    GREAT video. I would argue that OHS are harder on your leg muscles than back squats of the same weight:
    Having the bar overhead, held against falling backwards by the pecs-abs-illupsoas chain actually creates a very long lever around the hip axis. Therefore, the hamstrings and glutes need to pull much harder to extend the hips, and accordingly the quads pull harder to extend the knees.
    You can feel it by trying a weighted pistol squat and then an overhead-weighted pistol squat with the same weight.

    QUESTION: Any tips for achey wrist when snatching? I understand the narrowing of the grip during an overhead squat, however this isn't applicable when Snatching. Maybe some mobility tips or even grip alterations. Cheers!

    Question: my mother cannot externally rotate due to surgury, anything you could recommend to help get in the right position. I can't remember if there was a tech wod on that.

    Any tips on feet pivoting out when you go down? My feet stay pretty straight whenever I backsquat or front squat but whenever i try to OHS my feet instantly start turning out when I go down.

    How wide should you go with your arms holding the bar and should you go hip or shoulder width apart in the squat?

      Arms should be in your snatch grip, aka when standing upright the barbell should lie in your hip crease. Women tend to have a wider stance then men because your hips are wider, so a little more than hip width will probably work for you.

      Thanks! I was hoping I wasn't going too wide. Should I do this arm length for cleans too?

    • @navsquid32
      @navsquid32 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Savannah Smith No. For the clean, your grip should be such that your thumbs touch your thighs when standing with the barbell. In a clean, the movement ends with the bar in the front rack position. In the snatch, the barbell travels directly to the overhead position. That's why the grips are different.

    Doing overhead squats this morning made my thumbs and forearms go numb - any thoughts/suggestions? My coach/trainer didn't know anything. Maybe improper hand position? Also heard improper head/neck position might be it?

      +tikiman098, I'm not an expert but I think the muscle go numb as result of irregular blood flow through the veins, or temperature shock. It's possible that you stretched in a way that stopped proper blood flow - maybe bad form.

      i had the same problem. Narrow the grip, keep arms straight and externally rotated and dont let your wrist just bend back with the weight. I wide grip causes compression of the nerves like he mentions in the video

    I LOVE overhead squats! they are a very very effective and taxing drill...I love them. Just a word: nice video, but I don't like the position of his feet, spread outwards way too much and his heels aren't in a proper position IMHO...
