    I gotta admit, seeing those auto UV's made me empathize with you more than I was expecting. Great vid, clean workflow, love it.

    I'm really enjoying your videos! You give so much info that I really wish I knew years ago! I gave up hard surface modelling because I just couldn't get it to work - now, I'm off to practice some modelling! Thank you!

    coming from blender to maya is hard man

    Thank you for that. Maya is hard sometimes . . . . . We have much modeling going on within reality.

    good vid but i'd strongly strongly suggest duplicating the base mesh and using it as a shrink wrap target or live snap surface, just to make sure your verts don't drift too far from the original form.

      luckily Full Sail has changed since then. I'm only halfway through my degree and this is all very basic stuff we learn in the beginning months.

    I’ve always modeled in softimage xsi. Im super quick in that program and haven’t made the jump to maya yet but maybe I’ll start looking at these videos and they should help me with the shortcuts.

    • @jlmussi
      @jlmussi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Modeled in xsi for years, but ended up back in Maya after autodesk dropped it. Most of my shortcuts are custom.

    Great video. At the beginning you created a low poly version of the cylinder but didn’t end up doing anything with it. What did you anticipate to use it for?

    After you did the first bevel, you added vertical edgloops to the cylindar. How do these new, closer together, edgeloops not affect the curvature (creasing or flattening out is what happens to me? FYI< JL your videos are top notch. I wish I had discovered you a few years back! I'd be much better now than I am!

  • @blckdevil

    Incredible video as always! Would it be a bad idea to create all the greeble and details on a plane and then add the deformer to make it cylindrical?

    So i have just one question. Why did you subdivide to level1?? To prevent from uv stretched at uv border?? Hope u could give me an answer for this. Thx 4 posting vid

    • @jlmussi
      @jlmussi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you mean towards the end when I applied a smooth, it was to get a smooth shape as this was built for subds

    • @dlehgus0909
      @dlehgus0909 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jlmussi thank u so much for your comment. But this gives me one more question. When i do modeling. After cutting UVs, hit 3 key(smooth preview) i get UV border stretched. Is adding more edges only solution?? Sorry for long questions.

    How to get reference for hard surface modeling.

    • @jlmussi

      Google or ask an artist for permission to use their artwork.

    When i saw a topology like the first, i start to feel bad xd, that's a sign the topology isn't good hah

  • @strandedpirate6346

    You're mispronouncing asymmetrical and then referring to shapes that are symmetrical.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
