California is honestly one of my favorite albums of all time. Its one of the few albums that I can listen to without skipping a single track because I just enjoy it so much.
I saw them on the Califronia tour in Omaha when I was eighteen and it was one of the craziest shows I’ve ever seen. They were all dressed like they were going golfing except for the sax player who was wearing green pj’s with the butt flap and a gigantic sombrero wrapped with chili pepper Christmas lights.
@@dagtheking5739 Exactly. But I hardly ever skip songs anyway. It has to be really bad for me to skip it. Then again I don't waste my time on average albums. But if an average song on an album I enjoy comes up, I listen to it anyway, cos songs often hit in a different way depending on mood, etc. Sometimes something I normally think is average, I might enjoy more on a particular day. I think many people don't give music enough of a chance to sink in these days, the way music is consumed.
The Girls of Porn was legitimatly one of my favorite songs of all time for a while. But I relized I have never shown it to anyone. That's Bungle for ya
Tough but fair. I NEED you to reconsider your opinion on The Bends though. I consider that the high point of Disco Volante. It's insane and eerie and evocative. Give it another chance.
The Bends is Mr Bungle's best track IMO and i wish they had more tracks like it. It's also kinda their version of Naked City's (John Zorn) Grand Guignol, like with Fantomas' (Patton) Derilium Cordia. The Bends is something else.
The no space between songs on self-titled comes from the idea that these guys grew up during the cassette tape days. Trevor said in some interview long ago that the silence between songs is the worst cover song ever. So they filled it with nonsense. It was my favorite cassette tape in my Walkman. So fun!
I love playing ‘California’ for people who’ve never heard of Mr. Bungle just to see their reaction. If they dig it, then I hit them with ‘Disco Volante’ and see how long they can last. Overall California is a 10/10 album for me, front to back, but Carry Stress in the Jaw might be my overall favorite song. It’s a tough call for sure. Great video! Your feedback was excellent.
What I like about Mr Bungle is the fact that I don't really know what is my favorite album, and it changes all the time, I heard them for the first time when I was about 17, and 15 years later these albums still manage to excite me. Right now I'm on the Disco Volante hill, it's just so insanely creative and unique but also hit hard AF. Before that California was my favorite and before that the S/T was but all of them are top tier.
5:44 yeah, i always hated that audio clip. And it is in my favourite song of the album (and from Bungle in general). I'll stick with the OU818 version of it.
To an extent I can agree. They each brinh something new and fresh to the table and each stand out as experimental classics. This ranking is more based on my own personal preference
1. Self titled 2.california 3. Disco 4. Bunny Ive heard the self titled so many times. I agree, the skits go on way too long. Although, i dint really care for love is a fist and Slowly Growing Deaf is one of my favorites lol I would say california and self titled are really neck and neck. I love both.
stubb a dub is literally my favorite song of all time. That little circusy riff right after the chorus is literally my favorite riff or part of any song ever.
As someone who also has California and Frances The Mute among their favorite albums and The Mars Volta as their favorite band please please please check Cardiacs out if you haven't already. One of Mike Patton's favorite bands
The skit before Girls of Porn was from a movie. Billy Gould from FNM actually told Patton about the porn movie with a character named Mr. Bungle in it. So they put the skit before the song. The person shitting wasn't Patton. I forget which band member exactly. But it was one of the band members taking a shot at Patton. Who , at least was , at the time a fecalpheliac. All that aside I agree everything you say about their latest album. Relatively disappointing
@dude6658 fecalphiliac. Well known fact that he , at least used to, play with his poop. He actually used to have sculptures on an old website decades ago. Has talked about it in interviews. Pooping in Axel Rose's orange juice. Stuffing doodoo in a hand dryer......
I wish i saw bungle back in the day.. so hard to choose my fave i i would say self titled then california then disco volante but then raging wrath.. i would flip disco and cali sometimes depending on the mood but self titled is closest to the heart.. when i first saw the clip for quote unquote wow
1) California - legit a 10/10 record for me; underrated, overlooked, and under-appreciated. 2) Disco Volante - 8.5; a grower that never stops growing. 3) Mr. Bungle - 7.5; the prevalent interludes drag it down a bit, but it’s solid otherwise. 4) Raging Wrath - 6.5; it’s a fine thrash metal album but an unavoidable disappointment for not being the return fans all want, and it’s also a bit too long. “Eracist” is a major bop with a great chorus, though. Same ranking as the one in this video, funnily enough.
My ranking changes often but atm it's prolly 4. Disco Volante (Sorry, I just don't understand it all that well) 3. California. Used to be my fav but I overplayed it lol 2. Self-titled, I like my music silly and wacky but it does seem to go on forever with two 10 minutes long tracks. 1. The Raging Wrath actually!!! I don't listen to death metal at all (and I don't think I will ever get into that genre, I only listened to this album cause I was already into Bungle) but it's so fire,,

California ia the type of album that you have to be in the mood to listen to, or else it feels bloated. The first two Bungle albums are masterpieces, especially Disco Volante. Rven if you're not on the mood for it, a few songs later you're feeling like it.

I think each release is better than the last (minus raging wrath but technically it was originally made before self titled) but my favorite is disco Volante just because of how balls to the wall chaotic it is. I also love it’s eerie atmosphere and I actually really love the bends, I just wish the segments transitioned into eachother to create better flow. Self titled was my favorite for a while until after I graduated and I started to get sick of it from overplaying it, it’s amazing but it’s really bloated and can get tedious. Still, love all their albums. Killer band.
1. California 2. Disco Volante 3. Easter Bunny 4. Mr. Bungle i am really not a fan of the first album at all. a few good songs, but the lyrics are just painful to listen to and look at. it is the pinnacle of annoying edgy lyrics. that would be what i think about Disco Volante if that one wasn’t just a ton of bangers. Easter Bunny was forgettable, but at least i could stand that one California is the only album by them that has no bad songs to me
(genuine question) if the lyrics in self-tilted are edgy, what do you consider nuanced? or is it the use of shock value that’s tired through-out the track list, so after a while they have no effect but to slightly gross out the listener? but emphasis on the nuance question, I got curious for some reason and the thought won’t leave my head.
