It perfectly showcases Mike the same way it does John Marston a selfless man who isn't exactly a hero or a good guy and goes to every length possible to provide for/save his family and dies at the end because of it by the guy he hated the most and had to work with.
Mike is a terrible person. You measure him in not how good he is. But in what evil he isn't - Out of all the terrible things he could have done, what did he not do.
@@rear9259 While the other guy's comment is naive in it's portrayal of both Marston and Mike, your own method for measuring a 'good person' isn't valid either. Both Marston and Mike started out as bad people. It's how they dealt with that, how they grew as people and CHOSE to do better in what ways they could within the situations they were stuck in, that make them better people. Lawful does not equate to good. What matters is both the intention behind the act, and whether the person committing the act is honest about what it is. Both Marston and Mike are killers. Hired guns. But they make their own decisions in the moment, aiming for better outcomes, instead of just pulling the trigger and walking away. They take responsibility, where a bad person would simply refuse it.
I think Mike and John are different characters. Yep, they both had a criminal story, but overall they're different characters. Mike was the man that started as a good person, a cop, but due to his hardships went into the criminal business. He was good at heart and a very smart guy, but he died simply because he made a crime his own profession. He never was proud of his "job", but he neither was very reflective on it as well. In my opinion by his time in BrBa he made peace with his crime life. In my opinion Mike's story is how bad things can led a good man down to a terrible path. John, on the other hand, started as a criminal. He was raised by a gang leader, and although he was like a father to him, he left him to die when John needed him the most. This and lots of gang problems and being hunted down by the government made them split up. After that John tried to turn good, built his ranch, a house, tried to be a father and etc. But then he is found by the government, they use him to kill his ex-gang members to make "amends" and then kill him. John's story is about paying for the bad things you've done, about how past can catch up to a human being. This is a major factorin RDR series. "People don't forget, nothing is forgiven", just as John said. Or "You don't get to live a bad life and expect good think to happen to you" by Arthur.
Probably the character I loved the most in both shows, just has so much backstory and secrets... A loyal man, always caring for his close ones and always fighting, until the end. You showed all of that beautifully in this great edit, loved it Heather! :)
While this song perfectly encapsulates John Marston, it does it so well with Mike’s life too. Loved the editing at the 2 minute mark with Mike readying the gun in sync with the music. You never disappoint, Heather!
Poignant tribute to Mike. Mike was a man's man. He lived with regrets and made hard choices for the sake of his family. No one but Jonathan Banks could ever portray him. I am thankful to Vince Gilligan for giving us more of Mike after Breaking Bad. I look forward to your future BCS videos.
Thank you! I completely agree with you. There were scenes of his in BCS that made me tear up watching, knowing how his story ends. It’s so heartbreaking. I really loved his last scene in the BCS series finale, too.
Mike is an amazing character, He is pure, honest and loyal. You would trust him with your life. Really makes you realise how much Damage Walt did even though I love Walt as well. Well Written Characters
Dead man's gun is perfect to represent Mike. Knowing Mike, he fought hard even if he knew he was doing bad things. I know this song is based solely on the lore from Red Dead Redemption, I just think the lyrics match Mike's character pretty well. Mike had his son die doing something he could never do himself, and immediately after wants to get revenge. He was a pretty bold dude who didn't care about near death experiences, I'm sure even by the time he did die he didn't even really care to think about it.
The song to me more represents fighting back after suffering long enough and how the tragedy made you stronger so that nothing will stop you from facing the "storms you've been chasing" and hence why the song fits both John and Jack. Even though, I'd lean more towards the latter because the title "deadman's gun" and how it plays right after Jack's first and only mission.
@@themadtitan7603 I like how you put it. I guess how I view it as is the simple fact you're a dead man once you make certain choices. The song does represent those characters in where they came from perfectly because it was to give closure to the story of Red Dead Redemption properly, and I do agree with that being true without a doubt. I just think the song itself could represent anyone though in a similar situation. People make certain choices based on their own morality, and once you make those choices it's just like Mike said, "We all make our own choices. And those choices, they put us on a road. Sometimes they seem small, but they put you on the road. You think about getting off. But eventually, you're back on it." I just like how in general the song itself can be viewed at many different angles, and I just think the lyrics do rhyme with who Mike Ehrmantraut was as a character in both Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad. He was a person who didn't want to do what he did, he just was getting old and couldn't get off the path he already was on and felt that he wanted to do something good for his grand daughter. Considering she was basically the only thing he had left of his son and felt guilty about his own actions he chose in his life.
@@pengusupreme2392 I agree that Deadman's Gun can be viewed from different angles to fit the arcs of different characters and I wasn't trying to dissuade from that or argue differently. I was simply offering my interpretation, particularly from a Red Dead Redemption context to argue how I think the song particularly represents Jack's story in that series but yes, of course it could fit other characters from other media as well.
@@themadtitan7603 Don't worry, your interpretation is welcome. I was just offering what I thought in return to what you said to add to it more. I played Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 so I know what you're talking about, it's my favorite game series by far. I think it's sad how Jack essentially just was in the middle of all the chaos, and he was someone who wanted desperately to avenge his father. Makes me wish there was more story to Jack's side of the whole thing after his encounter with agent Edgar Ross, but hey, you can't deny it's a great conclusion to the first game's story. The part I remember from that series is John Marston's exit from the barn, because it looked like he wanted to sacrifice himself for his own family. I believe it's a very relatable and well-crafted story altogether, plus the games are still pretty fun to play.
In this Gilliverse…Mike was probably my favourite character if I had to choose just one. Honestly Jonathan Banks God bless you, you made Mike one of the coolest and most complex characters in film/tv.

I'm really hyped to see more edits on BCS from you Heather. Because so far, you're edits have been amazing.
Congrats my friend!
Thank you so much, Max! This is such an amazing comment to receive. I’m really happy you enjoyed this video and hearing your thoughts about it is always a pleasure to read. ❤️
Mike will always be one of my favorite characters! I’m just so glad we got so much backstory of him in BCS that just made us love his character even more. Really going to miss these characters and universe so very much.
Oh my god!! Absolutely f*cking AMAZING!! Mike has got to be one of my fav characters on television. Only real men cry when Jonathan Banks cries. Thanks for this Heather you did an absolutely amazing job. You so so unbelievably talented.
Thank you so much, Matthew!! So happy you liked this. I'm always proud to get the donatedpizza seal of approval, haha. :)
Amazing tribute as always. Such a darkly beautiful song for a great character. I'll miss him and the shows a lot. Can't wait for another re-watch one day. Before or after that though I'll be very much looking forward to any videos you release. It always makes my day watching one and I typically return to them several times over, at least. Thank you!
Wow, thank you so much! I’m really flattered to hear you look forward to my videos. And, I’m so glad you really enjoyed this one, too. :) It means a lot!
If Mike had met to Arthur Morgan he would been proud of him
Wow. Incredible video. Love the song choice and editing. Keep up the great work. 👍
this is the moment breaking bad became red dead redemption
OMG! I swear bro, I'll watch every single piece of those 73 videos in the playlist! WHY I only noticed it now?!
I love you man thanks for this masterpiece
Absolute BANGER, great job once again ❤️ My favorite part has to be the first few seconds showing how Mike is at peace with the path he is on and the choices he made as opposed to Jimmy. Never really noticed that
Thank you!! I’m very glad you enjoyed it :) ❤️
After watching BCS, I hate Walter even more for what he did to Mike.
