Hey everyone watching this in 2019! I have taken all your comments into consideration and will work on updating this recipe for you. You can skip the grating part and just use a mesh strainer/sieve or just add it to a food processor. If you're adding it to the food processor, then just crumble up the mixture instead of forming it into a ball. Hope this is helpful! Happy Diwali everyone. Wishing you love, light and prosperity.
I saw alot of comments telling you how to do it better, but I think some people don't understand not everyone may own a food processor or a fine sieve or can afford wax paper to line a dish, so using the grater was very good information. The easiest cost free way to deal with the sticking to the dish is to put it on the refrigerator a bit. Drys it up and it unsticks. I think your recipe is perfect as is.
This was a really good tutorial. A little suggestion ... line your dish with parchment or wax before setting the barfi. Then you can just lift the whole thing out. Can;t wait to try this. Thanks!
This is by far the best barfi video i have seen and trust meh...ah see plennntyyyy! Its easier and not too time consuming...plus it doesn't crumb up and look rough... i love it😍👍
+Vincent2wice Wow, well let me know how it turns out! A little tip: When you add it to the pot, keep stirring on low heat. Also, have a glass of room temperature water next to you and every few mins, take some of the milk from the pan and put into the water. If it dissolves, then it's not ready; if it keeps its shape and stays together, then turn it off and place into your dish (you can oil it to make things easier). I think this batch of barfi I did for the video was a little bit over cooked so do the water test and it will turn out perfect!
Wow I always taught it was hard to make this , you made it so easy, I think even I can make this , thank you 💕😊🌹, love this recipe, it's so simple, looking forward for more of your recipe, have a safe bless day and take care,
I did this method today, first time making it I adjusted the recipe a bit as I didn’t want leftover creme so I did 4c milk…. Came out perfect thanks for sharing
Hey I made both your kurma and barfi recipes for Divali, thank you very much for your videos you made it so easy to do. The kurma was perfect, i would like to say I am not good with averaging at all and the 3/4 can average i found a challenge (in retrospect i should have converted the grams of the tin and figure out the measurement in cups) i added too much cream, the only thing that would have made it easier was if i knew in cups preferably exactly how much to use and not just average and add too much. Nevertheless the taste was great, some ppl said it was one of the best barfi's they ever tasted. You will always be my go to person for Indian sweets, and cant wait to check out all your videos. Thanks so much good luck to you.
+Sacha Ali Wow! That's amazing! Really glad you tried it and it came out good. 1/4 cup of cream is perfect for 3 cups of milk. Try it with that and let me know. Thanks again for checking out my videos! Really happy to hear your sweets were a success!
Hi Natasha a small tip to getting the yellow stain on your greater pour bleach on the stain then soak the greater in boiling water it will get off hope this is helpful
I tried this recipe last year, it came out great. I'm doing it again this year but doubling up the ingredients as many has requested a taste of my barfi😅❤
I must congratulate you for your patience. Great job ,anyone could easily follow your recipes, you make it look so easy. I will surely try. Thank you so much.
Hi what I'd like to know is did the barfi actually get hard or was it still a bit chewy? It would have been great if you crumbled the piece so we could see the consistency but never mind that I love your vids you seem to be pretty down to earth. Keep it up! Do you have any simple paneer recipes I've never eaten it and would like to try but don't want to buy a pack in the grocery and then dump it.
My mother brought back some from Guyana last week and we've been on a feeding frenzy devouring it. Now I'm gonna make it myself.... Thanks. Just for clarification. Was that confectioners sugar you used or white grain sugar?
u cook veryy good an explains veryy well i understand an learn alot frm ur channel keep up the great work an also would like if u gud do a video for ladoo thanks
if you chuck the grating part... just mix all ingredients and add to sugar syrup, it gives the same result... the grating part just looks too hectic... but overall looks good
Here's my recipe. 2 cups of Dhal besan (ground dhal) water as needed oil to deep fry 2 tbsp condense milk laichee powder to taste hardi powder for colour 2 tbsp ghee 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup water 1 teaspoon ground ginger (fresh) make the base: so you mix the dhal besan with some hardi powder to give it the colour (or add food colour). and add the water and make a pouring consistency batter. heat the oil in a pot and take one jharna and one strainer. pass the dhal batter through the jharna and let it drip in the hot oil. let it just fry in the oil till it just gets cooked and take it out with the strainer ground the mixture; using a processor or a mill, ground the fried drops of dhal into a fine mix, like cream of wheat. add ghee, condense milk, ginger and laichee. mix into a crumble make the paag; 1/2 cup water in a pot with sugar. bring to a thick, 1 string consistency and pour in the dhal mix, mix with a spoon and let the dhal absorb the paag for 5 minutes. shape the ladoos: grab a handful and shape into a ball. let cool in the fridge and serve.
+Ryan Harripersad Hope it turns out good. Let me know! A little tip: When you add it to the pot, keep stirring on low heat. Hi great vid....my daughter always wanted this but I never knew how to make it ....thought it was difficult to make... With your help I made it today....thank you so much
+Kayanna Gonzales Yes, or until it starts to clump together. Have a glass of room temperature water on hand and as it starts clumping together, put a little bit of it in the glass and if it stays together then it's done. However, if it dissolves in the water, then it needs to cook for a little longer. Hope this was helpful!
Ohh sorry, when you asked, I figured you didn't live in Trini. You can find it in almost every single grocery store. Check the aisle with condensed milk and stuff

Thanks for understanding, my dear! Wishing you a happy, holy Divali! ❤
I love the grater technique
yes
Made some today and it was delicious! After reading some of the comments I didn’t shift the milk powder or grate it and it still came out great!
This was a really good tutorial. A little suggestion ... line your dish with parchment or wax before setting the barfi. Then you can just lift the whole thing out. Can;t wait to try this. Thanks!
Will do, thanks for the tip! Thanks for watching!

I haven't had one of these since trinidad which was about 15 years ago.

My mother brought back some from Guyana last week and we've been on a feeding frenzy devouring it. Now I'm gonna make it myself.... Thanks. Just for clarification. Was that confectioners sugar you used or white grain sugar?

Hello, I enjoyed recipe. What size is your baking dish?
excellent idea to grate the mixture instead of sifting it :)
Instead of grating or sifting, put it in a food processor with a 's' blade. It's much faster and works great
I'm 🇺🇸 I'd like to try Barfi How does it taste? & I never been to 🇹🇹 in my life
Hi taste of trini can u plz do a ladoo recipe as divali is approaching ive been looking 4 the perfect 1 and hav not found it yet
Hi wendy from oropouche i will try this i enjoy your videos tks
hey loved your video. quick question...instead of that heavy cream or that cream u had in the tin can i use condence milk?
Hey, no, use heavy cream/whipping cream in place of that.
my darling looking forward to make your recipe with my daughter
easy to follow looks good thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching..glad you like
I love it
Lovely! You made the perfect burfi.
Hi, as soon as I saw barfi I subscribed immediately. Can you do a vid about ladoo!? Thanks!
+Naiomie M Thanks for subscribing! I will definitely try to do Ladoo for you!
I have a question. Do you leave on the stove while stirring the mixture?
thanks..... its very simple, tho i've never noticed the cream u used, gonna try this can u tell me where u got the cream?
Hey! The cream is Nestlé heavy cream/table cream. You can find it at Walmart. Regular heavy or whipping cream can be used as well.
if you chuck the grating part... just mix all ingredients and add to sugar syrup, it gives the same result... the grating part just looks too hectic... but overall looks good
Will do, I have to definitely update this recipe :)
If i want to use 4 cup how much water an sugar to use
I don’t have fresh ginger... can I use ginger powder?
Best recipie
thank u...great idea to grate ...many thanks
Hi Reshmi. How long can you keep barfi before it spoils? Out of the fridge
Hey, I would keep it 1 day out of the fridge and 3 inside.
can you use a food processor instead of the grater?
+justdreadest Of course!
Your barfi recipe is interesting. I have been making barfi over 30 years but my method is very different.
Maybe you could share your recipe.....
Can u share you recipe.thanks
This is how we make it too, cook it up a bit in the pot, but we use a food processor to get it fine.
Wow that looks wonderful 👍✌💙
Wonderful vid............ definitely gonna try this!!!!
Also don't worry about those stupid illiterate haters eh..............
What brand and type milk did you use
Resh do you have a katchorie receipe
Hi,
I tried barfi today but from another recipe. It came out soggy and runny. Is there a way to correct this?
Hey, sorry to hear that. I usually cook it for a few minutes and it pulls together.
What can I substitute for the creama
Hi, can you post a recipe for ladoo? i have made many times and if you want the recipe, i can share it with you.
+Navin Singh Thanks, I have a recipe but you can send me yours as well!
Here's my recipe.
2 cups of Dhal besan (ground dhal)
water as needed
oil to deep fry
2 tbsp condense milk
laichee powder to taste
hardi powder for colour
2 tbsp ghee
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon ground ginger (fresh)
make the base:
so you mix the dhal besan with some hardi powder to give it the colour (or add food colour).
and add the water and make a pouring consistency batter.
heat the oil in a pot and take one jharna and one strainer.
pass the dhal batter through the jharna and let it drip in the hot oil.
let it just fry in the oil till it just gets cooked and take it out with the strainer
ground the mixture;
using a processor or a mill, ground the fried drops of dhal into a fine mix, like cream of wheat. add ghee, condense milk, ginger and laichee. mix into a crumble
make the paag;
1/2 cup water in a pot with sugar. bring to a thick, 1 string consistency and pour in the dhal mix, mix with a spoon and let the dhal absorb the paag for 5 minutes.
shape the ladoos: grab a handful and shape into a ball. let cool in the fridge and serve.
can't wait for the video!
Perfect! Thank u!
+adanna o'brady No problem! Thanks for watching!

+Deborah Lopez Glad you like it!

+sarah bissoon No problem. Working on that!
Can I use anchor butter
do you have to grease the baking dish????
No not necessarily but it will be easier when you have to take the barfis out
i going and try a thing later yes
+Ryan Harripersad Hope it turns out good. Let me know!
A little tip: When you add it to the pot, keep stirring on low heat.
+Taste of Trini thanks :) also shubh divali

Omg you did this the hard way boi ...... food processor is the way now ah days
The grater was an excellent idea...not very one has a food processor....
Squeeze and strain ginger juice into paagg , the flavor is all you need … it’s better than biting ginger strings under your teeth
Yes true! I like tasting pieces in the barfi but I know not everyone likes it
hi excellent cook
cud we use condensed milk in place of d cream

+Kayanna Gonzales Yes, or until it starts to clump together. Have a glass of room temperature water on hand and as it starts clumping together, put a little bit of it in the glass and if it stays together then it's done. However, if it dissolves in the water, then it needs to cook for a little longer. Hope this was helpful!

I would imagine all your pots are shining as the day you bought them from the store, am I right?... Hummm, no wonder I did not see any videos posted from you. Just hate it when you people critique trivial things and can't do any better.

A well seasoned pot is a well seasoned cook @@MrCaribbeanking
dats not barfi...its too wet..ya betta rename it milk fudge...
My goodness, your accent is heavenly! Never before have I been so interested in trini cuisine! The sweets we have in England are [really] quite boring and unappealing, but yours seem like luxury; I also watched your coconut fudge type thing recipe and Im going to make it for my family at my nannys birthday!! Keep it up and greetings from England! 😁💜
+Taste of Trini
