      +ihartevil some people get really anxious to call a hotline and some don't want their families or other bystanders to hear anything so they use a text line. and since it's through text and not call you can text them no matter where you are even if you are in public.

    Texting is such a great idea. I find talking over the phone (or everyday situations) very difficult. I can really say whatever I want via typing but talking I'm very shy, quite & uncomfortable. I also tend to mumble and stutter when talking cos I'm embarrassed.

    Talking on the phone gives me a lot of anxiety, especially because I often cry and hate crying in front of people. I would have really benefitted from this a few times in my life. It would have been nice to text instead of harming myself. Thank you so much for this.

    So helpful! I needed this 10 years ago. I was never comfortable speaking to people and tried a couple online chats similar to this, but they were often offline or had a very long wait, which is pointless in a crisis. This is great for folks that struggle to effectively communicate like myself.

      Stephanie is correct. I would use this service again in a heartbeat. The first conversation went amazingly and I got the support I needed. I really chalk it up to I got to converse with a male. The 2nd two were female. The 2nd convo went ok. The 3rd I ended because they didn't respond after 10 min (right after threatening to cut off the conversation when I didn't respond in 3 minutes). I was irate.

    I thought this nice lady, Meghan was a robot yesterday. It wasn't until she added an extra "a" to the chat and apologized. I would have never noticed and it gave me a laugh. She also messaged me for three hours and it was my first time using the line. I was so thankful for that, especially when I went to use it again today and I didn't reply for a minute and fifteen seconds maybe and some lady ended the chat on me. But even before that, she seemed to rush me to get to the points and I was like, I don't even know, I came to you for advice?? How are you asking me what advice I want?
    But: Meghan, if you see this somehow, thank you! :)

    • @doggie15rat
      @doggie15rat 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Franki Kootcher they talk about this in the video! It's anything that "feels" like a crisis to you! It can be anything, not just suicidal thoughts/actions.

    • @urltima
      @urltima 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Franki Kootcher I think any situation where you feel extremely anxious, lost, depressed. Anything that makes you feel like you really need someone educated and knowledgeable to talk to you about what your next step is to take to help your mental health. Doesn't have to be suicide. I'm texting them because I've been having a depressive episode for several days now and it's affecting my work and home life. Not a huge dangerous situation. But it's a place I feel is a crisis.

    i sometimes feel like with the crisis text line, it is one of the only places where we are guaranteed confientiality completely unless you are danger to yuorself or others. in america i think the american therapy system is screwed up completely because therapy is should be a place where you should talk about anything, but with these limits to confidentiality, it can actually scare people to tell a therapist anything. here at the crisis text line, I can say anything whatever is bothierng me and I am not judged at all and I am at ease to say whatever is really botheinrg me. To me, the therapy system is really more messed up and strict, wheras other countries therapy systems, theyre only break it for danger to self or others. I am happy crisis text line exists, because it is really my safest place to express my dark thoughts and secrets.

    This is such a cool resource! Wish this had existed when I was like 16, I could have really used something like this. I live in the UK, so not available to me just yet but I'm curious as to how much you would get to know about the person who you're texting? I find crisis lines a little impersonal sometimes and they haven't been much help to me in the past when I've called them, because I often feel like I have to know who I'm talking to in order for it to be of any use. And if you spoke to one person who was really helpful would you be able to talk to the same person again, or would it just be assigned at random from an anonymous body of people?
    Thankfully my crises are much more rare than they used to be, as well as me being far more comfortable seeking help from the people around me and voicing my problems when they arise, so I'm not sure this would be a service that I personally would need any more, but these are questions that I would have wanted to know the answer to before texting in, so maybe this might also be useful information for others?
    Thank you so much for another great video Kati xx

    I'm a mental health crisis intervention specialist. We give this out to our clients along with our local crisis line . We see a lot of people in the hospital who have either attempted suicide or are experiencing severe mental health symptoms. Texting is a great idea and it does help, but don't be fooled, if you're acting shady, we can track you down and call out the police to place you on an involuntary petition.

      Kati Morton excuse me while I pick my jaw off of the floor. Never in a million years would I ever think that I would get a response. Haha now I'm completely caught off guard and I'm not sure what to say. Is there a way I could contact you by email? I promise not to take up much of your time.

    I've tried using this but the messages really seem robotic. The responses I got were generic and could be seen on suicide prevention posters. Didn't seem like I was talking to an actual person, only responses I got were, "You're strong for contacting us!" even when I asked for their opinion and if they went through similar things.
