    Scrubs shows you how to do a meta joke right.
    Love how they actually took something Neil Flynn was in and used it as a means of character development.

    It humanizes the Janitor's character. It makes us realize that he's a guy who really wanted to live a dream and that dream was just out of reach.

      Kinda ironic how the janitor was a struggling actor who settled to be a janitor while the actor who played him went to do big n better things after Scrubs w/ the tv show The Middle

      legit thought there was a scene afterwards where The Janitor wss basically like "you beleived what you wanted to" as a way of doing a triple joke on J.D. Maybe im remembering wrong here

    I love how they did this. We didn't get to see the janitor humanized very often. I think this was important to show, like JD says, that he was just a guy who didn't get to live out his dream and it helped explain why he was the way he was. We get to see a vulnerability in the janitor that we've never seen before. Damn Scrubs was such a great show

    "KImball! You tell anybody I'll kill you" I'm not quite sure why, but I find this to be a very poignant moment. A rare instance in which, all lies dropped, the Janitor let someone in on his past, on a "real" aspect of his life (and that someone was J.D. His archnemesis, of all people!).

    • @noamias4897
      @noamias4897 8 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      Marcel Mojžíš Personally, I believe the janitor doesn't hate JD, I mean if he really hated him the he'd always do stuff like break his bike which he did after JD made him mad. But he can be friendly from time to time and he just messes with him to make his own life less boring, in the same way JD's life gets less boring when he messes with him. It's kind of an unspoken friendship that none of them wants to admit even though they both kind of know it deep inside of them. If J.D or the janitor were kicked out for a night and one of them would desperately go to the other I think they'd both let the other in. Though it's kind of purely what you believe yourself as there is no real or official answer

    • @ecram1120
      @ecram1120 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      5 years later and you're STILL getting a reply! I love it. The Janitor, canonically, probably isn't Neil Flynn but the character of the Janitor knows JD needs to have some kind of hope or positive outlook on the situation. So he tosses him a vague bone. He doesn't necessarily confirm he was in the movie. But he teases pretty strongly that he is for JD's sake. Good writing. Great series.

    Fun fact, the original plan was the janitor was supposed to be a figment of JD's imagination(that's why for the first few episodes he only directly interacts with JD) but the writing/directing team quickly saw so much potential in the character they just made him part of the real world of the show. I love how most the time he still kind of has the vibe of an imaginary friend, makes scenes where he's being real(the end of this scene) feel so much more impactful.

    So how did the nurse at 2:10 not hear their conversation? He tells JD not to tell anybody while there is someone sitting next to him.

    Yes Neil Flynn (Spelling?) was in the Fugitive.

    If I were Dr. Dorian, I would never have made the connection, Flynn doesn't look the same as he does all those years later, their voices don't even sound the same. It is a fun piece of trivia though.

      I guess it's different when the guy is basically your co-worker. You just pick up the little things that you do when you interact with people in real life. I think it's fair to assume that JD would have noticed something familiar, and you'll notice he doesn't seem to recognize the Janitor right away until a few seconds in. It's plausible.

  • @jumpinjax2

    @Moredread25 That would make the most sense. After all, if he was in The Fugitive, he's Neil Flynn.
