Nice page. Seems like yesterday that I graduated from Cal. Grade deflation is real thing especially at Cal. Pretty sure for my year, my major’s (Nutritional Science M&P) average GPA was ~3.3 or something absurd like that. Rest assured, med schools will respect Cal’s name. That being said, if I can go back, I’d never pick Cal for premed. NEVER lol. But yeah, currently in med school.
As a pre med, did you rearrange your schedule (to lighten the course load) and take classes over the summer? Or do you know if rearranging courses helped others who did it?
I have taken classes over the summer both after freshman and sophomore year! I did it moreso because I was actually considering switching to Bioengineering for a while and needed to catch up on the pre-reqs, but many of my friends also did it to lighten their loads. I think it's a great idea, especially for tougher courses that you want to be able to 100% focus on.
As an incoming freshman I have seen that some people have started to enroll in classes but technically we haven’t met our advisors and take the Golden bear advising so idk how they already enroll
I think you might be seeing the continuing students enrolling-we start enrollment in April and freshmen usually begin around July! You’ll learn more about enrollment during GBA and they’ll break down the freshman enrollment process then.
Yes! It might be harder if some labs want you to have taken some of the biology courses but its not impossible. It’ll probably depend a lot on the lab and what they’re looking for though!

Hahaha omg my story about grade deflation at Berkeley was in a class, where I had a 92% and that was a B+ ☠️ Love that GPA decrease 😓
Omg that's crazy! It's honestly wild to me how significant it is for some classes 😭

Can you do biology research if you are not going to pursue a biology major but you are really interested in biology-related labs?
Yes! It might be harder if some labs want you to have taken some of the biology courses but its not impossible. It’ll probably depend a lot on the lab and what they’re looking for though!
Hi, is it a problem if I don’t drive studying in Berkeley?
Definitely not! The campus and city are full of hills so the majority of students walk everywhere or take the bus.
