Today marks one year since actor Mark Margolis passed away - August 3, 2023. We will remember him for his immortal role as Hector Salamanca.
How did this gentleman pass away?
@@Groovey-kj6eu google just says a short illness
La familia es todo
Salamanca, sure. But it was Nappa that got me hooked on Margolis.
you ever seen Scarface? He will be remembered as Alberto

"I wanted to be a doctor, but I compromised, I became an actor instead. See where I'm goin'?"
The fact Mark is nothing like Hector in real life shows what a superb actor he was. So glad he lived long enough to finish both series, and give us a memorable villain to enjoy for generations to come. Wish he was still around.
That's exactly what I was thinking watching this. These two are amazing actors. I had no idea Mark did not have an accent. I remember his face from when I was younger. I just didn't remember much else.
This seems like a *general* pattern among actors, i.e the best villains/"bad guys" are wonderful people in real life. Granted of course there are always exceptions
and he played many other great roles, one of my favourites was antonio nappa in oz
Same with Raymond Cruz (Tuco)
❤
1 year since Mark left us, rest in peace GOAT, time really flies...
Add different respect Mark all the way back from when I first discovered him in 1983 "Scarface"... But you kids got to stop over-using the word "GOAT" for EVERYTHING. And let me remind you what it means. I'm being very condescending here but I feel I need to be... GREATEST OF ALL TIME! Mark was a great actor but he was nowhere near the GOAT. And I don't make this comment for any disrespect towards him, cuz I'm a huge fan of his, but at the end of the day you kids have to start learning other adjectives to describe things. Not every single thing on earth is a "goat" or "underrated." Read the dictionary open the thesaurus. Expand your vocabulary so you can start using the words and saying things within context!
@@wadewilson8011 Hey man, no need to be so bitter. Do you really think I don't know what GOAT means? Mark was my GOAT, and he still is. He was my favorite actor, and I first got to know him through Breaking Bad. After that, I made sure to watch almost all of his work. I’m not sure where you got the idea that I’m a kid, but this was my personal tribute to an actor who meant a lot to me. And instead of letting that be, you drop this completely unnecessary comment. It’s not about using GOAT for everything, it’s about what he represented to me, let people express their respect in their own way without feeling the need to correct them, especially when it comes from a genuine place.
@@wadewilson8011who the hell are you to say who isn’t the greatest of all time? Everyone has their own opinion, old man. He may not be to you, but to somebody else he was

I just love that these two intimidating men are actually total sweethearts, Jonathan especially. You can really feel his passion when he speaks. What a treat this was.
And the emotions
IKR it's so strange seeing them as normal people, and not the criminals they portrayed. It's easier to see Jonathan as normal though, I've seen him in other things. But as the only role I can recall seeing Mark in was Hector, it's just strange. I keep expecting him to ring a bell.
I've always said that about both these guys, how magnificent were they at their crafts, they both gave me shivers watching them, but love that they are such loving men..!

I would totally imagine that this is the type of conversation these gentlemen would have when we see their characters talking at the diner.
Then you understood nothing about their characters.
Fr lol I was just thinking about that.
This is like an alt universe episode where they were both supported in poverty and weren’t pressured into a life of being a provider.
The thing they keep stressing throughout this whole interview is basically “let people help. Let urself suck. Try to do something cool and enjoy being poor.”
It’s like exactly what both of these characters from the show probably regret the most; they did evil things to provide for their family. When it is sometimes possible to just admit to people that you do need help.
It’s Walt’s story too.
@@perseus9428 it’s rude to be so dismissive about someone’s opinion without offering a counterpoint. You pretty much just typed “ur stupid.” It’s a really pathetic way to act when ur not face to face lol

To hearJonathan Banks & Mark Margolis apeaking like this is just brilliant. These men are fantastic actors and I love that they are honest about their craft. Well done guys, you are admirable as human beings and actors. Australia
2 Absolute Legends. Rip Mark.
Such a pleasure to listen to two REAL actors reminisce and share their influences, their hardships and their wisdom from another era. What an honour to have these old masters bleeding their talent into our era for us to drink from their stories, to know that they also struggled for their art just like some of us. It truly inspires, especially knowing their work and the talent they have.
Very well said.!
The minute Jonathan says “Fuck them” I’m gripped 😂
Banks quite represented all of us
Two great inspirational men. Thankyou for this. They are true real honest human beings. RESPECT to you guys.
I could listen to these two converse all day.
Banks looks and sounds like a badass, and he plays a convincing badass on screen, but in almost every interview I've seen him in, he's talking himself into tears. Really emotional guy.
I always remember Mark as Alberto The Shadow from Scarface. He owned that part so well, that I was relieved to know that he had a kinder gentler side to his personality.
That's the mark of a great actor, making you a believer in the character.
How about Oz ?
Omg....so frightening leader of the Italians !!!
I had not realized Hector had passed. RIP. Iconic character in BB/BCS.
I'm glad these two had these conversations. Great actors and good men, Jonathan Banks's never give up attitude was powerful!
Wow. I have mad new respect for these guys. The characters that they played on Breaking Bad were absolutely incredible. I can’t imagine anyone else playing those roles. But. to these two men, Breaking Bad is just one job/experience that they have in their pockets. These men are actual thespians. I’m a musician, so this shouldn’t surprise me, but I’m incredibly moved by this interaction. Artists have no choice but to be artists. We don’t choose this endeavor, yet we’ll suffer through it for our whole life. It’s literally not a choice that we make, it’s not even a calling…it’s an obligation, or a sort of predetermined destiny. These two men have taken their destiny to the apex. Again, mad respect…
Their characters in BCS were much more in-depth and rounded.
They are the true stars of the BB/ BCS universe.
Mike and Hector having a casual pleasant conversation! What a treat!
Rest in Peace Mark.
Rest in peace, Mark. Great video.
Thanks for this particular upload. Two absolute legends talking bout good old times. Hits hard when you realize that Mark is sadly no longer with us. But their art will live forever!
Since the first sentences they both said you knew this would be a brilliant conversation of two very wise man (great actors too, accidentally). Completely unpretentious, unsophisticated at the surface, and yet - full of so many smart and true observations about the world and life. I'm so happy I came across this clip (and the channel too).
Well said
Rest in Peace Mark Margolis.
You made it real each time! Awesome!
Thanks for the upload -
RIP Mark Margolis.
FYI, he has a small part in an under the radar movie "Dinner Rush", staring Danny Aiello.
Slow burn film, not for everyone - but if you've lived or worked in NYC, you'll enjoy it.
Danny's a bookie in NYC, trying to retire
- the entire movie takes place in his Manhattan restaurant.
Awesome twist to end the movie :)
Love seeing these conversations between legends. Their passion is almost contagious and makes me feel the pull of a path in to an acting career
Thank you Vince for choosing such an awesome array of people to work with you on your works of art, and thank you for these extra behind the scenes analysis videos and conversations ❤
Mark sounds nothing like Hector.
What a great actor.
He also isnt a Piece of shit like him either 😂 Rip Margolis
Here before the snarky "well he is an actor, its kinda his job" comment

Listening to these two legends converse is very fulfiling. It feels like therapy. It's great.
this, this right here is fantastic. just two guys talking and sharing. this is how we learn to be better humans
What you are saying is absolutely true. For more than a year now, I have been struggling to find the right advice to give my my youngest son, who is a very good - but not great - classical pianist. If I tell him to think in practical terms, like his extremely successful brothers in the business world, he will make a ton of money and have no financial concerns. If I tell him to follow his joy, he will probably just scrape by as an accompanist, piano teacher, piano tuner, maybe a church musician. But after listening to these gentlemen, I know what I have to say to him. This conversation has truly been a revelation to me...
@@timothywilliams1359I know its personal, but in the end what advice did you give him?
@ He wants to pursue a degree in collaborative piano, and I'm going to give him the money to do it. I've told him to just do what gives him joy, because that way, he will share joy with others around him.
RIP Mr. Margolis such a great actor. Loved his appearances on old school Law & Order episodes too.
Stardom is like winning lotto: anyone who can make a living from their art or craft has to be incredibly talented. These 2 actors are amazing and inspiring....
"Omar Suarez. This scum was recognized by my associate at lunch." Mark played one of the all time great "associates" in Scarface.
Thanks for posting this. It's such a privilege to listen to these great actors speak with complete honesty.

These two are SO utterly iconic in their Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul roles....its utterly jarring seeing them sit down and just have a casual normal conversation. Such great talent, such great actors...
Feels so wierd hearing Hector as a nice person. Love the respect between these to legends!
These two guys are so good at their profession, their timing, their dialogue speaking is just perfect, every movement, every expression. Thank you gentlemen for sharing your talent with us, you two fascinate me, many times I run the scene a couple of times just to see you deliver a simple line but you do such a wonderful job at it that it's worth watching it again.
Masters of their craft!! What an interesting conversation between two amazing actors.
I love the characters they play, but I also love these actors these professionals talk about their background and their craft. Just wonderful.

I stumbled across this. I am drawn to actors who played adversaries discussing their craft. Showing interest in each other's work and respect for one another. I enjoy this!! But I still have difficulty getting my head around Hector Salamanca chatting with Mike Ehrmantraut.

Jonathan Banks is 100% correct - The Arts ARE for EVERYONE!!
So many artists, be they painters, actors, musicians, can be so pretentious and condescending to people they deem lesser.

Mark Margolis was one of those actors that when you saw him on the screen you smiled because you've seen him in a bunch of other things and he always gave a great performance. He's also a law& order alum. He was in the original series a few times.
I had the honor of working with Mr. Margolis in Balm In Gilead at Circle Rep (NY) in 1984. He played the manager/waiter in the cafe where the play is set. His performance was so focused and present he was scary. He was fun to work with and watch.
Bruh banks still looks in character 😭😂
Mark as Hector Salamanca was just fantastic . Rip .
Banks must have such an easy time acting. He literally just plays himself. Usually you see characters act completely different off set, but hes genuinely the same badass regardless what hes doing.
As I get older I have gained such an appreciation for these incredible character actors and everything they bring to the table. These two gentlemen are great examples of two guys that make anything they were in that much better. Mark Margolis was a guy that had so much presence in any role I ever saw him in. You couldn’t help but be drawn to him. I have seen Jonathan Banks in less over the years but he is also a total pro. I get excited whenever I see him in something.
