I'm from the USA and learning about ring wiring which is different but I am understanding the reasoning for ring wiring. Most people think that the USA wiring is 115V but if you look at our system you will see it's actually 220-240V split in two so there are two 110-115 or 115-120V sides so we have a 220-240V system that has a left side and right side of 110-120Vs. I'm sure that can be a bit confusing to you folks who are used to all 220V systems. Interesting channel and thanks for your training on what should be done as averse to what get done by hacks. Life is always interesting.
Loving it Nick..... but the plumber in me can't unsee those two 15mm pipes with stop valves on them actually sticking inside the cable ducting. Please tell me they're unused and empty! And that outside wall with the waste pipes.......... As entertaining as all this is, you've gotta feel for the poor customer who's paying twice for what is still a shit job, albeit now with safe electrics...... Probably the very definition of "turd polishing".
Done a cracking job on this one Nick getting it a lot safer and compliant given the circumstances. Just started tuning into the Monday Club stuff on the advice of Mark Allison. Been in a bit of dialogue with him recently and he’s even asked if I fancy going on either Monday Club or Sparks Show and it’s definitely something that would interest me. I do a fair bit of domestic work but bring mostly street lighting content to my TH-cam channel as it’s something a bit different and not many sparks have ever seen or done it themselves. Would really appreciate you checking it out and the support would be massively appreciated as I’ve just hit 1000 subs and looking to push on.
I've got the strong suspicion that BS1362 fuses are so slow they're almost pointless in the days of MCBs. I know from Ireland that a fault would happily blow a 20-amp D fuse in the DB rather than the 13-amp BS1362 fuse in the plug or FCU. 3 amp usually blows first.
It’s amusing that in a recent video both iirc giggle at ‘Screwfix Sparky’ comment. Then around 9:30 of this video your off to Screwfix 😂😂. Handy place imo! Good work as always lad
I’m pretty sure they only went to screwfix to get some down lighters to match the existing ones, tbh I would have taken them all out and replaced with something suitable.
back in the day when fuses blew in spurs or plug tops people would wrap a blown fuse with a silver foil kit kat wrapper !! i BELEIEVE its rated at 20 amps!!😊
Draw through boxes are not intended for cable joints. An adaptable box would have been a better option. Not sure using trunking as a joint box is good practice?
If I were you, I would put a small piece of pipe with a stop end into those two pipes that are pointing directly into your trunking. I would not trust them not to leak past the ball valve and spray water over those connectors and down the trunking into the consumer unit.
Yeah I would not trust that either!! You can actually get nut end cap with rubber washer inside, used those when I removed water softener system and capped it for peace of mind.
You came up on my feed, loved this two part series and am a new subscriber. Being from the states, people sue anyone for anything. I was curious if the customer has any recourse against the builder who made the quagmire you had to fix.
Hiya great work ! Could you give your opinion on a new consumer unit replacement and find that the cables being short no movement up or down How you recommend how you get over this cheers
I remember thinking the same from the last video…I can’t seem to work out /understand the downlight arrangement by that I mean pattern/spacing it just looks odd. I mean it’s the least of this jobs problems but still 🤣
Wow how can someone get away with this abomination and call them self a builder there should be a prison sentence attached to this pile of shit thank god for men in capes to come and sort the not if but when the place catches fire great video even when you made the birds nest of wires safe it looked so neat like you said nick it must of took longer to Make a mess than to do it right first time goes to show experience cost money and time to gain that builder must of got his experience from a Xmas cracker 😀 look forward to the next video 👍
Once upon a time you had to have something about you to be a tradesman then came along computers and young lads left the construction industry only to be replaced by lads who are barely employable. This definitely applies to the majority of so called builders. I personally wont work for builders unless they work my way and do a conscientious good job. So it goes to say no builder will entertain me and I dont care.
LAP Crap never use it rip it out and bin in off, Screwfix need to re-think about the crap they sell...Why do you try and ram T&E down plastic conduit its a nightmare get the single cable in it.... whats Tom Nagy doing????
This is what I don’t get surely a builder messing with electrics is illegal as it is to mess with gas 🤔 if anyone messes with gas that’s not gas safe isn’t a prison sentence isn’t it 🤷♂️ surely same for electrics🤔
@@kingofthetrowel1725 If the works are Part P the owner can do one of three things. Notify the Local Authority ahead of the works and navigate their post work inspection sign off. Notify a 3rd Party certifier (currently only NAPIT offer this) and have the work retrospectively certified or engage a person/company who is a member of a competent persons scheme that can carry out the work and self certify. Unless the person of the work in the video is a member of such a scheme in which case ongoing registration should be called into question. I understand it is not illegal to carry out your own gas work. But it is illegal to carry our gas work and charge unless you are gas safe registered. So in theory a householder could install their own boiler themselves and it would be legal to do so. Whether the work is correct is another question. However, gas work is notifiable under Part L of building regs so a DIYer would need to notify the LA.
@@montystelevision3238 nice one mate thanks for the information, so baisicly if I wanted to do my own board change as a non registered electrician no electrical qualifications but some knowledge I could do. @@kingofthetrowel1725 yes that’s right. A board change is notifiable works. You could do it via LA or do the work and arrange the certification via a NAPIT 3rd party certifier. Nick, i want to scream at you, dont stick that iso in the bloody cupboard. guess what ya did. stuck it in the cupboard, how are you supposed to get it to it when the cupboard is full of shit and the ovens on fire? that said, that builder is lucky he didnt burn the place down. what a shitty wiring job
I'm glad somebody mentioned that. I would never fit an isolator inside a cupboard for exactly that reason. Oven is on fire and the isolator is inside the cupboard above the fire!

Great work mate, and your work in the Monday Club,
I found a 13amp fuse on a 6kw water boiler not blown. It had been like that for 3 years. It was very warm. Pulling 26 amp when i clamped it

Just subscribed. I'm a handyman, and I see some shocking electrical work. Great stuff, mate!
Those saddles :) Grad to see they were sorted!

Where did you get that kit from which helps you sort out the connectors ! Loving the content bro !
Can’t wait for Adam on the artisan channel you good boy
Is that the Velocity Bundy bag?
I spy a new velocity bag😉
Them LAP downlight fascias fit right back on with some force btw.

Ungawa, Adam !
I watch these videos to check I've never done anything like this. :)
That pressure vessel !! No support on pipework and fitted right in front of the boiler thus restricting access for servicing or maintenance 🤔
What kind of joints do you normally do in a domestic premises is it just if cables are too short etc?

With your time lapse vids gents, what setting do you use? As in how many seconds between shots?
Loving the Friday night dinner references!! Has Adam actually seen it?
Those LAP down lights aren’t fire rated, found that out at my own cost not long ago 🤣
You should leave a link to this video on the door of the C.U so the next builder that comes in will see how much hassle they cause.
4:06 I noticed the little jump in the edit, did the springs get your fingers? 😆😆😆
I'm pretty sure those LAP downlight are not fire rated either (Not sure if you have rooms above etc)
I was going to comment but seen yours first. Yes These are the contractors pack which aren’t fire rated
So nick calls m3.5, pins. That’s where Adam gets it from. Call um 3 5 s
Great Content guys and have got your new loadout bags 💼 ⚡️ 👊
Have you got habitable rooms above because those LAP downlights are non firerated as per Screwfix website!
Seen you in tesco in Nuneaton today next time you are in Nuneaton go to Frank parkers butchers for hot food you won't regret it
Great video guys 😎
do you prefer Ideal to Wago chap?
Nice nick👍🏻
Screw the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I can't wait for the UK TH-cam Electricians Universe to kick off.
Great work and thanks for sharing this with us take care
What brand cooker ISO’s do you use , they’re nice when they’re not red 😆
They look like Scolmore Click mode accessories... that’s Nick’s go-to brand 😁
Agree regarding the red switches, they stick out like a sore thumb!
The saddles triggered me too
Looks a lot rider now 👍👏👏
What's the new velocity bag the NB range......
You don't have to say Cowboy, you can just say Adam
Nearly 6 o'clock, wow ye work late, fair play

Leaving aside all the electrical snafus introduced by the builder - the whole extension, rear of the property (drainage pipes) is a complete shitshow.
I’m amazed that non-sparks are allowed to even touch the wires, a builder would be shot here for that work.
