Good shit. Sounds like an awesome trip. So fun to go go to a shop for the first time in another city/country.
What a trip. Followed and watched on the last video but forgot to comment. Great grabs and the MOB "Vs" is an essential record. Have to have the Sandy Bull and the cleaner the better. He's a favorite. Nice grab on the Joel Andrews too, that is on my list to buy from Discogs anyway. Very enjoyable sir
Nice to find your channel especially as you appear to be like myself another ex-pat in the USA. Had many a fine shopping expedition in San Fran when we lived near California (ironically I am in Palm Springs for two weeks right now). We now live in Richmond, Texas near Houston and there are several good record stores there. Also nice to see a digging channel that is not like many others that seem to concentrate on mainstream Rock music (way too many of those).
I did stop off at The In-Groove in Phoenix on the way to California this time and found a very nice copy of a Jazz Funk album I have been trying to find in decent condition to replace my copy that was never returned!
Suleyman the Magnificent. Very cool find. I picked up Omar Faruk Tekbilek’s cd Whirling based on Carm’s recommendation. Also on Celestial Harmonies. Fantastic stuff.

Good grabs James! I think you were right to go for quantity on this trip. When cheap US stuff is still gonna cost you loads to ship down to NZ, better to grab as many as you can fit in your lap on the plane home! John Carter Octet, Hamza El Din and Allman Bros are all classics in my eyes. Where Fortune Smiles and Violet Flame are both new to me, so I’ll check those out. I’ve been enjoying seeing what you’ve found, and I can’t wait for the next installment! Let me know how you liked those VCLT records!
it just occured to me how geographically obscure it is that both you and i, being on opposite sides of the globe, have met tom in PDX which is also halfway round the world for both of us basically.

I my check out that Kip Hanrahan record. I sampled the tracks via Discogs and it does sound interesting to me; No Wave and Latin sounds would probably be in my wheelhouse. I'll see if I can track down a copy. I did see some women's world cup matches in Portland in the early 2000s. I remember being floored at how bad the quality of play was, and haven't watched women's soccer since then. I used to be a Portland Timbers season-ticket holder and an older guy who sat behind me asked if went to the Portland Thorns matches (women's team under same ownership as the Timbers). I said no and he asked why not. I asked if he regularly attended Special Olympics soccer matches. He said no. I explained that women's soccer is similar to the Special Olympics in that it is a lowering of standards to allow a certain group of people to be able to participate, and that it wasn't a bad thing, but it was still inferior to what I personally prefer to watch. It is not the best humans who can perform a task; it is less-than. This was pregame at a Timbers match while the stands had yet to fill. A women several rows away had been listening and her head pretty much exploded. Fun times. 🤣

You are at a distinct advantage where you live showing NZ things no one else shows, probably isolates you too especially as you don't seem particularly English in outlook. Here we do mostly interact. Not blaming you for not replying at all as that's entirely free will up to you especially as I have far less comments to answer.

Hello James, thanks for the "housekeeping" part of your video. We can understand that you don't always respond to comments and it is important to get it. "Now we know". Great " packaging " for the channel by the way. I went to USA this year as well (NYC) and manage to get only one OJC. Not so cheap. There were inexpensive CTI original records as well (around 10$). You always show new things and obscure artists you wanted to get " for a long time". Does it mean that you take time streaming music ? Not so simple when you have a big collection... Take care. Bruno
Thanks for the comment! Yes I spend lots of time listening to streaming while I work. I work from home so I can play music all day. I discover lots of things through streaming and eventually buy them on vinyl!
Man, so happy to see Grooveyard is still at it and up to its usual tricks! I moved away from the Bay Area a 5+ years ago, and Grooveyard was absolutely my favorite place to dig. And to your point--there was really amazing stuff there ten years ago, but it looks like you got some killer records as well, like that John Carter!

Glad your record digging in the States proved fruitful. One solution to having so many records to show, should have bought that Germs record. Less moolah for other records means less records to show. Gotta agree with you on the Kip Hanrahan, very cool record. I got rid of his 2nd album, less no wave with an emphasis on the Latin element. You might still dig it, but be forewarned.
So strange that that Dex album was something you were aware of and wanted early on. Of all the records

love the carter and the sandy bull. grooveyard is run by Rick Ballard, legendary importer, every jazz collector in the US is likely to have one of his stickers on a record. I found a copy of that surman record recently but it was not for me, a bit noodly. maybe.
Can now say I am a proud owner of a few Rick Ballard stickers myself!
Make a section called “I can’t believe it’s not butter” where you have buyers remorse.

If you wish to improve there must be many things one can do. But the two best are enthusiasm and hard work. For the latter - preparation is key. In my opinion these are, somewhat sadly, even more important than content. (You have for sure hit the head on the nail with that logo.) Now: you tell us all about my logo!!
