Hmm, i didnt know that a trap was needed, but i do know the MPX filter can cause distortion if its faulty or messed with.

Yeah, the traps are only needed for recording - when they don't function or they are removed the high voltage signal gets to the recording amp and basically you'll get nothing on that channel. Probably not real good for the amp either. Interestingly, the Technics has a tunable bias trap by way of adjustable inductors.
