    Great Job!
    If you brown the meat in the pan before adding your other stew ingredients, it adds additional flavor to the stew. I've done it both ways. though.
    Thanks for the video response.

    You don't have to cook it on the stove for 10 minutes, or 5. Pour boiling water in the thermos, pour out, pour in the soup as soon as it has started to boil in the pot. It's going to stay way above cooking temp for several hours and be cooked when you're ready.

      @daphnelhunt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do it that way with success. However, if there is meat in the dish, you want it at a high enough temperature. Like he said in the vid, five minutes is all it needs.

    Great videos. The only suggestion I have is that next time, don't dump your preheat water down the drain, u could use it to wash your hands since it's warm, or let it cool and give it to the dogs or water a plant with it. what energy you saved cooking, you poured down the drain as warm water. Water AND energy conservation!! Luv Mom :)

    Next time, coat your meat w/ flour, brown and then add. It will help thicken the stew and add a nice flavor w/ the seared meat.

    You should get a wide mouth thermos. After watching your videos I found one on amazon for $36 and bought it. Its called Thermos Nissan 48-Ounce Wide Mouth. I think the wide mouth would make it easier for cooking in.

    Great video man. You should add a tablespoon of flour or cornstarch to thicken the liquid into a gravy.

    it was great! it was even greater knowing that all it cost for energy consumption was some hot water and time. its really my kind of lazt cooking. heat ingerdients,put in thermos, go away, come back,eat,nap!

  • @bctruck
    @bctruck  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @lunarrn i can barely find the light switch in the kitchen but next time i make the stew ill try adding flour or cornstarch. it would be nice to have the broth thicker.

  • @daphnelhunt

    This is the first vid I have watched that involved meat in the recipe. I take it the meat was tender so that worked out well. I'm not sure how thickener to make the water more gravy like would affect the cooking. I sometimes use a wide mouth thermos to make rice and (pre-soaked overnight) beans with good success. The wide mouth is great as it is easy to spoon in and out.

    Hey there BC. Most of my meals are cooked with a thermos. I'd brown the meat first.. Then also understand that a thermos is a pressure cooker.. If you don't allow the pressure to dissipate over a few hours, you might have a small controlled explosion only if you fill it up too much.. Blessings!

    • @-danR
      @-danR 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, it starts to _lose_ pressure within seconds of sealing. Even a thermos loses a tiny amount of heat continuously, and the vapor-pressure is lowered as a consequence.

    • @MarionRobinsonIV

      Man, I wish it would've happend that way instead of me losing my stew all over the place lol :)

    @SasyBecause hi! thanks for your input. ive really begun to explore the different ways i can cut my electricity consumption. im only turning my water heater on for about an hour a day. that gives me all the hot water i need for the whole day.ive shut my central air off and im using a window unit in the room mywife and i use the most. weve mangaed to cut our killawatt hour usage by more than half.now im experimenting with ways to cut back on cooking expenses since that is 3rd or 4rth on the list.

    @TheHomesteadGal a book? it would be a short book. its been fun playing around with the thermos cooking. the onlty one i can see myself doing often is the stew.i got an amazing story about stanley thermos. ill tell you about it on the " what did you do to prep last week"

  • @bctruck
    @bctruck  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @calitrucker1 i really ate it all to. yes its like pre heating the ove. if you dont,when you pour in the boiling water,the thermos absorbs and loses to much heta for the initial warm up. i just pour hot tap water in there then dumo it when im ready to put in the good stuff. thermos oven,,,,,thermoven?

    Awesome BC. One suggestion take the beef broth and make a gravy for the stew instead of straight broth

    • @lindasue8719
      @lindasue8719 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting idea! Maybe one could add a little flour or corn starch to the thermos as well and it would become more gravy-like.

    I found I can cook alot of my things in the oven with about 2/3rds of the actual cooking time if I just shut it off and leave it. Most the time I use the roaster and cook multiple meals but I like this idea means I would have to get a good thermos but looks worth the cost

    It's sort of a haybox cooker and it's just as good as an expensive thermo-cooker but it's not as compact.
    Anyway I'm kind of lucky. It was only 89 bucks when I bought mine.

  • @vention4wh
    @vention4wh 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @bctruck
    Ya but I'd buy one again even at this price because of how useful it would be in a shtf situation. In a no utilities situation, the ability to cook a stew or beans with just 5 or 6 minutes of propane or gasoline. That's just too useful for me to say no to.
    Still if you get a good cooking pot you can buy those slabs of Styrofoam at a home center and layer them up and glue them together then cut out hole that's shaped like your pot. Then cut a few more for the top and put it in a box.

  • @bctruck
    @bctruck  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @thayne559 it would have definately been easier to get the syew out of the thermos. so far the stew is the only thing that would have been better in a wide mouth.

  • @bctruck
    @bctruck  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @vention4wh im definately gonna keep watching ebay. the thermos bottle did its job but getting the food to come out was a little diffacult. oh! heres something cool. in one vid i did a side by side comparison with a stanley and my nissan thermos. the stanley failed miserably. i sent a link to the vid to stanley and they pm,ed me wanting my address. this morning they said they are mailing me a brand new 2 quart thermos and want me to do the vid again. cooooool!!!!!! they said 2-3 weeks
