I've always loved this song...gave me so much hope when I was so young.... a nice house, beautiful wife - some kids ...a great job...money in the bank, investments and a retirement plan. Just a dream...such a wonderful dream.

Love this commercial. Brings tears to my eyes remembering those days. Starting out building your life together...

As a former Mad Man I admired Hal Riney. Hal understood human beings and their emotions. He understood what makes people tick. This can be seen in the Crocker Bank commercials as he showed how a bank could help a young couple in life's journey.

I remember these commercials! takes me back. Wish these were still around today. I am sick of seeing these ads for Jardience, Humira, etc. they are SICKENING!! they are annoying too.

Like the friendly helpful neighbors, people were really like that once before we all became so cynical and guarded. Like the way she catches the old man snooping and stops in the middle of her heavy lifting to smile and say hi in a kind way. This commercial really strikes home with me, maybe that's what it was meant to do but it also reminds me how much we have changed since those days, That sort of open graciousness died with the past.

You can tell this later version of the song for the commercial was recorded after the Carpenters released their single version, as it's heavily influenced by Richard's arrangement.

It's like a Norman Rockwell slice of life circa 1970.

@darrinbaker00 No, it's not them, but it's in the same style. Paul Williams sang the first two Crocker Bank commercials. I wonder if this was after the Carpenters' version came out (probably), so they tried to make it sound like them. It looks later, since the ending logo is different.

people could be real awful back then too. And people can also be very sincere and sweet today. Just a couple weeks ago I along with 2 of my neighbors all helped an older gentleman get unstuck in the middle of the road after a deep snowfall. It took 45 minutes, 2 snowblowers and a lot of patience but we got it. Of course thats in small town Iowa, it might be different if you live in New York City or LA...

The old man at 0.19 is thinking, 'Why is he not in 'Nam like my Grandson?' Ah, life was so much more innocent then.

The funny thing is that these ads brought in a bunch of younger customers to Crocker bank, who actually wanted older customers who had money so they stopped this ad campaign,

This nearly brings tears to my eyes. This commercial goes back to the days when people were better.there was less crime, neighbors were more neighborly, etc. I’m sick and tired of the way the people of the USA have become. No respect for anyone or anything. It’s not going to get better.

And in 2015, commercials have turned to rubbish, as has music, and nobody would think of towing a U-Haul trailer with a VW bug anymore.

I just love this commercial! I remember Crocker Bank. Better than these commercials we have today llike those sickening "prescription ads" like Linzess Entyvio, well y'all know what I mean. Those ads have gotta go! This commercial brings tears to my eyes. in a time where life was better and simple not like today , with coronavirus and everything else that is ruining our way of living today. The 2020's SUCK, PEOPLE!!
