I LOVE platinum halfbeaks. I love their attitudes too! 😂😂 I hate how I couldn’t breed them. I can’t wait until you sell them! They are great guppy control too. That’s why I bought them. Robert gave me some suggestions. He showed me the half beaks and I was instantly in love.

those black chins in a tank with costae tetras.... would look sweet. pair em up with some black bared cories like ln9 or melini, would be such an interesting tank. Lately I've been really digging the silvers, its such an underrated colour and indeed pops with a good scape and lighting.

I have a feeling the behaviour is more to do with the size of the fish than it has to do with any genetics. I've always found that the smaller guppies and such in my livebearer tanks are normally less confident than say a large female of the same species

    • @ert-wert

I've injected all my fish. Its not genetic so the offspring unfortunately don't aquire any of the attributes. But it is a great way to satisfy our top of the food chain control everything around us dominance in keeping our scaley inferior living creatures in glass jailhouses

You know, I've had hard water for most of my time in the hobby, like 18 dGH and 15 dKH out of the tap, and I've never had trouble keeping any type of fish. Now obviously, if I was trying to breed them it might be a different story, but people go on about Sundadanio and Microdevario needing soft water and I've just never seen it. My experience is that soft water fish can always adapt to hard water but hard water fish will often struggle in soft water. Again, breeding is a bit of a different story, but there's a guy in Utah that's breeding Discus in 7.8-8.0 tap water, hard enough to walk on. He sells them through The Waterfront in Murray

At 7:39, Cory mentioned a scenario which hit me as well. About 20 years back, only with rare poultry. I used to specialize in exotic/endangered breeds and rare color varieties of more common breeds. Had a flock of White LaFleche true Bantams. Sold them off to specialize in some other breeds at the time, assuming I could get back into them at a later date. They eventually seemingly vanished completely from North America. I have yet to find another White LaFleche true Bantam in about 12 years of searching.
When Cory mentioned this scenario in the video, it hurt my soul. I know exactly what it feels like and I am SO glad he was able to find the species again even if it wasn't the same quality he once worked with. My search will always continue for those true bantam White LaFleche.

Beware platinum halfbeaks they're mini great whites and will voraciously attack and eat fish fry. They also grow fat and relatively big very quickly. I have them in outdoor tanks and they've become a nusance fish, difficult to catch and remove, expert at avoiding nets and seeking cover.

Lol Corey, on the water. I'm in Ohio and keep all my tanks at 7.2 without water changes by cycling botanicals or just wood and cholla lol. Hard water is so much easier in my opinion, at least when you have a lot of buffer.

My pH is doing my nut in when I got my first tank in 2014 my pH from the tap was always 7.2 then over time when to 7.5 last year up to 7.8 and today its 8.3 that's to high for my fish it's really nippy seen as I like doing 50% water changes each week so iv had to start adding a pH down buffer it's shit as the pH keeps geting harder here they must add something to the water ill need to start putting aqua soil more wood and katapa leaves in the tanks I don't like altering pH with chemicals better doing it the natural way
