My first run of both Pikmin games as a kid was also no-death. In the caves in Pikmin 2 which didnt have a time limit i would go around beating every enemy possible to death with Olimar or Louie whilst my Pikmin hid in a corner. It took SO long but I hated it so so much every single time a pikmin died that i couldn't bear not to reset. Also Wayne is right, the end of day music is the most soothing thing in the world. Everytime I see the pikmin streams in my recommendations I have to stop what I'm doing and watch the part of the memorial wall when an Elton Jon midi plays for 10 mins. I dont know why it cracks me up so much. Maybe its the audible and visual confusion everyone has when this upbeat song plays while Wayne writes his pikmin childrens' obituaries.
