    I really like the mix of the different animations, rather than overcommitting to a single one. It comes together quite nicely that way, and it fits the piece.

    I love the fact that every single animation you make has an original animational motiv such as this snail like line. Benn waiting a long time for the Turkish March!! Thank you for this!

    • @smalin
      @smalin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, there are many more animations than there are techniques. There are more than five hundred videos on this channel, but fewer than one hundred techniques (see www.musanim.com/renderers/ for a list).

    • @nellonjk8016
      @nellonjk8016 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      smalin Yes, of course, but that doesn't deny the originality of your ideas.

    • @smalin
      @smalin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not saying I'm not original (though, for any of my ideas, I could tell you where they came from, so "original" is a relative term), I'm just saying I'm not creating new animation techniques for every video.

    • @nellonjk8016
      @nellonjk8016 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      smalin Well I guess you're right. Can I just ask you what made you choose the snail like line for the Turkish March?

    • @smalin
      @smalin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me, one of the "seeds" from which the Turkish March grew was the "turn" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ornament_(music)#Turn ). This reminded me of the "Coil" renderer (which I originally developed for Björk's "Black Lake" and subsequently used for this Bach fugue th-cam.com/video/k2d-s8U1tfM/w-d-xo.html ), so I used it for that. Later, I decided to expand its application to other fast-moving motifs in the piece.

      In any case this piece in particular has an enormous "rachrochement" (pardon pour le French) between the images and the music. This can only be achieved after great experience both with the possibilities of visual representation and the expressiveness of the music. After several years of this experience maybe some things are done quickly and other take longer. That depends on how the piece fits in with the authors experience and projects.

      If you read all the comments, you'll see that some people like what I'm doing. And that's the situation for every video: some people think it's the best and others think some other approach is better. So even if I wanted to accommodate viewer preferences, I'd still have to decide which viewers to pay attention to. It's simpler to just use my own judgment and ignore everybody equally.

    • @pianoplayer1262

      You made the screen go by very fast as you probably intended. It does capture the vitality. However I think you could slow it down a little or widen the zoom without losing the vitality. The notes that happen in the recent past are very important in this piece, I think, with all the little echoes. So I am hearing phrases repeated or finishing up a little too late to see them disappearing off the side of the screen. This is what makes it tiring. All in all good video.
      Update: I just saw the alternate version. It was eyeopening because I was no longer lost. I think the barlines and extra information made me chunk the information into measures and remember it better. Or, maybe I had tunnel vision due to my disorientation (I read music). I am leaning toward the former but who knows.

      smalin For me, it's a truly gratifying experience to see you try new things and enhance the way we listen and visualize music. It gives spirit and life into pieces that already had such a great amount of expression. Your visual interpretations are proving to become more like the piece itself and really exploring the true nature of the work. It's almost as though the visualization is a logical extension of the music that the composer intended. I'm not sure how to describe it.
