That was great! Great energy and fuel conservation technique to cook food. This would definitely be beneficial in an emergency situation. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Really good tip. We could have used that when Dad was working and took a thermos with him everyday. He would have loved knowing his soup was cooking while he worked. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
Eeks, all that water: more precious than gold! Use it for washing up water, or let it cool right down and water the planrs/garden. Potato soup is my favourite!
That soup looks good! Thermos cooking sounds good not just for power conservation, but this sounds perfect for a road trip! Instead of plain sandwiches or fast food you can have a real meal on the go.
In the future if you put too much salt in it you could add some more potatoes and if you didn't have time for them to cook you could also add potato flakes. I get mine from the LDS cannery by the huge box. The potato flakes will thicken up the soup so you may need to add some extra water which will help thin out the salt as well. I just love your videos because they are true prepping videos for the average person on a limited budget. Thanks for sharing.
I heard when the liquids in the thermos touch the plastic stopper it causes the stopper to wick heat out of the thermos. Meaning laying the thermos on its side cools the liquids faster. So it is better to have the thermos standing, and not overfill the thermos.
Good technique now I'm going to have to snack in the middle of the night! Its hard to see all the heat thats waisted with electric stoves and ovens too for that matter. On another note congrats on the scroll saw ... I like to use spiral blades so you can cut in all directions. I look forward to seeing what you make with that
Good summer-time cooking method, too--helps keep the house cooler by not having the stove-top running all day. That salt comes out of the spout pretty fast, huh? :)
Bet that would work well for the cauliflower soup I made. That style of cooking is like back in the 1800's when they did the hay boxes and thermal cooking. I'm going to put this on my "educational" list to teach my kids. Something they may need to use someday. How are the girls and the new puppy?
Wow, that's really cool and a technique I never heard of or saw before. I could make a thermos full, put it in my backpack and go to work and have it for lunch or dinner.
I do the same thing in a pressure cooker. Power on for 10 minutes, power off and let it sit for 1 or 2 hours under pressure. Good for all soups and stews.
Very awesome BC. I had watched an Australian RV video some time back and they were using something called a thermal cooker. They did just what you did here. It never crossed my mind to try it with a lesser insulated thermos bottles and then insulate them more so. Is this your original idea or did you come across it somewhere?
very cool. Useful for but only a shtf situation but you could easily who that up before work and have a hot dinner waiting for you when you get home too.
the big stanley was free. i did a video about a year ago and the old stanley thermos was no comparison to the nissan. i sent them the video and they sent me a brand new thermos.
Thanks again for an awesome vid buddy! I have never used a thermos for anything other than Balleys and coffee.,..Well that's not entirely true,..I made some tea and brandy in one once.
.......thanx for sharing........you can get wide mouth thermos jars fpr cooking on amazon or probably some other retailers........just sayin'........🙋♀️.......('bet that soup tasted good!)
I have the same 2 qt Stanley and the Stainless Steel Thermos you show. Which one do you think/know is better insulated? I have seldom used the Thermos.
Thanks I never knew potato soup would be that easy to make sir. Have a good day.
BC, I have learned so many useful skills from watching you. Thanks for what you do. Patrick

Is that a 22 cal. pistol over by the crockpot?
one of the reasons i did this is because the ham i had was so salty,,,, then i went and added salt!
im gonna cook this again but im gonna add a lot more ham and less salt.
yummy!
nope! i was suprised they were just like you would cook them on the stove.
boy did i go crazy with the salt! if that wasnt bad enough, the ham was already salty. next time i wont use any. i just ate the last bowl of it.
