During this video I did not fully explain what I meant by 'transparent layers' and opacity would have better use of words that I was suggesting. If a design is not 100% opaque such as a cloud, then this is what I was referring to as transparent that's not fully opaque. I apologize for any confusion and hope this video helped those beginning! 💕
So happy to have found your channel- Found you a few weeks ago through Brenon Dopp's "Best Advice" video. Great content and you have such an easy voice to listen to (not everyone does) :)
Your so inspirational. Things you have said, especially about failure. Thats where I am now. I have failed already multiple times. I honestly don't know where to go right now. Ive thought of branding, shopify, dropshipping all the above. But I really want to try print on demand. I am an RN and want to develop an online business to eventually get out of nursing. Just found you’re channel today, your videos are great! So many of the channels on TH-cam just talk about broad concepts, it’s so awesome that you go into the details like credit cards and business accounts. You definitely do a great job of painting a very realistic picture.
So many awesome tips and great advice here. I'm 2.5 months into my POD business. Part of the journey is watching videos like this one every day. I've learned so much from your channel and appreciate you sharing your knowledge.Thank you so much!
@@virginiavickeyrodriguez Yes! Give it time and keep pouring the work in daily. It sounds like you started at the deadest time of year when even established shops see a big dip in sales. I started in December with 2 sales. One was my Mom. So 2 sales in December. 4 in January (organic sales). This month I'm up to 7 sales and I'm seeing more views, visits and favorites in part because I'm doing Etsy Ads (just $1/day). My conversion rate is avg 2% over the past three months so I think that's a good sign. I see the progress. I've been following Heather's guidance, and I also like @shawnalynn2083 and @CassiyJohnson. welllll this video was very interesting...love how i get to hear the other side of things going scaled. I will have to take that into consideration. Printing for production: i assume that is not in relation to Printify and Printful?
I started in November and did fairly well in November and December. But things have really slowed down. I'm still getting a few sells here and there but it's no where near what I want to be. I'm definitely not giving up 😊

Yes, I’m curious to hear about the production fees and such. My shop isn’t open yet and I don’t want to run into surprises. Thank you for your videos!!! ❤
I love your videos but the audio is really bad in most of them. The volume is very low and the quality of sound makes it difficult to hear you sometimes. Having said that, thank you for all the useful information you give us. I am now watching your Etsy + Printify crash course and it's really good. Thanks!
Hey Cynthia, thank you for the feedback here! I did upgrade my mic and my last few videos are with the new mic so hopefully the audio is noticeably better!! Thanks for watching and supporting my content!❤
Ok, this question kind of has to do with this and another video I saw you post but I can't remember which video it was. I started doing a couple of personalized items so I don't get too overwhelmed because I still work and I have a 17 month old, my question is I created a listing without connecting it to Etsy so I could do it manually, then I saw one of your videos explaining how to connect it to printify and copy and change/ edit the order which made a lot more sense. Well, I got a customer that bought the one that wasn't connected to printify and Etsy taxes them and I get taxed on printify for a manual order, I think it was just this one that I got, but is there a way to connect the current listing without going through each individual sku? obviously it's time consuming, but just didn't know if there was a faster way to connect so I'm not getting double taxed on the order. Thank you for your content, you and Cassiy (not sure I spelled that right) are the reason I felt at least partially confident to open my own shop. There is so much I have learned already and I'm sure much more to learn as well. I am also currently having an issue with an order that I paid priority shipping on and I can't get in touch with anyone from printify or monster digital to tell me if it actually shipped. It just says a label was made and that UPS has not received the item, which makes me super nervous, because the items were already time sensitive. THANK YOU
Oh no! That is not what I meant and apologize for any confusion here! Transparent PNGs are what I use~to clarify I was just stating no transparency in layers (such as 70 to 80%) in your design uploaded to the print on demand provider. An example is a cloud PNG that has 30 to 60% transparency elements on the cloud- this will not correctly print with DTG printers. I hope this makes sense as I didn't do this point justice and will pin it to the top as an explanation here.
Great info as always! I think the word you’re looking for is opacity. Make sure that your layers have 100% opacity or they may not come out as well as you see it in your monitor. PNGs are great to use!
Hi Cassiy! If I make $10,000 in revenue in my Etsy business, what comes out of that and what do I have to pay from my personal bank account! Thank you for your help!
I received an email from printify regarding new price increases that are about to take place... Can you discuss or give a tutorial for the easiest way to update Etsy pricing when something like this happens? Thanks!
Yes definitely! There are bulk actions in Etsy that you can select all listings and increase by how many dollars you'd like~ but I will add this to suggested video list here!
Love watching your video's, so inspiring and helpful. Could you tell me over that first couple of months before you began to see actual income, approximately how much had you invested. I am trying to decide on a start up budget. thanks
I was wondering what you use for market research, to see how many views people are getting etc, also you mentioned everbee in one vid is that a market research tool
Great video!! What do you use other than transparent PNG? I’m nervous now because all my designs are PNG I think 😳 and do you mean transparent designs or transparent backgrounds?
I think she is talking about transparent part of you design, like the clouds that didn't show. If you have a part of your design that is a little bit transparent, but is part of the design, it's smart to give that part extra background (in Affinity etc). Png is the right kind go files.
@@bluebellbell3725 I think you’re right. I’ve used only PNG for a year and haven’t had any issues. But I could definitely see how having some transparent elements would confuse the printers

@@itsheatherstudio Thanks. If you get a chance, could you please do a video about this specific topic? I get what you're saying, but I'm a bit confused as to how it got partially transparent.
Have you ordered a sample and know how watercolor graphics print on shirts? I'm nervous to use watercolor style graphics or should I stick to simpler designs? Thank you for your help!
The cloud I printed in my sample was a 'watercolor cloud' so take that for what you will~ if there's any transparent elements(like a 30% transparency graphic) in a design I would order a sample or tread carefully as a word of caution. It looks amazing on monitor but not in print from my experience. Although, you can always do watercolor on mugs, tumblers or items that do not use DTG(direct to garment) printing like most sweatshirts, tshirts, totes and apparel. Most print on demand providers will state it on their website on their machines & printing methods and it's always good to know their methods for purpose of your design outcome on products. Most POD t-shirts/sweatshirts are DTG, hence the issue of printing transparency layers. Hopefully this helps! :)
No PNG? Transparent designs? I have been doing that since 2017 and sell on about 5 platforms. I also have ordered my own products and they seem fine. So I'm not sure what you are referring too? Please explain? Thanks.
I should have further explained~ I meant transparent properties such as a 70% watercolor transparent element in a cloud can print like the one shown in the video. Hopefully this makes sense! :)
If I have png's with transparent aspects, would turning the files into an SVG help this issue, or should I just go back and recreate the designs with no transparency? Great video!
Hi Heather, thank you SO much for your amazing videos, I learn a lot from you 🙂What is the name of your Etsy store? I would love to visit it and learn even more. Thank you🙏
Quick question--on the transparent image, did you accidentally alter the opacity? Or did the graphic itself have some areas that were more transparent (as opposed to being a lighter color)?
It depends on your scaling of your business, your comfortability as a business owner and where you are. When I began seeing over 50 orders a month, that was a good time for me to get a LLC. I was running as a sole proprietorship operating under a DBA until my shop picked up in sales and I could reinvest to file a LLC. In general, most legal professionals will recommend a LLC sooner though due to protection for your business versus personal assets(ex: if someone sues you they can go after personal assets). Disclaimer: I am not a legal or tax professional and this response is based on my personal experience. I advise to consult legal help in addition to any comment or concern relating to legal or tax advice.
Obviously haven't started yet but I'm really confused. I was under the impression that with Printify you don't need credit to use their services, so what exactly is this part you were talking about with scaling up?
