Love your videos...i want a classic from steve and i love your current bow setup . Can you give me precise details to have one build . Im 5'9" at about 28" draw with a recurve but never shot a longbow . Im 58 and want one before i retire . Thanks
For a beginner mid level ASL/nearly ASL that will not break the bank the Bear Montana is a great choice only the bow has micro forward set on the limbs so you can use a universal style of notched locator grip on the bow but I would with the locator try to replicate it. Some people due to the bows shelf often add a 1/2 piece of a cork, some of the stiffer turkey feathers at the proper spot, or they sand the shelf to the proper shape then redo matching the stain for looks and finish for protection on the part they modified. Also, if money is tight, avoid the Amazon sold SAS Pioner because the model has a light curved and an original locator grip so badly made becuse the model forces you becuse of the grip to be gripping too low below the arrow rest giving you hand shock even if gripping properly like a longbow full grip.
the comment starts with "and if so" on my end so Im not sure what the question was. But based on Sara's respone Im guessing it was about what bow to get. She is spot on. Those are both affordable and outstanding bows. remember that those bow weights are meassured at 28 inches of draw and go up or down about 3 pounds per inch eiither way. so if its a 50 pound bow and you draw 27 it will reall ybe 47 pounds. and if you dwar it 29 inches it will really be 53. so important to know your draw length.
@ thanks for the information I checked my actual bow length it is right at 32 inches I went to my local sporting goods store, which I live here in Virginia, which is Green Top sporting goods and I’m really a fan of your channel and to be perfectly honest. You’re the one that’s getting me into shooting a long bow Trad and it really intrigues me is I’m critiquing my ability hunting to get within 15 to 20 yards of shooting the deer .!!!!!
You can have a locator/notched grip on an traditional Longbow, An ASL style, this is how all the longbows bows from Great Plains Traditional Bow Company have is they have a Locator grip on the bow model as standard and would have to ask for a straight grip. This Great Plains Traditional Bow Company, you would have to in email ask for more a Hill style bow if wanted the wider limb design rather then the skinner limb design then the traditional Longbow has similar to needing to in email for a draw under 26 inches ask for a kids longbow or kids recurve models then ask for the bow in X poundage willing to make it up to a 60 pounds bow because the kids models tend to break if past this poundage.
@SamkoTradBow yes they do and are the few who can make hunting weight bows for those under a 25 inch draw like mine. By making the kids models in more ethical hunting weights of 40 pounds on up.
Great video I’m looking into the recurve bows I am at 31 inch draw do they make a recurve for my draw length since you’ve been doing this a lot of years
your draw length will be different with a recurve or a long bow, different mechanics, for instance I draw 28 on my compound but only 26.5 on my recurve. you're using your fingers opposed to a release, right there is atleast an inch if not more, you need to try different length bows I'd start with something around 62 inches and work down if you want a more compact setup.
Great video Jason, can’t beat a northern mist longbow! When you have Steve build you your 47 pounders will you do 64” again or will you try a 66”? Has Steve hinted to you how much longer he plans to build for?
I will do 64s. love them. Steve has not said anything about retiring. Honestly I have not talked to him in person for a few months. need to call him and catch up.
I remember your second classic bow being a Bubinga riser and bamboo cores under Cherry limbs
Thank you. I could not remeber the woods.
I would love to see you take a deer with the DH Mamba recurve!
maybe someday. its an excellent bow.
your current bow is awesome. I drool everytime i see it ! lol
Thank you

I was going to make an offer for the Brackenberry, but sounds like you no longer have it 😢
Enjoy all your vids !!
thanks
this guy is awesome
And if so, what model brand would you recommend? I am very green to the recurve. I’ve shot compound my whole life.
Samick Sage or Black Hunter. Both found at Lancaster Archery. Modest price, great bows to learn and hunt with.
@ thanks for the information. I thought I sent it earlier but plenty of gratitude. Thank you.
