    Meg only won the game because of (the fabulous) Ron Palillo's "gnaw" answer, and then completely ignored him. He was very smart (and had the $500 answer).

    H/H match update and End-of-Week Recap:
    ...
    ~~~Today's Action:
    Our champion needs to match the final two - Nipsey and Betty - to achieve a tie and stay in the game...
    ... And both Nipsey and Betty deliver the necessary green hair! ...And our champion goes on to eke out a win in the tie-breaker (thanks to Ron!), thus clinching her third victory.
    Today's audience match question: " ________ Bubble" (My thoughts: Double, Soap, Tiny)
    The celebs: Richard (Soap), Betty (Bubble), Brett (I'm Forever Blowing)
    The choice: Soap
    The answers: Burst Your, Soap, Double (Ha! I had the top answer and the stars didn't!)
    Our champion will undoubtedly choose Richard again. They've matched once and failed once.
    This is now King Richard's 14th consecutive play and now he's been chosen 99 of the past 105 times. (Charles answered three of the remaining questions and Rosemary Forsyth, Nipsey Russell, and Fannie got one each.)
    Richard has matched 65 of his 154 most recent attempts (42.2%), 48 of his last 111 attempts (43.2%), 28 of his last 61 attempts (45.9%), and 4 of his last 14 attempts (28.6%). His overall success rate is 41.7% and this is his 632nd attempt so far.
    For the sake of comparison: Betty has matched 19 of her 38 attempts (50.0%), and Brett has matched 28 of her 68 attempts (41.2%). Nipsey has answered 8 questions without a match yet. The other two panelists have never been chosen for a head-to-head question.
    Today's H/H question: "Voyage ________ "
    (My first thought is "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea." Besides the novel and 1961 film, it was the name of a popular TV series from 1964-1968.)
    Richard begins writing immediately, but the camera cuts away to show the contestant thinking. When it returns to Richard, he's finishing his answer. It's hard to tell, but I'm not sure he had enough time to write my long answer. But what else is there? I guess I'll soon see...
    The contestant say "Voyage of the Damned." (Never crossed my mind. It's a 1976 film that I'm unfamiliar with. I was watching more TV reruns than movies in the theater back in 1976.)
    Richard mentions the series I had thought of, but I was right that his answer was shorter: "of the Damned."
    Richard scores his 264th H/H match today.
    ~~~The Week that Was:
    Although the tape of episode 968 has gone missing and we didn't get a chance to see it, it was still possible to ascertain the H/H choice and outcome of that show: Richard was chosen (by the current champion) and scored a $5,000 match.
    This means we had five H/H questions for the week, but only two matches - Richard 2/5
    This is the second consecutive week in which only Richard played the H/H. I count 11 such weeks just going back to episode 891...
    Quickly recapping this week's panelists:
    *Richard* had a par week, matching two out of five attempts. He ends the week with a very good 41.7% accuracy overall.
    *Brett* sat idle for the 22nd consecutive week. She's sitting at a good 41.2%
    *Betty* White finished her 51st week of 75. Not having an opportunity to play a H/H question, she remains locked in a tie with (an absent) Charles. They both have an excellent 50.0% accuracy rate.
    *Nipsey* Russell completed his 16th week (of 28 total) without getting another shot to score his first H/H match. He has made eight attempts to date.
    *Ron* Palillo completed his fourth week (he's only got one to go), still without being called on to answer a H/H question.
    *Tudi* Wiggins completed her one and only week on the MG panel without getting a shot at the head-to-head.
    ~~~Looking ahead to next week, the good news is that Charles is back!
    The bad news is that there are two new faces on the panel (at this point in the show, there's a huge bench of familiar faces and "old friends" to have on, so I don't see the wisdom in introducing two new celebs in the same week, especially when neither will be around enough to feel like they've become a true part of the Match Game family.
    ...At any rate, here are the folks who will be joining our three steadfast regulars next week:
    -----Semi-regular Fannie Flagg will drop by for her 57th week of 90. Her H/H accuracy rate is a fantastic 48.1%.
    -----Dick Smothers will make his debut. It's be his first of only two weeks on the panel.
    -----Meg Bennett will make her debut. It'll be her first of only two weeks on the panel.
    ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy:
    (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.)
    (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.)
    Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts).
    TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
    TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
    Gary Burghoff - 71.4% (5 wins in 7 attempts).
    TIE: Charles - 50.0% (33 wins in 66 attempts).
    TIE: Betty - 50.0% (19 wins in 38 attempts).
    Fannie - 48.1% (13 wins in 27 attempts).
    Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts).
    Richard - 41.8% (264 wins in 632 attempts).
    Brett - 41.2% (28 wins in 68 attempts).
    Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts).
    *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 970, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, and 910. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!") -- Also, note that episode 849 was never produced. Additionally, these stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969.
