The blonde is married to EJ Cardona, who sings full time with Voctave. He's done at least two videos with VoicePlay: Go the Distance, and I Can't Make You Love Me. EJ is brother of Omar Cardona, frequent collaborator with VP, like Dream On and Dragonborn Comes.
Geoff's necklace is made of (to look like) kukui nuts, Hawaii's state nut. Very multi-purpose. One early use was to drill a hole, insert wick, and would provide roughly an hour of light.
I love that 40's/50's sound from the American Sirens. By the way, the blonde is married to EJ Cardona. The vamp (beginning musical run) is used for Mr Sandman, but has been used in several other things, none of which I can remember now. And Voiceplay did a mini/short of Mr Sandman with Deejay Young. You don't have to go far to listen to it.
Yup. Also, Alejandra and Rachel are both in PattyCake's "Villains Lair" series, playing Maleficent and Vanessa (human Ursula). The Orlando theme park gang are a tight knit group. :)
you see Rachel in VoicePlay's Little Mermaid Medley - she and her husband are the holographic couple in "Poor Unfortunate Souls". you see Alejandra in VoicePlay's "Once Upon A Dream" as Maleficent.
Great pronunciation! This was originally sung by Bing Crosby and maybe The Andrews Sisters? I don't remember the ladies that sang with Bing. I grew up listening to Bing Crosby and Perry Como, and I still like them.
Hawaii became a state in 1959. They definitely are in Orlando and have a group with instruments and are hired for their singing (EJ Cardona is the husband of the blonde if memory serves. One of the others(maybe the tallest and longest hair) is in the VoicePlay Halloween with Once Upon an Ever After.). Geoff was looking at the postcard from Hawaii and he was the only one holding down the fort. No vacation for him. Then the American Sirens came out from the radio. I saw a comment that VP will be dropping another tomorrow at noon!
Can you imagine the security guard watching this footage and seeing Geoff prance around the office with no one else there? Ha Ha! Love this so much. Lived in Hawaii for a while and we listened to this song a lot. Brings back great memories.
I was going to say that I lived there in the ‘60s and this song got heavy radio play in December. Of course, Bing Crosby had recorded it years earlier than that and it was the version getting that air play.
What I like and enjoy most about this song by Geoff is that he doesn't sit at his bass notes for very long. They turn into his natural Baritone so smoothly and so easily and it just feels like a really natural part of his singing voice... Thank you for this reaction DJ! Great job again. Your pronunciation was good too, even before you heard Geoff say it. The song was actually in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation which you watched last year on the Herdmas Party Livestream...but it was background music so I'm sure not very memorable! LOL
"Mele Kalikimaka" was written in 1949 for Bing Crosby, one of the smoothest crooners to have ever lived... until Geoff showed up! 😄 Bing Crosby recorded it with the Andrew Sisters, so a collab with the American Sirens, who mimic the style of the Andrew Sisters, is perfect. The Andrew Sisters were a trio who sang many WWII songs like "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy from Company B." They were extremely popular with American soldiers. Fun trivia (I know this because my brother lived in Hawaii for many years and learned the native language)... the Hawaiian language is super simplified with their consonants. It doesn't have an "R" or "S" for example, so when they must use English words (AKA "loanwords") an "R" is usually replaced with an "L" and "S" is replaced with a "K." After every consonant there must be a vowel, making the language very musical. Mele = Merry Kaliki = Christ Maka =Mas
Lovely reaction! Geoff's only video with other singers. I love this song, the first version I heard was the Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters' version. It's worth a listen. Davy Jones from The Monkees does a version too. But this is my favorite version. No real surprise there. The necklace Geoff is wearing is traditional Kukui nuts, which in Hawaii symbolize good luck, peace, enlightenment and protection. ❤💚
Yes, that was the beginning of Mr. Sandman. The American Sirens do a lot of music from that era (And yes they have choreo.) You NEED to see the short that VoicePlay did of the song with DeeJay (the other one 😉) ? It is interesting to say the least. If you think of it, put your camera on. I’d love to see your reaction to it. And it’s not like Once upon a Dream- it won’t jump out at you! I am old enough that I grew up listening to Bing Crosby‘s White Christmas album which contained this song. He sang it with the Andrew sisters. This has a lot of the feelings of the original although of course Geoff gave us his own spin. I’ve always been a sucker for the harmonies of the war years and this is no exception. I looked up the origin of the song and it was written in 1949. It was in response to a remark by a stenographer to the songwriter that there were no Hawaiian Christmas songs. But the phrase itself did appear as early as 1909 in the islands. The American Sirens who appear here have pretty close ties to the VoicePlay/PattyCake Productions family!! (I think one of my favorites of theirs was when they were doing a lot of flapper era songs.) Lindsay, the blonde, is married to EJ Cardona and is sister-in-law to Omar. Alejandra on the left plays Maleficent in the Villains Lair series done by PattyCake Productions. And Rachel Copeland Evans in the center it has appeared as Vanessa, the alter-ego of Ursula the sea witch, in the series as well as one of their unexpected musicals, Grande Mermaid. That is part of of the story of Ariel set to Ariana Grande songs. In addition to those, she plays Ariel in their Evolution of Ariel production singing Fish out of Water. I believe she is Ariel as portrayed in the series Once Upon a Time. And if that wasn’t enough, she is married to E. Michael Evans who plays Gaston in the Villains Lair series as well! That area is just overflowing with talent!! (Don’t blame me for this ridiculously long post, but you did ask for information!)
You said it very well for someone who had never heard it before. I loved this so much because it reminded me of Hawaii's Don Ho singing Christmas songs, including this one.
When I was younger, my dad would always pull out the champagne glasses on New Years Eve and us kids would get ginger ale. And then he would put on the recording of Tiny Bubbles. We felt very grown up! 🥂
This is a fun one, it brought back a lot of souvenirs. When I was young in the 60's there was a lot of songs and movies with Hawaiian influences, Elvis Presley I think did 3 and Tiki Bars were everywhere.
I don't know the origin, but I do remember hearing it every Christmas on an album from Arthur Godfrey (there is not enough room here to explain who he was) in the 1950s. The American Sirens are very reminiscent of the Andrews Sisters from the 40s. I haven't seen a lot of their stuff, but I think they do the 1940s thing often. I love this song. When I was a kid I was so proud that I could say Merry Christmas in Hawaiian. Ha!
The blonde singer (I’m sorry I’m having a moment I can’t remember her name) is married to EJ Cardona (Omar’s SIL) and the Brunette Rachel Copeland features a lot in Pattycake Production videos (off the top of my head “the Will.of.oz”)
Love the reaction and it is a modern take of a classic christmas song, in my opinion i like the bing crosby version ( th-cam.com/video/hEvGKUXW0iI/w-d-xo.html ) more.

Mele Kalikimaka was written by Hawaii composer, Robert Alexander Anderson in 1949.

Yes, the Andrew Sisters 🎶
I lover Peery Como. Always had to watch his Christmas special.
Yeah, this is pretty much a copy/tribute of the Crosby/Andrews version.
@@kmwwrench Me, too! I do have to admit, though, that Bob Hope's Christmas Special was my favorite.
fun fact: in the "Mr. Sandman" part (which is there because he's supposed to be having a dream) the first "bum" in the sequence is sung by Geoff.

And the shorter brunette is in PattyCake Productions’ “Villains’ Lair”
@@hwyla4416 I didn't realize that! Thanks.
American Sirens the modern-day Andrew Sisters. I grew up listening to the Andrew Sisters and they were awesome.
yes, traditional song from Hawaii.
The song was in Christmas vacation if you’ve ever seen it love that movie

Geoff would be the best coworker. I would claim desk next to him and he could be my "work husband". 😂 No such think as a bad Monday when he's around.

Love the reaction. I will now have this song stuck in my head for two weeks, not that it's a bad thing but whenever I hear it, it sticks.
It was in the movie , ''National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation'' with Chevy Chase
Wonderful version 🎶
(though it's hard not to have Chevy Chase in mind hearing this song 😆) 🎄
Thanks for your reaction. Great song by Geoff as always

Jimmy Buffet did a great version of this song. And one of the girls in the Sirens played Malificent in VPs version of Once Upon A Dream
If I remember right Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters sang it in 1950
