    AI seems as powerful as nuclear energy (or even more powerful). One possibility is: just how we controlled nukes by creating a regulatory framework, as a humanity we need to create a framework to control this. When the USA used nuclear bomb on the Japan everybody thought there will be a nuclear arms race and an immediate third world war hence we all are doomed. It has been 80 years and there haven't been a single use of nuclear weapons so far. There are many brilliant minds and also governments already working on this initiative of AI regulation. If controlled some of the downsides of AI such as AI taking control over humanity etc can be minimized. Don't forget about the upsides such as tomorrow AI can cure a cancer or address some of the pressing issues facing the world such as climate change due to its superior intelligence. We may also embark on new ventures such as intergallatic travel (i.e. star wars movies type scenarios) and will have more things to do along with AI robot friends. Also one thing that separates humans from AI is consciousness. May be as a humanity we will focus more on evolving the consciousness and finding some hidden treasures from this unexplored field. Whatever it is, we need to be vigillent, informed and open about new possibilities and hopes.

      I am SO HAPPY that You wrote this Statement on the Comment Section, I am So glad to read it too!! You are Absolutely Correct! Nuclear weapons have existed and So has AI for a very long time, but Regulations have existed for as long as The World has existed and it's to Not let things get out of Control.

      You Are Absolute Correct!!! When I was A teenager; they made us believe that by the year 2025, the World was going to be So Advanced that we were going to be riding in flying Cars, cities were going to be Futuristic, and especially; that humans were going to be "Civilized" and behave with a Higher Consciousness, but None of that has happened.

      I think that "Devin-Feeders" that is people who are involved in the project concept and design will be in need to feed Devin all the data properly. Devin will do the coding, debugging which will again be re-tested and verified by the Devin-Feeders.

      1. Any technology, be it internet, AI, robotics, Communication systems etc etc are all usually mad efor the Military purpose. And after a long period of time those technologies are introduced in civilians for civilian use. But 100% of those technologies are not launched for civilian use.. only less than 50% of the technology is deployed for civilians..
      2. The present world leader USA is an extreme capitalist country. Meaning, those technologies were created by the funding of the capitalists, sold by the capitalists, then deployed in civilians by capitalists. All for one single word that is profit.
      3. So due to the current bad economic situation in the USA and other western countries, companies (obviously owned by capitalists) layoff thousands of human workers to save some money, ultimately saving the company's balance sheet. Then as you can see, the AI advancements have taken rapid pace, with an objective of finding cheaper machine workers, which is what this Devin, ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion etc techs. Goal is to replace the human worker who asks for 100K USD with a machine worker who comes in a lot cheaper.
      4. This "seeking cheap workers" by the capitalists has got something to do with even the illegal migrants crisis going on in USA. If you see news, you'll see that a company(Tyson Foods) are replacing their American workers with the illegal migrants.. Why? Because the illegal migrants wont ask for such hefty money that American worker would ask for. Later on in the future you will see US Military using these illegal migrants as recruits and they will make them do unethical things that maybe the lastest generation of woke American recruits won't accept to do.
      Sorry for my bad English, also this is only my person opinion, if someone disagrees with me, then that's absolutely fine.

      Keeping food supply secure is a problem for the humans, by the humans and of the humans. A critical point you raise! After humanity is relieved of its material pursuits by AI, we will stare helplessly at a new reality in which workers won't need food or salary (maybe all they need is electricity for energy). By then, it may be too late for humans to stop the world's agriculture fields from being grabbed by an AI agenda with no place for food security in it.

    A typical easy task for a software engineer involves cloning a repository, analyzing the requirements (reading the ticket), making code changes, often modifying the infrastructure which may require operating from the cloud portal and updating Infrastructure as Code After making these changes, testing is necessary before pushing the code. Good luck, Devin

    Well, human behavior tends to lean towards panic when faced with new technology. Just consider the shift from typewriters to calculators, then scientific calculators, rendering typewriters obsolete. Eventually, people adapt and integrate the new technology into their lives. However, those who cling to outdated tools like typewriters find themselves left behind. Similarly, before the internet, knowledge was primarily sourced from books. With the digital age, we transitioned to blogs, videos, and online trainings. Technology evolves, and those who embrace it fare better in adapting to current circumstances. Those unwilling to learn and upgrade their skills risk falling behind. As a software engineer, relying on Google for code and solutions used to suffice, but now AI tools aid in diagnosing and troubleshooting issues to some extent. There's still progress to be made, but it's crucial for tech professionals to recognize the need to evolve with the system and meet the demands of the current situation.

    I agree to your view point except for the robot part. We humans need to talk to people to get the domain understanding and what is happening in the company. But actually the experts who know these are also relying on some digital metrics. So technically a system should have the capability to walk through the whole digital footprint better than a human. I get its not there yet, but its not as far as creating a robot to interview an expert.

    • @codebasics
      @codebasics  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      We are working on an AI project for our Auto industry client based in the USA right now and 30 years of domain knowledge is in the brain of the two founders of this company. We understand this domain by having multiple rounds of meetings, documenting it in various excel, word files or sometimes not documenting it but using it directly in our code. Think if you have to ask AI to do this. There are technical constraints as well as compliance constraints hence I believe we are very far away from this future where AI can replace this work. It is a wish that one can create a digital footprint of a domain knowledge and many time this wish gets partially fulfilled but to write a working software you need to know entire picture.

      Good question, In the (not too far) future, I feel that people are expected to handle/supervise an AI model and report any issues that it does incorrectly-for this, you should of course know what a 'do as directed' software engineer knows to identify the wrong doings of the AI.
      Fast forward (may be after some 4 years), people are expected to build an AI of 'do as directed' kind and many more roles would come into play like AI testing, AI engineer, etc.,
      And even more fast forward? I feel the entire landscape of IT jobs get affected more or less but surely towards automation!
      These are just my opinions. I am more than happy to correct myself if I am wrong anywhere.

      If you ask me to pick between data science and software development then my answer is data science due to two reasons (1) demand for data science and AI is very high (2) relatively speaking data science, AI development is hard to replace by AI than software development

      In theory that is possible. Practically however think about robots walking on the streets and interacting with humans, which government would allow that? It will have to go through a long long process of approvals etc. The way governments functions and imminent impact on labour market, I see that we are far away from that future. I have been living in the USA and autonomous driving as a technology is already available but you don't see fully autonomous, driverless cars yet just because of regulations. If you think about factories however certainly robots will be taking our jobs and that's when D&I programs will come in play and help save some jobs.

    That is so dumb!
    Just because you walked to the client, why should Devin be put into a robot to walk to the client ?!
    There is such a thing as distance communication which can simply have Devin have a conversation with a client over telecom.
    Seriously !!!
    Despite all the defensive posture, I see a real fear that, in a few years at the most, 90% of your employees may no longer be your employees and even worse is, the end customers themselves use those advanced tools in the not-too--distant future to obviate your having to walk to your client to get their requirements.
    Basically, they can put many small Dev shops completely out of business with tools available right on their Net connected laptops, etc. Better to take that as a given in a few years and try to work out a new business model where you are still relevant. Don't know what that is likely to be and its going to be hard not to become irrelevant within the net decade.

    • @codebasics
      @codebasics  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Your point that ideally we don't need to do in-person meetings is absolutely correct but many organizations and projects insist on in-person conversations and before I mention some real incident let's make sure the base of our discussion is clear: I am talking about the next 5 years (2024 to 2029), beyond that, I clearly said it is a *mixed bag of chaos and opportunities* (chaos ~ job losses / social unrest, opportunities ~ cure for cancer). Coming back to a real incident: We are working on an AI project and recently I was asked to travel to the West Coast (from the East Coast) for a set of in-person meetings. Why they do need in person meeting (7 hour travel + $$$ on hotels etc) when you can easily do this on Zoom? This is because in-person meetings open up conversations about the vision of the product, the life stories of the founders that inspired that vision, and many other dimensions that can have direct implications on how the product gets developed. I have a friend who works in Oracle ERP cloud where he deals with government officials who are dumb and do not even know how to use Excel. The same officials control budget approvals, and they have domain understanding, and requirements of a software project all in their heads. To work on such projects it is required you travel to DC, have a couple of conversations, and get the information out in a traditional human conversation way. Good luck putting them in front of an AI agent over a telecom conference. They are super sensitive about data privacy, who will trust sharing confidential information with Devin when the creators of Devin themselves are a bit clueless about how Devin behaves (pointing to AI explainability here). Now one may argue what if a robot is playing every single role (product manager, business owner, programmer etc.) well at that point humanity is already doomed and it goes beyond the scope of this discussion (i.e. beyond 5 years)

  • @syedsalman225
    @syedsalman225 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't think AI can test itself as testers need to come with up creative ways to break the system and find bugs. Since AI itself has developed the system there might some bias in the model. As far as devs is concerned the use of programming languages is going to go away and they will be using prompts to create the applications. Remember AI models however advance they cannot mimic the creativity of a human brain.
    Especially the jugaadu behavior we humans have. 😂

      Please watch the video again and understand the point behind 1.0 and 2.0 career. That same concept applies to data scientists, AI engineers etc. For next 5 years, I personally see the demand for data scientists and AI engineers going up because in my own company I am hiring these folks and clearly entire industry is spending money in various AI, DS initiatives. For these initiatives you will need data scientists and AI engineers. Arguing that Devin AI will replace them as well is a very immature statement to make right now (at least looking at 5 years horizon)

    AI is bamasura ,were he put his on own head to him self. Human are not just who repeat what they learnt, but take one top extra… the one step extra is towards evolution.. creating new things and progress human kind. This one step is true in any field like transport.. we did jump directly to bull cart… had problem and each time a step.. AI is good at collecting thing are repeat it. Can it try new steps and can it afford to fail. But if we replace all repeat thing by AI. Human will not take that extra steps and that leads to stand still world… everything is SD 1.0…

    Bro 😂.. even i just keep in one side that 1.O and 2.O ..... AI even can't create complex Front-end of a software where needs only JavaScript and lots of css 😂...and you are talking about system design level things.. thoes are nightmare for AI to understanding the business and make efficient software where only coding is not main thing.
    And please be clear that is software engineering is not only just coding.. its more then that.
