    My first luxury watch was the Seamaster 2531.80 .. all because of Goldeneye. Trying to afford that 1,000 quid watch when I was 21 was an insane amount of money for me back then .. but so well spent.

    The first watch worn by Sean Connery in a bond film was a gruen precision 510,which will be much cheaper than the Rolex or Omega.

    Zenith is still a most underrated brand in the vintage market and in the 50’s and 60’s they have made the best movements out there like the 135 chronometer the 133.8 bumper automatic etc ! Beating the Omega’s movements at that time ! many people don’t know that but that’s fine with me 😊

    It was exactly after rewatching "For Your Eyes Only" that I bought the Golden Solar Tuna. I was just watch spotting rewatching old films and that Golden Tuna on Roger Moore got me enthused enough to get something much more affordable, and a little wearable (the solar Tunas are a tiny bit smaller and thinner than their full size brothers) to capture that experience for myself.
    Funny thing about "Thunderball" is when the traitorous brother of Domino goes down with the hijacked bomber into the sea, he starts off with a Breitling Navitimer. But, later when you see him, I think Bond finds the plane and his body, the watch switches to what appears to be possibly a gold submariner..it was shinier with no panda dial. Whatever it was, it definitely was not the Navitimer he has and died with. It also had a shiny bracelet where as the Navitimer traditionally came on leather strap back then as was the version worn by that pilot. At some point afterwarss,that other watch switches back to a Navitimer. Rewatch it and you can see what I mean.

    Very fun video really enjoyed it. There sure was a lot of watches scattered around the Bond movie. Even a Breitling Navitimer in Thundeball made a cameo on a table. If you blinked you missed it.

    So you can replace a TAG movement yourself with an affordable ETA???
    That's a relief. I have a late 80s 2000 Professional that I enjoyed for a few years before the crown stem came loose and rendered it unable to set the time or date, as well as not engaging the activation when fully screwed down.
    I would love to have it repaired one day...

    Interesting that you could 'upgrade' the TAG quartz by dropping in an ETA.

    • @ArmandTheWatchGuy
      @ArmandTheWatchGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      + chris penn: I agree that it's rather peculiar but, given that the original movement was also an ETA and that these were very much tool watches, I rather like the idea of ultra-affordable servicing

    I just saw a 2541.80 quartz version sell for $2,300, which I never thought I’d see for these Seamaster. But then again, this was is fantastic and while popular seemed undervalued for years.

      I've been watching them slowly creep up. I just bought a 2531.80 with immaculate bezel and custard patina for 2100.
      Tougher to come by in good condition as time rolls on.

  • @mondrayuk

    Focusing on the watches that have appeared in the Bond films. For me, the one that stands out the most is Spectre based on the Seamaster 300 1957 with the hour bezel and lollipop seconds hand. The twin barrel master COSC 60 hour power reserve 8400 Caliber is superb all the way. Genuine classic looking with modern component with a 15,000 Gauss anti-magnetism. So well built and will always retain its appeal throughout time. In the Seamaster 300M and the Planet Ocean the HEV/HRV being unnecessary as one would never go deep sea diving to the point that helium would need to escape the watch, so what was the point? The Aqua Terra being a good one BUT the current 8900 version better dial design would have been better. Roger Moore's 5513 Rolex Submariner being second (over the similar Dalton's 16610) Connery's Rolex 6538 being third.

      + John Shick: That's an extremely good point. However, as a friend of someone who owns one, servicing it is a total nightmare and so they aren't really '...watches you can afford' anymore. At the moment, you can wait up to 2 years for someone with the necessary parts and experience to service one.

    • @johnshick4303
      @johnshick4303 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes they are now very expensive but the 7a38 which featured day date is much more afordabe and few will know the difference, I owed a 7a38 I bought new in the late seventies and finally died in the andaman sea in about 2003, I now have three all working of the 7a38@@ArmandTheWatchGuy

    The big question is whether or not James Bond is actually even cool anymore? Not saying Bond wouldn't wear a luxury watch but, in the field, seems like he would probably wear a G-Shock. Maybe a super badass G-Shock but I doubt he would be wearing some $8,000 dive watch with fake patina. The fact that the current bond does in fact we're a luxury watch with very little other than telling the time somewhat accurately pretty much makes him out of touch as a hero in a modern world. Kind of makes him a douchebag actually. But let's be honest, anyone that has seen the current Bond movies already knows how many lame Bond has become.

    • @MrLeandroRJ
      @MrLeandroRJ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      he could wear a combination of omegas and gshocks, depending on the occasion.
