    VW is the owner of the Audi so that explains the filter. Nice video man, I got my 2020 so this was very useful.

    I'm with you. No way I would go 10k mi on initial factory fill oil. Viscosity-wise it's probably still fine at 10k mi, but high wear metals from the engine breaking in would be too much for me to stomach circulating around in there that long. Good job!

    According to FCPeuros video the specific 508 grade has to do with the ‘Miller cycle’ closing the intake valve early for complete combustion for fuel efficiency. Was tough to find 508 day of changing my gfs oil. Got Mobil1 ESP X2.

    VW 508 spec oil is hard to find at retail. Advance Auto, NAPA & O'Reilly's near me had nothing available. Neither did the local Walmart.
    Auto Zone had some Mobil 1 ESP X2 that met the spec, but only 3 quarts on the shelf.

    Looks identical to the paper filter that’s in the b6 Passat. I buy the fram one and when I open it up it’s stamped with the same oem marks.

    I've owned 3 VWs. 2008 and 2013 Jettas and a 2020 Tiguan. 10K miles between changes is fine... don't worry about it. I do 10K - 15K. The 2008 had 320K miles on it when I sold it. The 2013 has 175K miles on it. No engine issues AT ALL.

    I just did mine cost me about 100$ for everything you have and I just did mine at 3600 miles on my 2022 Tiguan. That plug is kinda a bitch to take out small flat head/ over all rest was pretty easy make sure you get the filter from the dealer!

  • @MPBrewster
    @MPBrewster 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thank you for being adamant about the 508 spec. Anything other than that oil can have consequences. I changed mine yesterday and was surprised that 6 quarts left the dipstick at the half way point; I really needed 6.4 or so. Maybe 6 liters would have been just right, I notice that your bottles are one liter and not one quart. 6 liters is about 5.4 ounces more than 6 quarts and that would have raised the level a bit. Also, both you and I did the change on ramps which tilts the engine. Maybe more oil comes out with the front of the car elevated as opposed to a VW service on a flat lift. That may account for the level shortfall. I was surprised to see how black the old oil was on my car after 4000 miles and one year. I think I'll keep that interval and not go with the extended VW suggestion, more along the lines of "severe service". Sure is an awesome car, absolutely love it. By the way, the tendency is to use too big a screwdriver for the drain plug. It's best to use a smaller one (0.250 tip) that will fit all the way inside and to the back of the plug; zero damage.

      I'm pretty annoyed. It's definitely at the half way point with 6 quarts. The first 2 free oil changes at the dealer were also at the half way mark both times. Did my own on the 3rd one I would have had to pay for. The dealer also said 6 quarts but I agree with you it's probably 6 litres. Tempted to put more in but after 8,000 miles it was just still just a little below the half way point so not too much loss.

    At 2:32 you mention that the filter has an Audi symbol on it and "you don't know what that's all about". I can't tell if that's sarcasm or you don't really know. In case you don't really know, Audi is part of Volkswagen AG (VAG). VAG also includes SEAT, SKODA, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ducati, Scania and MAN. Thanks for the video. I just got a new to me 2018 Audi A3 and ran into the same issues with online sites saying my car needs the 40 weight oil. The sticker under the hood says VW 508 spec is required.

  • @sandyshoremann7524

    VW 508 00 is a real synthetic, unlike the stuff most majors sell for most of the U.S. market. I have an oil change coming up on my 2019 VW Jetta 1.4 tsi Also at about 8 months 4800 miles. The oil life monitor went off which surprised me since the manual states 1 year 10K miles. You little VW engine makes a lot of power and torque with the turbo so it requires more oil capacity for cooling and lubrication. Enjoy! hope she runs well!

      That's really bad for the environment. All car companies are specing out oil for at least 10k intervals; with the new synthetics and filters, that's perfectly safe. Do NOT change more frequently and pollute, even with recycling.
