The filter itself did a decent job but the footage looked like it was hunting focus, shifting perspective and very jarring/distracting with crazy jello effect. Maybe this filter is screwing up with your camera’s AF ability.
All of the footage in this video was shot with the filter! What did you think? Would you use one? EDIT: For those asking, the focus-hunting is from the backlighting when the lens flares out, not the filter. I was intentionally shooting with the sun behind to demonstrate the bloom effect. Most auto-focus systems will struggle when pointing into direct sunlight.
That was literally hard to watch! In stills it may have a purpose but, video is not usable. Maybe the backlighting caused it to hunt focus but, it was hard to see the focus breathing without wanting to scream lol
I can't thank you enough not for the mist filter but for the protective/clear one. I'm a wilddlife filmmaker/photographer I get so much nervous changing lenses during our monsoon season (90-100% humidity with constant drizzles) which yiu can easily have "mist" particles on the sensor, let alone dust, when changing lenses.
@@marcromodevivar This is 1.6. It's only partially fixed in digital crop mode, which defeats the point of shooting wide. Canon needs to implement a setting to physically disable IBIS.
Unfortunately, I’ve seen that similar filters can scratch the inside of the cameras. Just not comfortable putting something like that so close to the sensor.
But look… “regular” filters can scratch the front of your lens if u don’t pay attention to 🤷🏻♂️ it’s just about u pay attention enough in what you are doing. Right?
@@mongebruno there is some truth to that, but I saw another review on either this or a similar system and it apparently is the magnet in the filter to hold it on. The reviewer seemed to be taking some care and it was scratching the inside up around the sensor anyway.
I never understood this idea. I suffered with cataracts for ten years and that mist filter does to videos exactly what cataracts did to my vision. I want nothing to do with what reminds me of that world.
Nah that the Canon ibis system. Canon aren’t really good for vlogging. I love canon for stills but for vlogging I get nauseous seeing the background like that.
This is what I was looking for. Can the Sony mount filter be used for Nikon Z or F mount cameras or vice versa? I have multiple cameras with different mounts. It would be costly for me to buy multiple filters. I’m wondering if one of the filters will fit in the other mount.
I've never been a big fan of mist filters cause it's gonna be baked into your footage, there is no way back if you end up not liking your footage. :D I usually just add some glow in davinci resolve in post if I want that dreamy look.
Here's a quick overview for people that don't want to watch the whole video. A magnetic clip in filter placed between your mirrorless mount and sensor. Best use cases explained by me since they were not mentioned in the video: 1. To provide ND or other filtration for lenses that don't have front filter threads such as bulbous fisheye and super wide angle lenses. 2. To provide a cheaper option to square filters or costly large 95mm screw on filters. 3. To provide a form of protection for your sensor if you swap lenses often with a clear filter. 4. For people shooting with specialist modified digital infrared cameras. This is a specialist use case filtration system at a premium price that most amateur users won't be able to justify over cheaper screw on filters. At a Pro level it makes sense.
I have 2 homemade mist filters. I used matte black and chrome silver spray paint on the inner side of 2 cheap uv filters. I like the silver one a little better for portraits.
love these filters but damn theyre expensive. got a filter for astro that filters out city lights and i guess it was a little too tight because it shattered when i was putting it in. Glass was all up in the sensor area but the shutter closing at turn off saved my sensor from being scratched up by glass dust.
You can always add effects in post. So you might want to snap or record without the filter because if you only record with the filter on and decide at a later time that you didn't like it, you will have to painstakingly redo all your videos and pictures again. Also, the horrendous focus hunting and weird stuffs going on with that filter on.
I'm not interested in mist filter, but thanks to you I see that there will be also filter for Fuji system - I'm interested in IR filters. They told me while ago, that they are not doing them due to some technical limitations, but it seems that they overcame them. So hey, thanks for that video! :)
Hi I was thinking about getting this to use with my a7siii but had a few questions. Have you noticed any more scratching where the clip in filter is inserted and does the filter come off easily, like if I was shaking the camera or running with it would the filter pop out? Also curious on the the comparison between something like a black pro mist or polar pro pmvnd mist.
I noticed that R5 wobble a bit. Ooofff. R5c has face priority. The focus doesn't bounce back and forth as your hand passes it. Cool filter though. Waiting for reliable ND's for behind the lens that work like that. Tried some that blurred and blued my image. Nope.
@@TH-cam_can_ESAD unacceptable meaning as a product it is unacceptable or unacceptable for free content that you didn't have to watch? Truly asking. Either way, do you recall before cameras had any IBIS and most lenses didn't have stabilization? Because that camera shake and jello was WAY worse than this. Go watch VLOGs from like 2013. So essentially, we add a filter to add in the same effect I get whenever I get fat/grease on my glasses, and what I meticulously try to clean away from my lenses all the time. Dont get me wrong, I also do kinda like the misty effect in certain situations (cinematic look), but I find it ironic that we kinda say we dont want ultra-sharp and clean lenses all while the manufacturers try their damnedest to make a sharp and as ultrarealistic image as possible. 😂

You are most likely referring to mist variant filters that are not particularly common for standard photography for the reasons you have said. But in any case mist filters are a great asset to people who want to tone down the look of digital video capture in a more natural way that cannot be achieved easily or time efficiently in post.
I can't believe we are buying expensive lenses for sharpness and then dumbing it down with cheap filters. Why don't just buy a cheaper lens in the first place?
It's actually the sun causing the focus-hunting. Shooting directly into the sun can confuse the autofocus on most cameras and it will hunt in and out a bit!
I really wanted to watch your video but the warps footage when you were handholding and blogging actually made me nauseated. Sorry. Maybe use a tripod next time? I understand not everyone is as sensitive as I am to that and probably a lot of people won't notice it. But some of us are pretty sensitive to that warping.
Wtf with your autofocus?? I have an r6 and an R5 and definitely that is not normal unless I close to f11 or beyond, it must be a problema with the filter And the wabling effect is much better if you go to firmware 1.6

It just R5 being R5 😅🤣
Likely the R5 IBIS. My R5 does that. My R does not.
