and extrapolating that onto Google Maps and Ordnance Survey maps.
I hope I’ve been respectful to private residences in the locations, without being intrusive. Less intrusive than Google Streetview!
i just finished watching the music video, then this popped up right after lol its heartwarming to see that the filming locatons still look pretty much the same...safety dance will always be one of my all time fave songs from the 80s...

Cool that you credit Louise Court. She was at one time editor for UK Cosmopolitan mag. A lot of people think she is saying "and sing!" but you correctly identify the French word for dance. Lovely video, great song, great memories. Where has time gone...

Saw Men Without Hats perform in Atlantic City New Jersey Last night. Part of an 1980’s music festival- they were great and so full of energy! Safety Dance was one of the highlights of the show! I love that song and that video. Thanks for this really cool location video! Really enjoyed it!

This was fantastic! The "Safety Dance" came out my junior year in high school and I remember all of us having a wild time dancing to it at our junior prom. Great to see the original location of what is by any standards a bizarre & unique video!

Hello From Central Kentucky. I remember “The Safety Dance” quite well and always enjoyed hearing the song and seeing the video back in the early days of MTV. The weird thing about seeing all of the dry masonry fences and countryside is that the landmarks could very easily have been filmed around the area where I live here in Kentucky which had its fair share of Scott’s-Irish people that settled this area even before Kentucky was a state. Sorry for any corrections to this Brilliant Video, as this Video is going to take us there this Summer 2024..BUT Louise Court doesnt Vocalise the words "I SAY". or "DONT SAY"... After the Lyrics Sung "WE CAN DANCE"....Louise says "OR SING" Ha ha ha

I can hear that! My received understanding was that she sings “dancé”, or however the correct conjugation of the French verb would be spelled. Spotify lyrics run with dancé… anyway - have a great trip.

The correct word is "Dancez!" it's French as the band were from a French speaking part of Canada. Louise Court mimes the word in the video but the woman vocalist was probably Anne Dussault who was credited on the album.

Excellent work my friend ,, from a fellow film location "spotter" lol. Im so glad your video popped up because i am heading down from Doncaster this week to pay homage myself to The Safety Dance location. With your help iv more or less got an idea where to aim for,, just a quick 1 tho,, that gate they dance infront of thats been replaced,, is that between the house with the post box and the farmyard cos i cant seem to locate it on street view . Is it obvious on the main road thru the village or on a spur road. Just that bit of extra help much appreciated. , as i want to get this right as its a 500 mile round trip from my house lol.
Ahh... I think iv figured it. The Google street view is an old image when the works were going on , so it still shows the old gate . And I'm assuming there is access thru that gate to get up the hill in the field to get a shot of the village from above ..?.. ill wing it when I'm there 😁👌
@@daniellancaster4419 access to the hillside is along the road Drifton Hill, not through the gate - see the OS Map - explore.osmaps.com/pin?lat=51.494119395447285&lon=-2.2761828895091036&zoom=14.9 - or on Bing Maps I think has an OS layer on the dropdown menu. The gate is just slightly offset the north side of the junction, near the bridgew

@TimPrevett .... I couldn't quite work out how to get up on that field overlooking the village but nevermind I got the other main locations and posted in a Facebook group "film locations then & now " 😁👌
The Memepunks made a pilgrimage there eight years ago to re-enact the video for a new mash-up! The video features most of the original locations and even some of the original extras, including the Morris side which is still active there.

It looks like it was a living and working landscape forty years ago, and now it's just abandoned or closed second homes. The area is overgrown with vegetation now.
Note the temporary/permanent Heras fencing on the way into the village: always a depressing sight around an old building. 😢
@@jamesbussey2911 I visited about 10 years ago and met a few locals, who were old enough to remember the filming of the video and happy to talk about it - they all appeared in the dance-around-the-maypole scene. It's the kind of village where the residents are very longstanding families and the homes stay in those families.
I am from Roma and my dream is to go there with my motorcycle.
