the original cybertron prime was a masterpiece, but this is still pretty great. as a kid who never got transformer toys that were actually from the shows, getting another chance at having this guy made me so happy. it’s not perfect, but he scratches the itch, and i love him a lot.
As someone who grew up with the Unicron Trilogy, it is a fine bit of fanservice for us and a nice homage, too. I think the figure looks great but it also has its flaws for me that kind of make it inferior compared to the original one (that I still own since Christmas 2006) and it's not something I would get, but I still think it's a good call that they are thinking outside of the box than mainly focusing on just doing G1 characters. Just like with Hot Shot in the Siege line, another UT character!
A little late but I don't see how it's inferior, if anything the original is inferior, it's giant it's clunky and overall lacking, so if you can reply when you have the chance you can fill me in on how the new one is inferior

the knee guns on magnus *are* accurate, they should just be blue instead of black. They're right behind the cab in vehicle mode for RID2001 Magnus, and are used in the combined Super Mode to shoulder mount the weapons.
I bought this toy as he's my favourite Optimus design. I love this toy. I bought the upgrade kit. I love him even more! Yes he doesn't really look like all the other Optimus Prime toys but man is he my jam! Such a mean looking head sculpt!
I want a new cartoon and toy-line that shakes things up (while homaging and being respectful of what came before) like the Unicron Trilogy and Beast Era!
The Unicron trilogy was my introduction to Transformers, and I've always loved the characteristic, anime-esque proportions of those series' designs as a result. I wholeheartedly agree that there should be more modern takes on those designs, but I don't feel like this one does justice to the original, or indeed the general characteristics of these designs.
The sculpted slant on the armored-up feet is so the wheels clear the ground in robot mode. A cost saving measure I assume to avoid having to engineer collapsing wheels or whatever.
Absolutely the greatest Optimus prime headsculpts to come out of the WFC line, it nailed the yellow eyes and reminds me of how pathetic ER's head looked with the blue eyes next to a blue face under a blue helmet with only the facemask to break up the blue
What they should do is give Cybertron Optimus Prime an official Masterpiece figure to pay proper homage to one of the best Prime designs ever. or a third party version from a good third party company will work as well.
Ong. They need to bring back the unicron trilogy. Ik legacy is suppose to have Metroplex and laser prime but thats about it as far as i know. Im hoping we get more down the line even if they have g1 mixed into the designs.
$120 Canadian is significantly cheaper then my neck of the woods in the UK, based on conversion rates UK's price would be that of $152 Canadian..... so I feel the pain my friend, anyway that aside, great vid, and couldn't agree with you more on the want for more Unicron Trilogy updates
While I agree that I want to see some more Unicron Trilogy bois, I've found their attempts so far a little lacking. I think they're missing the crazy factor that came with that line up. Like you mentioned, no cyber key and no flying firetruck. But also, where are Leo Breaker or Wing Saber supposed to go? Hot Shot was okay, but he's tiny, when the original was huge and had bowie knives! The new tries are almost too conservative, but it does at least show Hasbro/Takara have the nads to give these a second glance, because even 3rd party is JUST starting to look at these
At least Hasbro didn’t let this part of the fandom die. They are just using the designs with more modern takes so that they can still make profits. I don’t disagree with the original concepts of the series and figures. But those purposes aren’t going to sell as much as they would for the older audience. Considering that Hasbro is going full kids only mode. Which is really odd considering the price of this guy is for older people than a kid….
It's unfortunate that Galaxy Upgrade Optimus Prime didn't really push-down the price of loose Cybertron figures on the secondary market (here in Australia at least).
Honestly the only insane prices I've seen for Cybertron figures are Megatron and Galaxy Prime, Galaxy Prime in box is like $300(CAD)! You can get Starscream in box for about half that price
This is one of the very first Siege toys I bought day one right as Hasbro Korea actually bothered to import a selection of WFC retail toys after a drought of no Prime Wars trilogy.
Honestly, this makes me glad I got Cybertron Prime back when he was new. The Costco version where it was him and Wing Saber for less than the price of a Leader. The original holds up extremely well and this is a poor man's substitute for that toy if you ask me. If you can't afford the original this will serve as a viable option, but if you _can_ find the original for a good price don't bother with this one. But I will say if I did have this and displayed it without the armor, I'd keep the chestpiece attached along with the shoulder pads, so it keeps the full Cybertron Prime look minus the mouth.
Starscream is the only Armada figure rumored for Legacy so far, I hope he come with swindle. Blurr is rumored for the Velocitron subline, i hope he comes with Incinerator. That's one thing that disappoints me about Legacy, there should be an entire assortment from core to Commander class dedicated to Armada for its 20th anniversary.
I would try to give H.I.S.S. tank megatron a chance, apparently he comes up to siege jetfires shoulders so that would definitely make the price a little less painful
Imo Cybertron had the best designs, both before and since. They were almost 100% show accurate (looking at you Savage Claw mode), had a ton of variety and most of them looked really good in both vehicle and robot modes. This Optimus Prime looked so dang good in every mode, even if the flight mode was a bit basic.
Sadly, if we ever do get new UT figures, Legacy has shown that they'll just be turned into yet more G1 because Generations stopped being a plural years ago.
I know you said you don’t like upgrade kits, but I really recommend the DNA Design kit, it doesn’t feel out of place and improves the proportions. It makes me actually kinda like the core robot lol Edit: Ah, too tall for your tastes, gotcha👍
It is a significant height difference as I own the figure and the kit myself. But the armor still works if the legs are kept compressed instead of extended and you would still get a good range of articulation out of it
Glad I snagged this for a little over 30 on ebay last year. No box, but still complete with the manual. Despite the hollow parts, I do love it, although not as much as the original. Seeing this and the original makes me wish that the legends version had a mini trailer to go with it. I figure if they were able to make the small THS-01 Galaxy Convoy, they could have done it with the legends figure. That and a legends Wing Saber.

As far as upgrade kits, I really like (QC issues aside) the DNA Designs kits, but only because they allow you to *shift the knees down the leg where they always should have been* , albeit you have to "mistransform" them. Seriously, the biggest problem with the core robot isn't the proportions of the legs, but where they put the knee. It's in the middle of what should be his upper thigh. The only downside of using the mistransformation to fix the knee is that you have a *tiny* gap on the sides of the leg, but honestly seeing the side of the knee strut move when posing gives me Mech-Tech flashbacks.
Speaking of "kits" I heard that back in 2004 after Stikfas, Hasbro use to have a cool figure kit line called Xevoz, it would've been cool if there was reissues or maybe a reboot of that cool toyline someday.
Seeing Fans Hobby tackle some masterpiece scale armada figures is the most exciting thing in 3rd party in a long time for me. I enjoyed the unicron trilogy even with me being in high school when it came out. I would like more hasbro releases to scale better with most of my collection. Need an armada starscream. And the whole earth defense force from cybertron

I got this when it came out, and OH MY GOD I love it so much! I also have Siege Ultra Magnus, and they look INCREDIBLE together! They looks amazing with my Earthrise Doubledealer and Siege Soundblaster, and I’m soon gonna get Lionizer, who will fit amazingly, and I have a sneaking suspension that having GUOP and my upcoming Volcanicus as like a JoJo stand thing would be beautiful!
I really don’t mind the height difference the upgrade kit gives but the only reason I bought the kit was for accuracy sake. The panels for the cannons also adds to the completeness of the figure. So you can choose to get the upgrade kit for the cannon panels, you don’t have to do a complete upgrade (spoilers: the leg articulation for the upgrade is a godsend. Enables for very dynamic one-knee cannon blasting action)

My absolute favorite figure of all time is the original Cybertron Prime, I got my hands on one a few years ago, grabbed the earthrise figure, and just got my hands on a full diecast mini version of this figure as well. Now I just need the galaxy pain job of the original and my collection is complete.
Unicron trilogy is underrated because people don’t understand what it was made to be, and what actually happened to the series. People need to relax. 10/10 all around.
It was literally meant to be an short series, describing the series over a three part show. Not a super duper lengthy show. And besides…read the comics….

Literally I bought the Generations selects hotshot figure as well as galaxy upgrade prime purely for the nostalgia factor and I bought upgrades for them
There is the Transform and Roll Out Commander of Stars coming soon, it's pretty good since the price has gone way up on Cybertron Leader Optimus significantly, so it's a good alternative
I have the hotshot, incredible paint job and the head is great, but if you can get your hands on the toyhax set and the upgrade kit it gets even better
the feet have a default ankle tilt so the wheels doesn't touch the ground in robot mode, yeah it's ugly in vehicle mode but it was either this or a non stable robot
The modern HOT SHOT 'really' needs the upgrade kits, though.. I hope they decide to follow up with a modern (I.C.B.M. Carrier) RED ALERT and (Anti-Aircraft) SCATTERSHOT to complete the "CYBERTRON DEFENSE" team.
I think its more the Armada toys that need updating from the Unicron trilogy line, I want to see a update of Armada Prime complete with the combining with trailer gimmick as long as the trailer isn't a brick, Armada prime is the first Optimus prime on screen not to have windows as his chest for robot mode, RID2001 OP has a fake window chest for some reason, but he was pretty cool, those sized toys would likely be commander class these days, given how big they are! With the siege leader OP, it just never clicked with me, thus I passed on him and don't regret it as I got the original Cybertron Optimus, plus the original toy has features that the Siege one doesn't have, aside from the cyber key gimmick, the original can combine with Wing Saber or Leobreaker to create a different look!
This is one of the few figures I upgraded becuase those cannons are just ugly out of box plus unlike the magnus upgrade set they utilize the hollow cannons to store the extra weapons.

I actually have the Hasbro version which I got years ago. Sadly, he didn't came with any of his accessories and his head fins are now missing

My absolute favorite figure of all time is the original Cybertron Prime, I got my hands on one a few years ago, grabbed the earthrise figure, and just got my hands on a full diecast mini version of this figure as well. Now I just need the galaxy pain job of the original and my collection is complete.

Unicron trilogy is underrated because people don’t understand what it was made to be, and what actually happened to the series. People need to relax. 10/10 all around.
It was literally meant to be an short series, describing the series over a three part show. Not a super duper lengthy show. And besides…read the comics….
Exactly, it's like Prime (*I like the show sometimes but not often.) and G1 are the "only" Transformers cartoons they care about and nothing else 😐

Definitely one of my favorite figures hastak released in a while, gaping cannons aside. Funny enough, the store I got it from had siege magnus too but it was priced twice as much as Galaxy prime lmao
I designed a 3D printed cyber Planet key for this figure. It fits in 5 mm peg holes
Literally I bought the Generations selects hotshot figure as well as galaxy upgrade prime purely for the nostalgia factor and I bought upgrades for them

There is the Transform and Roll Out Commander of Stars coming soon, it's pretty good since the price has gone way up on Cybertron Leader Optimus significantly, so it's a good alternative
I have the hotshot, incredible paint job and the head is great, but if you can get your hands on the toyhax set and the upgrade kit it gets even better
All I have to say about this figure is holy panel lines Batman.
Honestly the modern toys are struggling to match, let alone surpass their original counterparts
the feet have a default ankle tilt so the wheels doesn't touch the ground in robot mode, yeah it's ugly in vehicle mode but it was either this or a non stable robot
I find it REALLY weird that this is part of the War for Cybertron Trilogy, given the line’s affinity for G1 and Beast Wars
The modern HOT SHOT 'really' needs the upgrade kits, though..
I hope they decide to follow up with a modern (I.C.B.M. Carrier) RED ALERT and (Anti-Aircraft) SCATTERSHOT to complete the "CYBERTRON DEFENSE" team.

I think its more the Armada toys that need updating from the Unicron trilogy line, I want to see a update of Armada Prime complete with the combining with trailer gimmick as long as the trailer isn't a brick, Armada prime is the first Optimus prime on screen not to have windows as his chest for robot mode, RID2001 OP has a fake window chest for some reason, but he was pretty cool, those sized toys would likely be commander class these days, given how big they are! With the siege leader OP, it just never clicked with me, thus I passed on him and don't regret it as I got the original Cybertron Optimus, plus the original toy has features that the Siege one doesn't have, aside from the cyber key gimmick, the original can combine with Wing Saber or Leobreaker to create a different look!
The Hasbro one has paint on the back of the wings

My copy has VERY loose legs. They straight up can’t even hold its own place eight cuz the ratchets are weak but it’s still a great figure
This is one of the few figures I upgraded becuase those cannons are just ugly out of box plus unlike the magnus upgrade set they utilize the hollow cannons to store the extra weapons.
I really don’t get why upgrade kits keep trying to give this mold stupid long legs. The legs look fine imo.
i actually got the hotshot. at first i found its colour kinda off putting especially in pics, but in person, i ended up liking it a lot more.
