I'm a cat-eye cage guy myself. I have a Bauer 951 and CCM 9000. Both with white cat-eyes and both air-brushed by yours truly. The RVH is my post save selection when I need to get to the post after already being on the ice. I don't ever really use it as a starting save selection. I usually just use the regular VH if an attacker is coming in down the wing at the goal line. The only time I use it from standing is when the attacker is going for a wrap-around.
As an older goalie, I'm just now starting to learn RVH and I use it sparingly. It's part of my warmup, but I'd say that I use it maybe 1 or 2 times per game right now because I'm not comfortable enough with it to change from my old school "stand and hug the hell out of the post" position. As for masks, I have 2 ProtechSport Kevlar masks (Theodore mold) and I love them. One has a Cat's eye and the other has the cheater Beaupre type cage. One mask topic that I find isn't talked about much is whether to use a chin cup or a chin sling. I am sling all the way. Thoughts, Keeks?
The RVH plays a wicked number on my hips and knees. Not as flexible as I was in my 30s. Boot in is the least stressful out of the 3. Otherwise I still rely on the PLU applying the same rules as the RVH or simply stand and lean to your post while cutting the passing lane with the stick and/or glove and rotate (c-cut) out to close the angle as needed. Still works you know ;)
Great video, on the whole. Great sponsor on the "hole" too! I'm curious what your opinion on Khudobin has been through the playoffs? The guy was thrown into the fire and has been absolutely lights out, in my opinion. He might steal this series for the Stars singlehandedly. Shots are currently 130-92 in favour of Vegas... Having spent years working in a sports store and having fit countless people for masks, the one thing I can say without doubt is that FIT is more important than brand/model. A low end mask that fits well with less negative space is a far better option than a high end mask that's too big to protect its wearer properly. That, and wear a dangler (if it doesn't drive you absolutely mental). I've replaced plenty of danglers cracked by shots that would have hit someone right in the throat. The rest is usually preference, in this guy's opinion anyway
Agree 100%. I see many masks that arent fit correctly and those danglers are either a love or hate it thing. I have worn them without issue. So on the whole, great input as usual Kris
@@FutureProGoaltendingThanks Keeks, I try to be thoughtful. Agreed 100% on the danglers being love it or hate it. I really dislike the rattling, and when they get scratched they can definitely be a hindrance when you're looking for pucks down low. I had to slip in an Austin Powers reference after our conversation about kids not knowing who Mini-Me was th-cam.com/video/EFkIZ-Zf32Y/w-d-xo.html
I’ve been wearing a Warwick since 05 and purchased another one in 2016 to customize to look more like a Harrison. Warwicks are absolutely bulletproof and great people to deal with! 👍🏼. Keeks, how come you don’t have a Harrison cage for your Harrison mask?
I love Warwick and the game used Harrison just has a replacement cage on for photos / display purposes... Good friends with Greg, so I guess if I ever come out of retirement I will reach out..
I love my Bauer 961 Profile with white CatEye. I think it is one of the more comfortable helmets and I’ve never gotten hurt wearing it when hit in the head. Mines all white but I’m looking to change that very soon.
Good Morning Coach. Currently sporting the Bauer NME VTX certified. Cat eye would provide better field of vision, but I'm not getting paid to play so protection is a priority for beer league. Bauer is super comfortable off the shelf and very light. Protection is good. What do I win ? Or has the prize flown away already? Another great video Keeks.
I’m here for the great and vigorous mask-d-bate. Steve, you the pivot man! Nothing through you, nothing underneath you. Stay strong and tight up against that pole.
Loving this RVH series. After playing back videos of myself, I can see I'm way over using the RVH in situations I shouldn't be (players coming out of the corner). I also tend to stay down much more than I should also instead of playing from my feet. Although being 53, it's not as easy popping up as it used to be. As for the mask/cage debate, I use an old Itech Profile 4600 which has served me quite well. It's taken a John Ogrodnik wicked wrister with no ill effects. I recently had it refurbished by Gary Warwick and he talked me into switching from a chrome grid to a white cateye. Great decision. Hopefully in the next few months I can have Gary build me a Warwick custom mask complete w/ custom paint. But until than it'll be my trusty old 4600. Keep the vids coming Keeks. This old fart just might learn something. 😆😊
I am a High School girls coach in New Hampshire USA. There is no debate, our goalies, girls and boys have to wear a certified cage, so the cats eye is out. And yes I hear about it, my granddaughter is our goalie and frequently lets me know about it! Over the summer I bought her a Warrior Fiberglass helmet, cannot remember the model now. But she likes it better than her plastic Bauer. Apparently it does not ring as much when hit by a puck. I need to learn more about helmet construction, That might be a good topic for discussion. Anyway keep up the good work Coach. We love your humor and lessons, I think she got quite a bit out the angles series, I know I did. I will show her the RVH series too. Once we get back on the ice we will see how much sunk in...for both of us!
I like a certified cage because I also wear a certified cage when I skate out and I am really used to the square bars. Plus, as a beer leaguer well past 40yo, I am more worried about my eyesight than my Save%. The biggest things with masks are getting one that is really protective and it fits. Different masks will fit different shapes of melons better. So, find what works for you. And as a former combo wearing dork, I would love to try the combo like mask that Coveted has come out with. Maybe in a few years when my son is done playing hockey and I have a little more money.
Have a covered A5 jr for my son. Great mask with great protection -IMO. Agree with the flex for shock absorption, but should be replaced if bent? Also thinking about changing stainless steel cage to white. Great TH-cam channel. Lots to great content. Thanks
Yes, my favorite goalie, Valarmov got lit up 7 secs before the end of the game, as you excellently pointed out. I am very critical of him, at times, but he has played well, outside of game #1. A good mask debate is very healthy to have.
I enjoy your videos, I am always trying to learn to be better. Watch a lot of Travis vids too. I’m nearly 50 only been playing for 11 years. Only playing pickup. But usually on ice 4 or 5 times a week. Thanx for the great videos.
For practice get a set of anchor pegs, and in games you have to practice getting there in time but landing soft on the post, almost like you are catching it with your body and easing into iit.
Hey. Loving your videos. Love the cat-eye cage when I can use it but have a certified cage just in case for when I sub in for different leagues. I'm currently in a custom painted Sportmask which I designed. Love it. Got my son out of the polycarbonate mask and into a Hackva. Heavier but much safer. Keep the vids coming. As a not-so-young goalie, any info I can gleam to make me more competitive, I will take.
How far out should we be RVHing? Lets say the puck is at 7pm, we're RVHing; if they pass it to 4pm, stand up? Stay down? As for masks, I have an Otny/Sport Masque and i love it. I have taken shots to the forehead (Cuz slow glove hand) and it's protected me well.
Right my daughter is an NM5 stock. Stock my son rocked a Vaughn Mask stock. I went to an eddy for a while during the mid 90’s but want back to my my Jofa Goalie helmet mask combo till I was old enough to replace the cage with a Cooper/HM cat eye mask. All the masks always had a dangler
I'm stuck in my old ways with my goalie cage... Copper/Bauer HM30 combo. I should upgrade, but the cage combo is too comfortable and I feel less claustrophobic.
I prefer the cat eye cage personally. I can see the puck because I dont have boxes breaking my vision. I have had a few issues along the way with various masks failing but have lucky with my ccm 9000 holding up to a lot of hockey. I also rock the throat dangle and despite those failing at various shots I am yet to have an issue with injury (knocks wood). Now to the RVH. I dont like to use it as a primary save selection. I will use it when I am required to prevent a wrap around but as a bigger (6 ft1 and 268lbs) guy it takes me longer to recover and position if I have to follow a rebound or deflection on the shot.
I incorporated Rask's boot-inside-post into my game a long time ago, I hate seeing goal line shots going in because of the massive gaps the goalie creates with a skate on post.
I'm a rec goalie and own 3 combo masks all made by Jerry Wright. The first one is from 28 years ago when he was making masks for Itech under his Wright Mask company. He treated me like a pro and I wore that mask way too long (about 18 years) but was a fantastic mask. I bought another one from him 8 years ago when I discovered he was back on his own with new designs and then another one a few years ago when I learned he was retiring. All three have the cats eye cage. I only had one incident in a rec league many years ago where a skater slid into me and the end of his stick slid through and struck me on the eyebrow. Was not a hard hit and nothing more than a little bump but it did concern me enough to switch to a certified cage. A few years later I returned to the cats eye after struggling with the line of sight through the certified cage. I've had no other issues and for the past decade am just playing pickup. All three have a custom paint job (the latest two by Jay Plant in Kitchener), two are generally dark and one is light. I really like Jerry's masks and he was awesome to deal with. I've gone through several cages and agree that 'some' give in the cage ensures that it absorbs some energy away from the head itself. Being a short goalie, I feel my head may be in line of more shots. I think the masks have done well. :)
Victory v6, white, glossy finish, white powder coated straight bar. I've never felt a shot while wearing my v6, and it is comfortable. The padding can also be re done as my head grows. I like a medium chin and dont wear a dangler. I might get a v8 soon as I moved up to a higher level this year.
I just got on the waitlist for a protechsport sport :). I played women’s hockey in college and used a sportmask T3 which I believe is made with carbon fiber, some Kevlar and a special resin to make the shell strong. The mask did well in women’s hockeyand some pickup/ beer league, but I am playing with men in Arizona, so I sub in occasionally at higher levels. The strong shell concept isn’t absorbing the impact well with higher end shots, and I don’t feel I am adequately protected if I am playing anything above B level men’s league. I have a copper colored cat eye on it now that I like with the thicker Sportmask middle bar that works well. I did have an eddy single bar cage on there as well and didn’t notice too much of a difference.
Love cat eye masks. Currently using one from SportMask and it’s a tank. I got custom decals from Custom Cages a couple years back and they still look like new today. No chipping and if I get tired of them I can just peel off and get new ones. Good points about the chrome bars. Never noticed issues with mine but worth testing out.
I went from a combo bucket to a mask back in the '90s. First mask was a Van Velden from Simmons. Moved on to a Reidic. Tried a Hackva for a season but the fit didn't work for me. Went back to a Reidic cause they're so light and the foam is/was customizable. After 10 years in it, I just ordered a certified Sportmask X8. I've always used a cat-eye (certified and pro) but playing beer league with guys who have little to no control with their sticks, I want to save my eyes for another 50 years. If I can't get used to the straight bars, then I'll go back to cat-eye and just stick wack anyone that comes near my crease :D. As for old school masks, my all-time favorite is Sevigny's followed by Fuhr.
I wear a Bauer NME8 with a chrome Cat Eye Chrome and cage skins design on it. Blew most of my budget on a better level noggin protector. So no nifty paint job, and the Cat Eye gives me confidence I didn't have before using it.
I played from all my youth until junior A with a Jofa Helmet with an oversized caged (similar to Pelle Lindbergh) and I had to change in the senior leagues when my cage just broke. Honestly, I might be crazy but finding a new Jofa Helmet with a new cage, I would return to this anytime. Litgther, better vision and the shock absorbtion was way better. The thing was also maybe 1 or 2 inches wider too, so I may have save a couple mor with it!
Nice educational video. Benjamin is starting to find that toe-position, but sometimes its just practice, practice and more practice. So, where can I order that preparation cream? 😂
I’m a Beer League Goalie, finally threw down some serious coin for a Coveted X-3 mask. Have a chrome straight bar cage because beer leaguers aren’t good with keeping sticks down in the crease. Haven’t had any light deflection issues with the chrome. Wouldn’t mind going cat-eye, but only if I’m playing with more experienced players. It’s a solid mask, taken a few pucks and sticks off the cage and hardly felt recoil.
You're not kidding about guys and their sticks around the crease. I've got more marks on my mask from sticks than pucks, by far. I swear a couple guys were looking to pry the mask off my head.
I just play rec league, but I also noticed that with RVH fail #1, it's the position where I end up taking the most pucks to the head/face because that one spot (high stick side above the shoulder) is the only option a shooter has. Sorry if my terminology is off. Anyway, does this happen to anyone else?
Scott Beard I think, purposely putting your head at crossbar height when a man isn’t within a stick length encourages concussions...If I’m teaching a goal scoring student, they are taught that if you are 15 - 20 feet out and the goalie is in RVH go for their ears.. it will either go in clean, create a juicy rebound or potentially stun the starting goalie.. all good outcomes if you are the opposition.
‘Mc Kitchen’! Don’t worry I hope to get a session with U someday & you’ll be able to see my last name & know the struggle is REAL! Masks: I have had a few diff brands.. A Bauer Reactor, Heaton, then to a Bauer NM7, & now a Coveted 906.. I Love Cat Eye cages.. Never had to use the ‘bird’ cage style (reactor didn’t have the option of CE). The Coveted is lightweight, but feels very protective! & I did take a few head shots, bar gave way, just like u described.. Definitely helps absorbs! Thanks!
I just went from a hard cheap Bauer NM5 to a Warrior R/F1+. Love it so far but haven't got a lot of ice time with it. Also went for a music themed design; a mix between my favorite album from Avenged Sevenfold, "City of Evil", and a tribute to their original drummer who passed away in 2009. I'm currently looking for a strap system that frees the backplate... Also, for the cateye cage, there's a really popular model here that I went for, it's the "Optimus" by "Guardian Angel Cages" (on Facebook). Handmade here in Quebec, Canada. You should check them out :D (I haven't recieved mine yet tho, so I cant comment on it)
What? No one using the double pad stack anymore? Hahaha. Love the breakdown of RVH. As a 50 something beer-leaguer it's good to have an idea of how and more importantly when to use the RVH. As for the mask, I am playing with a Reebok 7K with chrome straight bar cage. I had a VanVelden with cat eye that ended up bent, so I went with straight but I am looking to change my mask and will probably go back to cat eye. Also use the dangler after taking a puck to the throat years ago.
Great video! I'm not a huge fan of Rvh. It's a good tool but that's where it ends. As far as makes go I'm looking at a bauer 950. I'm coming out of a eddy gt pro. It's at least 5 years old. I would love to get it planted. But it's not in the budget.
Christopher Enger as you may know I’m not a fan either (#rvhfail) when it is so overwhelmingly incorrectly taught and used incorrectly. I really think it is only effective when the man is very close and in the midst of pressured attack.
I wear the sport mask that Quick uses. It seems to be very protective for the most part. Has a cat eye with a flat center bar. I've been through a few cage's from taking pucks dead center. It bends like it's supposed too. Never really been hurt from a shot. A few stingers here and there, usually on deflections hitting the carbon fiber and not the cage. The only time I've been hurt in it was from my guy getting slew footed and him axe chopping me on the top of the head. Was out for three weeks with a concussion. Other than that I really like my sport mask. Most likely will buy another one when the time comes. White cage is the best for me.
@@FutureProGoaltending my guy was the one who got slew footed. When he fell he flailed his arms and stick, then chopped my head on accident. His stick got me right on top of my helmet.
I just picked up a 961, coming from a sportmask mage. It’s a bit heavier, but I feel safer in it. I don’t see myself ever going back to a combo of any sort.
John Smith I have personally had numerous concussions and stitches using the mask helmet combo, a la Chris Osgood style. I actually had a puck knock me out and Stick in the helmet....
I have a Phantom NXI mask with a cat eye cage that I've been wearing since probably around 2003. I absolutely love the fit of that mask and I wish they were still around to buy new. I feel like it should probably be replaced after this long but I don't know that I have the budget for a new mask. I've thought about at least trying to find someone to replace all the padding but then I worry about that changing the fit. I'm also a proponent of wearing a dangler. I've been wearing one since I first started in goal in 1995 so I'm just used to it. The one thing I really like about my dangler, and I can't actually say why it matters, is that it only has the two side holes to tie it on to the mask instead of also having the hole in the middle. It's an old Cooper one and I'm going to be upset if it ever breaks, haha. I'm originally from Port Huron so the dream would be to get a Warwick mask with a custom paint job, but that price tag is... a bit more than I can swing, haha. Speaking of Port Huron, in the mid-to-late '90s you did a couple short clinics there that I attended. Somewhere I think I still have the Future Pro VHS tape that I got at one of them...
Jeff Fogal how is it going Jeff... I remember those masks. Get Gary at Warwick to referb foam. He can make sure it fits 100 % and he won’t charge a ton if you tell him Keeks sent you
Sport mask with a cage. I find the cats eye kind of hard to see through if I’m looking down. I’m also anxious about how big those eye holes are… Bauer and CCM don’t fit me well.. Mine is bright yellow. I have a theory based on what Felix Potvin has said about big bold colours and simple designs and also what F1 racing drivers have said about Ayrton Senna. So far, I think it works.
Well on the mask debate are we talking certified cats eye or the pro version none certified? I personally like the non certified version myself. The certified one I find it has more bars than the basic hockey cage and that sucks. On the cage I prefer a white cage clean simple goes with everything. For helmets I had a very old van velden and it was nice but got to old to use. Updated to an Eddy version and the newest one for me is a Bauer 950x that is super nice.
@@FutureProGoaltending How do you feel about the Pro Cat Eye equipped with optional Riot Shield? I liked it, but I think the next prototype might need some additional ventilation 😆
When I first started playing in 86 you only had two choices either a helmet and cage or you tried to find a custom mask makers and most of them were in canada. Fortunately I worked at the Hartford civic center and was able to talk to Hartford whaler's goaltender mike Liut and he recommended harrison to me so I went with a harrison mask. Unfortunately in 2018 I was forced to replace my harrison mask because it needed a replacement cage and the inside padding was starting to fall out and I lost contact with harrison his old shop number was out of service. I replaced it with a mask made by goalie mask collector they make NHL ice ready replica mask's and I've had no issues with it but harrison's and lefebvre mask's were probably the best masks out there the shelf masks we see today came later in 2003/2004 I believe🏒🥅🐳🐳🐳
I've been wearing an NME10, its been flawless although I don't take many to the head (thankfully). I used to want one painted up but I like the carbon fiber look and I have other things to spend money on these days than painting my mask.
Itech 961! yes I said Itech strong as ever never felt anything off my mask and also itech is Bauer. I use a cateye. Black bucket with a white cage is the best combo. I have Crome cage for now And I put apiece of white tape under the eye liners. The only reason I say that is for me, it creates a optical illusion white ice white cage . It looks like you don’t have anything on your face. But again that’s just what I do so it’s up to you.
Mask debate... I have worn a Custom John Brown, a Custom Ernie Higgins & Custom Greg Harrison all full fiberglass Masks!!! I have a Harrison Combo and Eddy....My Harrison is old made in 1990 I don't trust the cage anymore, I now wear my Eddy Custom I have a Cat eye and I had my Mask wrapped by Mario Designs here in Barrie ON & Nash open harness.....
I like the cheater cage. I don’t like all the crossing bars in my line of sight when looking down with a cat eye. I use a Masked Marvel Assassin. Matte black and a shiny metal cage because I didn’t want to pay extra for powder coating. I have an oddly shaped head and this mask fit the best.
Cat-eye man myself... I'm often tempted by the big square holed "cheater" cages but man those things look kinda scary lol... The eye holes are huge. I'm pretty satisfied with my Bauer Profile mask but one thing I don't like about the big players in the mask space (CCM, BAUER, VAUGHN) is that I don't understand why they wouldn't make the face opening a little bigger in their masks... Especially at the bottom. It would really help with vision, help get more air flow and your teammates would hear you better. There's this up and coming mask company called Coveted masks in Mississauga (you can check out their Instagram) and they make masks with a larger face opening and larger cage overall. When I have the budget I'm definitely looking into one of those. EDIT: As for the color of the cage, I think any MATTE color is fine. You're right about the shine and gloss, it can be distracting (although some of the best goalies in the world wear chrome so I don't know... maybe once you're at that level it doesn't make a difference?) I currently have a matte black one. Like you, I used to think that white was the best choice (and I kinda still do) but I chose black one for my current mask because I liked the look and it goes well with my custom design. Played a dozen games with my black one so far and I'm not having any trouble finding the puck. In fact, One could almost argue that the white jerseys (there's always a team with white jerseys) contrast more against the black cage so your brain localizes the players a fraction of a second faster... but I mean, at this point does it really matter? I think the main point at the end of the day is: Try not to get chrome unless you're Price or Vasilevskiy :P
@@FutureProGoaltending Ohh... See I always thought about that but wasn't sure... I thought maybe the inside was actually painted another color... but just scuffed... that makes total sense!! Thanks again!
I wish i could get my hand on a mage-style mask over here in sweden. I love using my old sk2000/hm30 combo when i play for fun, but the protection when using over 30 year old gear is lacking when i play with my league team where the shots are hard. Thus i use a bauer nme IX, and i have been happy. Using a cat-eye right now, but are looking into getting a cheater cage. When i tried a friends mask with a cheater cage i found that the straight bars and less (in lack of better words) clutter with bars outside the big eye holes worked better for me. The added protection of a cheater over a cat eye is a bonus for sure
McChicken lol.. well there's nothing like a classic mask from the 70's which I never got to wear but probably would've if i started playing at an earlier age .. so with that aside I did use the Cooper helmet with HM30 cage and dangler for awhile and liked the look and feel of that. Then went to a heavy Eddy w/certified grid cage which was pretty good but had to change when a wrister cracked it.. from there I got a Fusion mask w/certified grid, no dangler which I like it has Kevlar in it.. and most recently I got a CCM 1.9 mask w/certified grid cage made with some carbon. I have never had a pro mask.. i just play pickup hockey and have always been ok with mid range masks. I made the mistake of saying a Polycarbonate mask was safe on a goalie website once and the mask snobs came out in full force acting like.. well.. aholes (sorry) ..so even though i still disagree with them I will leave it at that.
I Like The Greg Harisson Goalie Mask Worn By Kirk Mclean, Corey Hirsch Ed Belfour And Bill Ranford. I Like The White Cats Eye Cage So The Goalie Can See Out Of it But, The Goofiest Goalie Mas That I've Ever Seen In The N.H.L Is The Ed Cubberly Masks With the C Cut Outs On the Sides.I Also Like Vaughn Warwick And Eddy And John Pothos
And I’ve never had my own cage I only played in one on ice men’s hockey tournament and that was the only time I wore goalie skates me and my team lost in overtime championship after my best defencemen took a penalty in overtime and the other teams best player came and put the puck bar down on me
FutureProGoaltending I’m a native just like Gino I never heard of no one eating a535 or gasoline rags in cribs haha that was hilarious but I bet it’s a thing where ever he was from
Masks have come a long way since I started playing for no mask to the cages they wearing now I loved the full face mask I started to wear was a face plant like tony E wore then the J Plante then they wanted better eye protection goalies but it toke away lots visible
(Newer goalie, transitioning from a player position) I like having a cat eyes cage on my CCM GFL 1.5. I feel a cat eyes cage helps me see the puck better like I would while playing out. I'm actually waiting for my new to me mask, a Victory V4 to show up today in the mail an will be curious to compare both masks as far as weight, comfort, and jus overall feel.
I also agree with the chrome. One of the rinks here is SUPER bright an I've noticed if I am out directly center about 6" ahead of the crease, I have a lil spots that reflect in. But it's the only place that has it an I've had trouble finding new cages for my CCM, so I haven't had it powder coated a different color yet. My Victory has a black cage, so I'll be curious to see that difference tonight actually
Update; now that I've used my mask twice, I notice less glare if I glance down an maybe it's cause the bars are a different style between my CCM and Victory, but I feel like I don't notice them as much in my Victory. I actually flinched on a shot the first night wearing it an turned my head because I didn't think the bars were there (I got hit in the face playing out jus about a month ago). I definitely like the black better though in the smaller rink with more lights. I felt like I noticed the mask less for sure
I have to admit, I’ve never mask debated before. Is it acceptable to do it in public? What bothers me though is seeing young goalies (and there are many) who look through the middle, or even bottom holes of their cage when looking straight ahead. With that kind of rearward tilt to their helmet how can they possibly see anything down near their feet? Craig Anderson is guilty of this.
I wear a cat-eye. Never liked the visibility in any straight bar cages. I just upgraded to the new Axis Pro from the previous 1.9 model. I tried on as many masks as I could before going with the Axis. The CCM models just seem to fit my face better than any other mask out there. There's a perfect seal with my jaw, temples, and forehead. No other model was as good a match. The fact that it's super light is nice, but had no impact on my decision. I'm sticking with the chrome cage and did a custom vinyl chrome wrap on the rest of the mask, because I'm vain. It looks sick nasty. Also, you're stupid if you're not wearing a dangler.
I find the vision is really good, especially downward vision compared to the cateye. The only problem is they are both technically illegal in youth hockey. (I have not gotten caught yet!) knocks on wood

Paul Branchaud I used a chin cup and if I put pads back on it would take a long time to apply the new post play.

And I love Khudobin’s battle and compete
@@FutureProGoaltendingThanks Keeks, I try to be thoughtful.
Agreed 100% on the danglers being love it or hate it. I really dislike the rattling, and when they get scratched they can definitely be a hindrance when you're looking for pucks down low.

I love that fuhr mask. My all time fave goalie.
mike arsenault no one with a quicker glove hand ever existed..👍
And to think glen sather didn’t like him at first
Warren skorodenski best mask
Great mask!
A raging mask debate 😂😂😂
I love the classroom structure of the videos (101 to 201 to 301), it's engaging and always has me looking for the next video!
Thanks for watching Trey... can you tell I was a school teacher?

Good Morning Coach. Currently sporting the Bauer NME VTX certified. Cat eye would provide better field of vision, but I'm not getting paid to play so protection is a priority for beer league. Bauer is super comfortable off the shelf and very light. Protection is good. What do I win ? Or has the prize flown away already? Another great video Keeks.
Thanks Anthony... no prizes today ....😎
I’m here for the great and vigorous mask-d-bate. Steve, you the pivot man! Nothing through you, nothing underneath you. Stay strong and tight up against that pole.
Reminds me of the scene in “old school” where the guy knocks at the door and says, “I’m here for the $&@“ bang”....
Thanks for chining in!
Thanks for watching!
Maybe in a few years when my son is done playing hockey and I have a little more money.
this stuff is expensive
Have a covered A5 jr for my son. Great mask with great protection -IMO.
Agree with the flex for shock absorption, but should be replaced if bent?
Also thinking about changing stainless steel cage to white.
Great TH-cam channel. Lots to great content. Thanks
Foodboy316 yes once bent. New cage. It is sacrificial, like danglers...
Yes, my favorite goalie, Valarmov got lit up 7 secs before the end of the game, as you excellently pointed out. I am very critical of him, at times, but he has played well, outside of game #1. A good mask debate is very healthy to have.
Frank Vee very healthy indeed
I enjoy your videos, I am always trying to learn to be better. Watch a lot of Travis vids too. I’m nearly 50 only been playing for 11 years. Only playing pickup. But usually on ice 4 or 5 times a week. Thanx for the great videos.
Appreciate you watching
Definitely agree with the cats eye in white. Best vision and no glare. My cats eye was Crome and I ended up painting it.
Bright lights really glare into he chrome, and I have seen guys lightly sand chrome on inside of cage to dull reflections
How do you keep from knocking the net off when going post to post? I always find myself knocking the net off .
Goalie4SoundMind appreciate you watching!
How far out should we be RVHing? Lets say the puck is at 7pm, we're RVHing; if they pass it to 4pm, stand up? Stay down? As for masks, I have an Otny/Sport Masque and i love it. I have taken shots to the forehead (Cuz slow glove hand) and it's protected me well.
laxinthe303 if you can’t touch the guy with your stick..... stay out of RVH....😎 my opinion only...
We are lucky to have these much safer options these days
I'm stuck in my old ways with my goalie cage... Copper/Bauer HM30 combo. I should upgrade, but the cage combo is too comfortable and I feel less claustrophobic.
I rocked that back in the day...
Smart!
Mark Asao great input Mark!
Sweet set up
I just got on the waitlist for a protechsport sport :).
Thanks for watching!
Cats eye always 😎
Ah yes Richard sevigny!
I wear a Bauer NME8 with a chrome Cat Eye Chrome and cage skins design on it. Blew most of my budget on a better level noggin protector. So no nifty paint job, and the Cat Eye gives me confidence I didn't have before using it.
Must have equipment confidence
This so funny, but very educational. Keep em coming. No pun intended.
I will see if I’m up for it.
FutureProGoaltending all kidding aside Aaron rocks an OTNY, heavy but has taken some bombs off of it. It came stock with a waffle cage.
Are you sure it was Pelle Lindbergh? I thought he wore the out face fitting fiberglass old school mask right up until his tragic death
@@FutureProGoaltending, oh you're right more like Tommy Soderstrom

So, where can I order that preparation cream? 😂
I have some left over.

I swear a couple guys were looking to pry the mask off my head.
coveted make great masks
Yeah, I had to learn this lesson the hard way.
Thanks!
We need to get the remaining Brian cells we have
Brain
Very True!! I was never a Pro & probably took as many head shots! 🤪🤪🤪
You should check them out :D (I haven't recieved mine yet tho, so I cant comment on it)
Will do that
Steve Prokos most people only get hit in the throat hard...... once...
@@FutureProGoaltending and of course it was in warm up. Luckily it wasn't too hard.
That guy who “accidentally” slew footed you sounds like a beaut
@@FutureProGoaltending my guy was the one who got slew footed. When he fell he flailed his arms and stick, then chopped my head on accident. His stick got me right on top of my helmet.

As far as masks, Warwick Belfour style model custom painted by DaveArt.
Excellent choices. Love my Warwick
I just picked up a 961, coming from a sportmask mage. It’s a bit heavier, but I feel safer in it. I don’t see myself ever going back to a combo of any sort.
Much safer
@@FutureProGoaltending Please Explain
He can make sure it fits 100 % and he won’t charge a ton if you tell him Keeks sent you
@@FutureProGoaltending Thanks Mr. McKichan, I'll have to get in touch with Mr. Warwick. I appreciate that!
Sport mask with a cage. I find the cats eye kind of hard to see through if I’m looking down. I’m also anxious about how big those eye holes are…
Bauer and CCM don’t fit me well..
Mine is bright yellow. I have a theory based on what Felix Potvin has said about big bold colours and simple designs and also what F1 racing drivers have said about Ayrton Senna.
So far, I think it works.
Very individual choice here
Well on the mask debate are we talking certified cats eye or the pro version none certified? I personally like the non certified version myself. The certified one I find it has more bars than the basic hockey cage and that sucks. On the cage I prefer a white cage clean simple goes with everything. For helmets I had a very old van velden and it was nice but got to old to use. Updated to an Eddy version and the newest one for me is a Bauer 950x that is super nice.
longnlow 091 pro version...FTW
@@FutureProGoaltending only way to go with a sweet custom paint job is the winner
@@FutureProGoaltending How do you feel about the Pro Cat Eye equipped with optional Riot Shield? I liked it, but I think the next prototype might need some additional ventilation 😆
Kris Rogers very safe 😳
Great story meeting Liut
Keep these videos coming!!!!!
Dom as long as I coach goalies I will.....I am getting a little old however...🐐
I've been wearing an NME10, its been flawless although I don't take many to the head (thankfully). I used to want one painted up but I like the carbon fiber look and I have other things to spend money on these days than painting my mask.
What do this go for money wise?
I bought my NME10 used for $550. I love the carbon fiber look too. Added a cat-eye to it and have taken a few dozen shots off of it, love this mask.
Nuts and Bolts once I was permitted to use cat-eye I never looked back...
Love the correlation between Prep H and the rvh😆. Black Vaughn 7700, with a black cat eye cage, because I really dig Vaughn.
Preparation RVH
Itech 961! yes I said Itech strong as ever never felt anything off my mask and also itech is Bauer.
Great input
Mask debate... I have worn a Custom John Brown, a Custom Ernie Higgins & Custom Greg Harrison all full fiberglass Masks!!! I have a Harrison Combo and Eddy....My Harrison is old made in 1990 I don't trust the cage anymore, I now wear my Eddy Custom I have a Cat eye and I had my Mask wrapped by Mario Designs here in Barrie ON & Nash open harness.....
Nice
Dillon cat eye anything on the cage because I'll never play under TV lights haha
Hawkeye Goalie agree
I am good friends with Stefaniuk who owns coveted and have a half dozen of his demo masks... excellent quality and service
@@FutureProGoaltending Thanks for the reply! I edited my comment to add on cage colors just for your info :) Just letting you know lol. Great video!

Love my sportsmask mage rs
I wish i could get my hand on a mage-style mask over here in sweden. I love using my old sk2000/hm30 combo when i play for fun, but the protection when using over 30 year old gear is lacking when i play with my league team where the shots are hard. Thus i use a bauer nme IX, and i have been happy. Using a cat-eye right now, but are looking into getting a cheater cage. When i tried a friends mask with a cheater cage i found that the straight bars and less (in lack of better words) clutter with bars outside the big eye holes worked better for me. The added protection of a cheater over a cat eye is a bonus for sure

makes sense

Cameron Walther let us know your review on it!
I have seen it a lot in certain masks. Makes zero sense to have the face un square to the aerial angle of the puck
All those years of marriage have allowed you the time to hone your mask debating skills I bet.
I have way more mask debates now than I did as a youth...
I use a otny elite mask white certified cat eye
Nice
Sweet set up
Anyone here have a wall helmet ?
I have seen kids at the camp with them
@@FutureProGoaltending thoughts ?
erichansen82 at my age they all look the same.... but kids said they really liked them
I use a cheater cage
Andrew Young how is the vision?
I find the vision is really good, especially downward vision compared to the cateye. The only problem is they are both technically illegal in youth hockey. (I have not gotten caught yet!) knocks on wood
