I got it to land on my finger! But we live in PA, and the only kind we get are the Ruby Throated. Looks like you get a lot more. Keep trying! You feel stupid doing it, but they have to get used to seeing you. Hope by now you were able to get them to come to your cup. Great idea, especially with that volume of hummers!

ania k the video was made on the balcony of my apartment around Halloween time. The figure on the left is a fake monster guy we made for part of the season's decor.
As a kid I would catch hummingbirds by hand by snatching them as they were hovering at a leaky water faucet. I ended with a 1qt Mason jar full of them (6 or 8). I kept them as a trophy to show my friends for awhile (an hour)...then released them. None died or were harmed. Perhaps a bit traumatized but not physically harmed.
