    Excellent review and playthrough!
    Brings me back to when I had my friend, an expert at Zelda games, show me all the forest locations to get the hidden heart containers. We went through all the other dungeons and beat Ganon, marking the first time I finished The Legend of Zelda. Later, he'd help out with Zelda: A Link to the Past.
    Thanks for bringing it all back, Aqualung. I look forward to your next review!

    This game is probably the one that stuck with me the most when I was younger. I would always either play it at my cousin’s house (his cartridge was corrupt. It would always freeze in level 7 for some reason and I would never get to advance further) or rent it. I could easily spend hours on it, Even though I don’t have an NES, I will still play this on the switch if I have an hour to kill, at least with the first quest. Glad you gave this game an A+.
    As always thanks for your review on this and can’t wait to see the next one.

    Level 6 was always the hardest for me - well, second hardest after Level 9. I had to rely on getting the Clock pickup from a fallen enemy to freeze the remaining ones. Also those Bubbles and Darknuts were so damn frustrating.

    Over all, another great video. But you don't need the Power Bracelet to get the Magical Sword, the gels do become bats, but only with the wooden sword, no mention of the dungeon 1 glitch with the 1st locked door, and you can get 3 hearts, 2nd sword, and blue ring before going to the 1st dungeon.

      He's had a couple that ran over an hour plus. His Super Mario 3 one is pretty close to an hour and a half and when he has done some of the MGS games THOSE ran ridiculously long (but worth it)
      But yeah his editing was "Boss Level" on this one for sure...and I just caught back up because TH-cam has a BAD HABIT of not notifying subs but this is truly well..."Legendary"

    29:00 your advice on Zols splitting into Gels is obsolete if people follow the walkthrough and have the white sword. The white sword defeats the Zols without splitting into Gels, and the item drops are usually rupees, making this a fine place to grind for money.

  • @douglasmonroe7417
    @douglasmonroe7417 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That was a good walkthrough/review. I'm glad I subbed to this channel. I haven't really played very many Nintendo games. I did play legend of zelda a link to the past on emulator. Out of all the top down 2d legend of zelda games, that one's the one I enjoyed the most. It also helps that you have a map of Hirule. I did try the original Zelda game on emulator too. But I was getting more frustrated because of the lack of a map system and link's so weak early on. I know I had to go through the dungeons to progress through the story. But it was tedious early on and I just didn't like having to redo the dungeons if I screwed up. A link to the past made this a non issue with a map system, all the objectives highlighted on the map, the dungeons like in the original are optional and you can tackle them in any order you see fit. It actually reminds me of a game I played similar to Mario 64. A game called i-ninja which came out about 15 years after the original zelda game. i-ninja is a 3D platformer with the same art style as Mario 64. In fact if you played it, you know it copies what Mario 64 does. You have 5 hub world areas. Each with their missions respectively. But yeah for a Zelda game, this is exactly what I'm looking for. Multiple stages and levels you can tackle in any order you see fit and optional quests. I haven't played Ocorina of time yet. But from what I hear, it's easily the best Zelda game. I should probably play that. Can't wait to see you're next video. Keep up the good work man.

  • @DoctorNovakaine
    @DoctorNovakaine 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Definitely feel like a walkthrough makes the experience of this game better. Groundbreaking as it was, it's also maddeningly obtuse at times. I'm going to compare it to Castlevania 2 in this regard - the raw gameplay is quite fun, but figuring out what to do and where to go is way more frustrating than it needs to be, to say nothing of the secrets. If you take the obtuseness out of it by giving yourself an idea where the key things are and how to get around the trouble spots, you basically remove the main barriers to enjoying the game as it is.
    Zelda 2 is pretty similar in my book, though it's also a significantly more difficult game gameplay-wise - still fun, but very challenging. Link's Awakening and Link To The Past are markedly easier to figure out and the secrets are a lot less random and obscure. The benefit of experience and advancement, to be sure.

    In the Japanese version you shout into the microphone to remove the Pols Voice. After you kill 9 enemies without taking damage, kill the 10th with bombs to get more bombs. Take damage and you have to start over. You should do a walkthrough of the second quest and also do worlds A through D of Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.

    My favorite Zelda-inspired game is Daikatana on the Game Boy Color; how often is the Game Boy Color version of the game the definitive version? To my knowledge, just that and Quest 64 (which is called "Quest: Brian's Journey" instead).

  • @hoodedman6579
    @hoodedman6579 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Always pick the middle rupee if you play the money making game; people have tested it and it seems to be the one with the best returns. They didn't really have conclusive proof but it's better than nothing. Also remember that you can save before playing it and then load if you lose money (press Up and A on controller 2 to instantly game over yourself to save), so you can get as much money as you want through it fairly easily, it can just be a little tedious. This is best done with the game right next to the start of the game so saving and loading is much faster.

    At the risk of sounding like an old lady, the newer Zelda games really cannot touch this one.
    I was just a kid when this game came out and my family rented it frequently. I don't think kids of today will ever really know the feeling of getting lost in Hyrule, grabbing your school notebook and drawing out your own map and keeping your own pen and paper journal of your adventure. Making your own notes in a spiral notebook like you were forensics detective, swapping notes with friends at school on the playground or at lunch, going home, following leads, tracking down clues.
    Nowadays if you have a question about a game you just google a walkthrough or watch someone on youtube play the game and show you how to do it.
    These days games hold your hand a little or a lot, they show you everything and only a few things are kept secret but again these secrets ain't so secret cause you can google them easily.
    Don't get me wrong, I'm not against modernizing and hand holding to some extent I just think that with our push into the future some things have become lost. Maybe I just miss my childhood. XD

    "10th enemy has the bomb" actually refers to how, if you kill 10 enemies without being hit, and then kill the tenth enemy with a bomb, they'll drop more bombs, though only if they can drop items in the first place (though it works even if the enemy can't naturally drop bombs). You get a fairy if the final kill isn't with a bomb, and, for some reason, hitting Manhandla with a bomb will count as more than ten kills by himself so he will nearly always drop a bomb.
    It's a very weird hint, there's no real way to tell the specifics just from the in-game hint at all, and the Japanese version of the hint wasn't that at all.
