Lifetime Browns fan-- and I always will be. My father and I have spent every Sunday of the past 17 years sitting on a couch next to each other rooting for the Browns every Sunday. All I can say is-- If the Saints could get Drew Brees and did it... in the 42nd year of the Franchise... we can and will do it someday.

Mostlyharmless1985 The reason why Cleveland has the name, colors, records and etc is because the city sued the NFL and Art Modell for the history of the franchise. It was a landmark lawsuit that set the presedent for *all* sports teams going forward. No one can ever strip the history of a franchise from a city ever again..... With that said, I agree, the real browns or better yet the successor of the Browns are in Baltimore. Everyone knows that, and accepts that. As a matter of fact, whenever anyone talks about the history here, there is a distinction made between the "new browns" and the "old browns" or the "original browns". With that said, the NFL had to promise the city something, Cleveland is a big market. If the new team was not named the Cleveland Browns, then it would have failed miserably (finicially), and honestly many people would have probably died. Seriously, it was that bad. Art Modell was so hated he could not return to the city. People threatened him and his family, even decades later. When he finally died, the city celebrated his death, and people defaced his head stone. They had to put a police officer at the graveyard to stop it. He is so hated still to this day that he has not been put into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton Ohio (which is like Cleveland's backyard), and probably will never be as long as it is there. Even people who feel he should be in it, can't ignore what he did to Cleveland because it was the selfish move of a greedy man. Here in Ohio, football is more than a religion, it is a way of life. And what Art Modell and the NFL did to this city was beyond orginal sin. The hatred born from what they did, lives on in the children of all those that suffered. I know because I am one of those children. The pain both of my parents felt when the team was moved is still in them like it happened yesterday. A pain and anger like a family member was viciously murdered and the police did absolutely nothing to save them, even though they could have. So while it's easy for you to not care, maybe because you don't care for football, or maybe you're a fan of another franchise, until you have gone through something similiar in which you can relate, then you'll never understand.

5 seasons later, prior to the 2022 season, the Browns have gone a combined 32-48, a .400 record, including 0-16 the year after this video came out. Following 2 more losing seasons after their 0-16 season, they finished 11-5 and also won their only playoff game since their recreation in 1999. They lost to the eventual AFC Champs in the Chiefs, then fell right back below .500 again. That 2020 season was just the 3rd time the Browns finished the season over .500 since 1999, and with the recent rise of Cincinnati, the Browns may still be waiting on that first division title in over 30 years.

That’s NOTHING compared to how badly the team had screwed up with Mayfield and Watson. When it wasn’t fathomable for the Browns to get worse, they literally lowered the bar. This is a great idea, but I'm trying to identify what math you could run to simulate that. How can you predict a future that didn't happen? Not like the Kap or Bonds without a bat videos where it's reanalyzing stats that already happened, this would be a simulation. How do you factor in degredation of quality? Of how good the Rockets would be with him? You can't just redistribute points the Rockets scored for a few seasons, it would completely change the flow of the game. Maybe the video should be on his impact on the game both on and off the court? He singlehandedly brought the NBA to a huge emerging market and changed what an international NBA star looks like, while similtaniously dominating on the court and becoming more involved in the Houston community than any other Houston sports star.

To us true die hard Browns fans this is something we have been living with for a very, VERY, long time. We had a winning team. We had a contending franchise. It was stolen from us and replaced with what we have today. He wins games with the Cleveland goddamn Browns. All those years of terrible quarterbacks - and finally, their savior has come. He's not a perfect QB (but to be fair, he did have to play under Hue Jackson, Greg Williams, and goddam Freddie Kitchens). But despite not immediately winning a Super Bowl, bit by bit, he makes the team better. In 2020, Baker Mayfield takes the Browns to the playoffs for the first time in 18 years, to face their old bully, the Pittsburgh Steelers. In a major stunner, the Browns utterly _crush_ the Steelers. Run the Steelers out of their own stadium, and even record a scorigami. The curse is truly over. But then ... but then. The Browns decide that they're not satisfied. It's not enough. They want more. Baker was everything they wanted, everything they could've dreamed for ... but now they have him, they lust for greater. Redemption has merely strengthened their greed and envy. So they trade for Deshaun Watson. The man with 28 cases of pending sexual assault, but he throws the football good. They'll give him a contract with the most money any NFL player has ever earned - and they will fully guarantee it, which is unheard of. And they'll structure his deal so he loses the absolute minimum in league fines for his suspension, which is pretty scummy. And they also give away all their premium draft picks for the near future. They were willing to give up everything to get Deshaun Watson. Not just all of their money. Their future (all the draft picks), their team (all those players they couldn't re-sign), a huge chunk of their fanbase, and all the goodwill, likability, and favor that the Cleveland Browns had ever built up. And Baker? The guy who had saved them from hell, who gave them the happiest years of their franchise - the man whose name was written into the city's fabric (literally- there's a suburb of Cleveland called 'Mayfield'. it's where Progressive has their headquarters) - they threw him away for nothing. Tossed him out with the trash. Baker Mayfield was knitted to the very soul of the Cleveland Browns by strings of destiny - and they cut him out, threw him away, and then willingly, gladly handed their soul over to the devil in exchange. It's now 2024. The Browns are in year three of their deal. Every year has been worse than the last. Deshaun Watson has turned out to be fool's gold. He's worse than his backups - if he plays, which he usually doesn't. Jacoby Brissett played better than Watson. Jameis Winston was better than Watson. Even PJ Walker gave them more than Watson. Arthritic Joe Flacco coming off the sofa was better than Watson. And they couldn't hold onto any of them, because they gave Deshaun that contract. They can't bring in free agents because they gave him all their money. They can't draft anyone because they gave away their future. The Browns have finished the season 3 and 14. Every year has been worse than the last - and they have no reason to hope it will change. It is just year three of their deal. Once again, the Browns are looking up at the best version of themselves - but now there are two shadows cast. The Ravens are back in the playoffs. But so is Baker Mayfield. The quarterback unexpectedly helped rebuild and reenergize a bad team into a playoff contender. He saved their franchise. And boy, he's a fun face of the franchise. The Browns are forced to watch and bear witness as the twin destinies that _should_ be theirs - that _were_ theirs - play out before their eyes. The Browns are back in hell. But this is a hell of their own design. And one that is thoroughly deserved.

This video just gets better every season. At the start of the 2019-2020 season there was serious consideration for the browns to be playoff contenders. They are currently 6-8. Their last two games are against the ravens, who have clinched the division, and the the bengals, the worst team in the nfl. Their last two games are meaningless. At best the browns can finish 8-8 their best record since 2007. Realistically they will finish 7-9. Another losing record. There is no escape from The Mistake on the Lake.
And it's repeating itself going into 2020, in my circle of online friends there's a lot of people thinking the Browns are legit contenders, seemingly forgetting how this goes no matter how much I repeat it - these are the Browns, losing is all they'll do because losing is all that they know.
When the Browns went to the playoffs as a wild card in 2002, the Patriots missed the playoffs. They were both 9-7. Furthermore, the Jets won the AFC East, also with a 9-7 record. In 2002, the Patriots lost out on the playoffs on tiebreakers to both the Jets and Browns.
The last time the Browns won a playoff game, they were coached by Bill Belichick. It was Belichick's first playoff win. The Browns defeated the Patriots in that game. The Browns have not won a playoff game since.

A year after this video, The Browns have won 7 games They beat a winning team. (Ravens) They affected the AFC playoffs (losing to the ravens therefore eliminating the Steelers) They won when they were playoff eligible (they needed the heavens to move to actually make it, but it’s still exciting) They won their first game in 635 days on national tv (TNF) They’re further down the draft board at the 17th pick. Also the team at number 1 overall in the draft didn’t lose to them (Relevant?). Still had a coaching overhaul in the middle of the season and Baker Mayfield didn’t start until the 4th game. They have made progress since this video (and Hue Jackson being fired)
Still though. Pretty sad when 7-8-1 is considered progress. They have to nail their first round pick this year if they wanna keep trending upwards. At some point, they need to catch up with the rest of the league.

Yep. For awhile, they were technically "in the hunt". Those winning streaks were awesome. They beat the Falcons, Panthers, and Broncos, which was awesome. Eventually going from 2-6-1 to 7-7-1 by the end of Week 16, which was an epic improvement. Of course, they lost to the Ravens, but at least they could finish off the season by spoiling it for the Steelers, which is a team they justifiably hate. XD
The super down tone of the whole segment could lead right into an ascendant second act, which would be really cool, but it is the Browns so it might be more of a footnote.

They're coming for revenge against the Ravens and Steelers for all the abuse they've been put through. 2019 through 7 weeks: They're 2-4 with 2 blowout losses that were worse than anything sustained during the dark seasons of Hue Jackson. Mayfield is falling apart, the trade for OBJ appears to be a bust for both teams involved, and Kitchens is woefully underprepared for Head Coach. At least you beat the Ravens, who are leading the division at 5-2. You're even behind the Steelers on point differential, the same Steelers team on their 3rd QB, no Pro Bowl RB, no Pro Bowl WR, a weaker offensive line, and a defense still developing. The amount of wasted talent is nearly unprecedented.
When I first watched this in 2017, I grew an unknown sympathy that I never knew I had toward the Browns. Their history, their losses, their pains and struggles became clearer the more I studied them and seen what they've gone through. It's especially heart breaking that because the "real" Browns have become the Baltimore Ravens and because of this the Browns fans are living under the illusion that the "current" Browns have always been the same. As a football fan in general that is such a sad notion that I don't think I would ever be able to handle. So the fact that these fans continue to support a struggling team that isn't truly even theirs, it will always be seen as a sign of respect from me. Whether or not these fans will ever experience the satisfaction of winning a championship remains to be seen, but in my humble opinion, so as long as Cleveland has A FOOTBALL TEAM and that team has FANS, there will ALWAYS be a chance. No matter how small or unlikely that it may be. And besides... in 2018 I felt a ripple.

It was a landmark lawsuit that set the presedent for *all* sports teams going forward. No one can ever strip the history of a franchise from a city ever again.....
With that said, I agree, the real browns or better yet the successor of the Browns are in Baltimore. Everyone knows that, and accepts that. As a matter of fact, whenever anyone talks about the history here, there is a distinction made between the "new browns" and the "old browns" or the "original browns".
With that said, the NFL had to promise the city something, Cleveland is a big market. If the new team was not named the Cleveland Browns, then it would have failed miserably (finicially), and honestly many people would have probably died. Seriously, it was that bad.
Art Modell was so hated he could not return to the city. People threatened him and his family, even decades later. When he finally died, the city celebrated his death, and people defaced his head stone. They had to put a police officer at the graveyard to stop it. He is so hated still to this day that he has not been put into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton Ohio (which is like Cleveland's backyard), and probably will never be as long as it is there. Even people who feel he should be in it, can't ignore what he did to Cleveland because it was the selfish move of a greedy man.
Here in Ohio, football is more than a religion, it is a way of life. And what Art Modell and the NFL did to this city was beyond orginal sin.
The hatred born from what they did, lives on in the children of all those that suffered. I know because I am one of those children. The pain both of my parents felt when the team was moved is still in them like it happened yesterday. A pain and anger like a family member was viciously murdered and the police did absolutely nothing to save them, even though they could have.
So while it's easy for you to not care, maybe because you don't care for football, or maybe you're a fan of another franchise, until you have gone through something similiar in which you can relate, then you'll never understand.

5 seasons later, prior to the 2022 season, the Browns have gone a combined 32-48, a .400 record, including 0-16 the year after this video came out. Following 2 more losing seasons after their 0-16 season, they finished 11-5 and also won their only playoff game since their recreation in 1999. They lost to the eventual AFC Champs in the Chiefs, then fell right back below .500 again. That 2020 season was just the 3rd time the Browns finished the season over .500 since 1999, and with the recent rise of Cincinnati, the Browns may still be waiting on that first division title in over 30 years.
While Burrow and Jackson reside in AFC North, nobody else is winning that division.

Every year we have hope that this will finally be our year to break out of this slump and do something, but every year we shoot ourselves in the foot. Poor choices for office, draft selections, and free agency. We deserve a franchise that contends at least for playoff spots. We have suffered, screamed, and some even cried. I will always be a Cleveland fan. I will not swim away from this wreckage looking for a "better ship". Some day we will be back.

The Browns will always right the ship and return to garbage
A couple weeks after this video published, the Browns would finish their season 0 and 16. They would tie the record for most miserable season. Hue Jackson would, as promised, throw himself in a lake. The Browns are at their lowest ever.
But then ... they draft Baker Mayfield. And he turns out to be the star quarterback and face of the franchise that the Browns never even dared to dreamed of. He could not be a better fit for the Cleveland Browns. He's undersized, an underdog, scrappy, dynamic, takes risks, gambles, a gunslinger. Despite worries that he'd become another Johnny Football, Baker turns out to not actually be a douchebag - he's charismatic, brash, funny, and likeable. He makes plays. And he wins games. He wins games with the Cleveland goddamn Browns. All those years of terrible quarterbacks - and finally, their savior has come. He's not a perfect QB (but to be fair, he did have to play under Hue Jackson, Greg Williams, and goddam Freddie Kitchens). But despite not immediately winning a Super Bowl, bit by bit, he makes the team better. In 2020, Baker Mayfield takes the Browns to the playoffs for the first time in 18 years, to face their old bully, the Pittsburgh Steelers. In a major stunner, the Browns utterly _crush_ the Steelers. Run the Steelers out of their own stadium, and even record a scorigami. The curse is truly over.
But then ... but then. The Browns decide that they're not satisfied. It's not enough. They want more. Baker was everything they wanted, everything they could've dreamed for ... but now they have him, they lust for greater. Redemption has merely strengthened their greed and envy.
So they trade for Deshaun Watson. The man with 28 cases of pending sexual assault, but he throws the football good. They'll give him a contract with the most money any NFL player has ever earned - and they will fully guarantee it, which is unheard of. And they'll structure his deal so he loses the absolute minimum in league fines for his suspension, which is pretty scummy. And they also give away all their premium draft picks for the near future.
They were willing to give up everything to get Deshaun Watson. Not just all of their money. Their future (all the draft picks), their team (all those players they couldn't re-sign), a huge chunk of their fanbase, and all the goodwill, likability, and favor that the Cleveland Browns had ever built up.
And Baker? The guy who had saved them from hell, who gave them the happiest years of their franchise - the man whose name was written into the city's fabric (literally- there's a suburb of Cleveland called 'Mayfield'. it's where Progressive has their headquarters) - they threw him away for nothing. Tossed him out with the trash. Baker Mayfield was knitted to the very soul of the Cleveland Browns by strings of destiny - and they cut him out, threw him away, and then willingly, gladly handed their soul over to the devil in exchange.
It's now 2024. The Browns are in year three of their deal. Every year has been worse than the last. Deshaun Watson has turned out to be fool's gold. He's worse than his backups - if he plays, which he usually doesn't. Jacoby Brissett played better than Watson. Jameis Winston was better than Watson. Even PJ Walker gave them more than Watson. Arthritic Joe Flacco coming off the sofa was better than Watson. And they couldn't hold onto any of them, because they gave Deshaun that contract. They can't bring in free agents because they gave him all their money. They can't draft anyone because they gave away their future.
The Browns have finished the season 3 and 14. Every year has been worse than the last - and they have no reason to hope it will change. It is just year three of their deal.
Once again, the Browns are looking up at the best version of themselves - but now there are two shadows cast. The Ravens are back in the playoffs. But so is Baker Mayfield. The quarterback unexpectedly helped rebuild and reenergize a bad team into a playoff contender. He saved their franchise. And boy, he's a fun face of the franchise.
The Browns are forced to watch and bear witness as the twin destinies that _should_ be theirs - that _were_ theirs - play out before their eyes.
The Browns are back in hell. But this is a hell of their own design. And one that is thoroughly deserved.

This video just gets better every season. At the start of the 2019-2020 season there was serious consideration for the browns to be playoff contenders. They are currently 6-8. Their last two games are against the ravens, who have clinched the division, and the the bengals, the worst team in the nfl. Their last two games are meaningless. At best the browns can finish 8-8 their best record since 2007. Realistically they will finish 7-9. Another losing record. There is no escape from The Mistake on the Lake.
And they can't even do that. 6-10 oh what they could have been.

The pats went 11-5 in the 08-09 season and missed the playoffs. Therefore the browns are better than the pats.
When the Browns went to the playoffs as a wild card in 2002, the Patriots missed the playoffs. They were both 9-7. Furthermore, the Jets won the AFC East, also with a 9-7 record. In 2002, the Patriots lost out on the playoffs on tiebreakers to both the Jets and Browns.

They won when they were playoff eligible (they needed the heavens to move to actually make it, but it’s still exciting)

They’re further down the draft board at the 17th pick. Also the team at number 1 overall in the draft didn’t lose to them (Relevant?).
Still had a coaching overhaul in the middle of the season and Baker Mayfield didn’t start until the 4th game.

Yep. For awhile, they were technically "in the hunt". Those winning streaks were awesome. They beat the Falcons, Panthers, and Broncos, which was awesome. Eventually going from 2-6-1 to 7-7-1 by the end of Week 16, which was an epic improvement. Of course, they lost to the Ravens, but at least they could finish off the season by spoiling it for the Steelers, which is a team they justifiably hate. XD

2019 through 7 weeks: They're 2-4 with 2 blowout losses that were worse than anything sustained during the dark seasons of Hue Jackson. Mayfield is falling apart, the trade for OBJ appears to be a bust for both teams involved, and Kitchens is woefully underprepared for Head Coach. At least you beat the Ravens, who are leading the division at 5-2. You're even behind the Steelers on point differential, the same Steelers team on their 3rd QB, no Pro Bowl RB, no Pro Bowl WR, a weaker offensive line, and a defense still developing. The amount of wasted talent is nearly unprecedented.

When I first watched this in 2017, I grew an unknown sympathy that I never knew I had toward the Browns. Their history, their losses, their pains and struggles became clearer the more I studied them and seen what they've gone through. It's especially heart breaking that because the "real" Browns have become the Baltimore Ravens and because of this the Browns fans are living under the illusion that the "current" Browns have always been the same. As a football fan in general that is such a sad notion that I don't think I would ever be able to handle. So the fact that these fans continue to support a struggling team that isn't truly even theirs, it will always be seen as a sign of respect from me. Whether or not these fans will ever experience the satisfaction of winning a championship remains to be seen, but in my humble opinion, so as long as Cleveland has A FOOTBALL TEAM and that team has FANS, there will ALWAYS be a chance. No matter how small or unlikely that it may be. And besides...
