I suspect the odd ankles were a compromise to keep the wheels off of the ground in robot mode without adding more parts to them. I heard a rumor somewhere (forgot where) that the initial plan for an earth mode Magnus was to use the Earthrise Prime tooling as the inner robot, but the plan either didn't work out mechanically or went over budget. The chunkiness really works and the overall proportions (especially the shoulders) looks so much better to me. Plus the shades of the colours and that head-sculpt. “Chefs kiss”.
Yeah, I like the head on Kingdom Maggie, but not only did it manage to inherit a lot of problems form the Siege version but also managed to make some of them worse (like the visible robot kibble in truck mode). Really we would've gotten an Earth mode Magnus after Legacy as a commander class figure instead, at that pricepoint HasTak could probably come up with something on par with the Masterpiece release, maybe even better in some aspects. Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus (not Thrilling 30) *does* have a core robot. It's a little micromaster-sized car that transforms into a robot that pilots UM like a Gundam. It's awesome. Just wish it attached to the altmode more securely.
I really like the regular Siege version, especially with the leg upgrades that make him a lot less stumpy (it looks wonky in pics, but the proportions are pretty much fine in hand). I enjoy the alt mode, though I wish he could actually hold cars in his trailer. The spoiler pack one is the worst use of the mold tbh, the colors and battle damage are so bad, especially considering this is supposed to be the premium deco. Kingdom does not work at all, especially in alt mode. It should have been a new mold, the Siege Cyberstylization really clashes with the traditional 86 style. SG and Galaxy Prime seem okay, I don’t care about them, but the mold works for them.
I’ve never had that loose weapon issue on the three of the mold I have. I have Kingdom, had Siege, and have Galaxy Prime and no issues with the hands holding anything.
The Kingdom Ultra Magnus was my very first Ultra Magnus figure. The first time I saw it I was excited to get it cos I missed getting the Encore G1 Ultra Magnus. Was thinking of selling of my Kingdom Magnus but decided to keep it after getting the SS '86 Magnus just so I'll get to display different versions of Ultra Magnus.
I’ve felt for a while that the combiner wars mold was superior and more conceptually interesting. Man, I wish hasbro would do the mechsuit for minimus ambus thing again
Ultra Magnus needs the leg extensions, though. I mean, it’s nice having same-scale red and white Optimus Primes, but the leg extensions help out greatly when armored up.
The thing with the feet is because if they were flat either it couldn't roll in alt-mode or it would roll in robot mode. There is a 3D printed upgrade kit which I got which makes them flat, but it can just roll back and forwards now, which although amusing is odd.
Gotta be honest the centre robot is cheap as hell, looks like an upscaled legends class figure, the stuff you'd find in bootlegs. Wish they made it transform a lot more for a "leader class".
I’m actually still ok with this mould I do prefer the kingdom ver. because it’s more g1 accurate so I can display him with my 86 collection and I do appreciate how you can lift the backpack up just to get it out of the way a little bit
my kingdom magnus had such a loose shoulder that it couldnt hold its own weight. The frustrating part is i had to break it to take it apart because there is a little glued in tab keeping the shoulder together even though its screwed on. I also had the loose gun issue, but i used a slight coat of superglue to tighten it
I have the Siege release, and I don't know if it's a common issue or just mine, but on one shoulder piece, the tab on the back that is supposed to lock it to the inner robot's arm just refuses to tab, just popping off as soon as you press it into place.
There is a special trick to removing the backpack off the core magnus bot. Removing the backpack also then helps for the complete magnus mode and allows the legs to have more articulation
I only own the Kingdom version and it seems like only having one version of this mold is the key to not having your opinion of it sour lmao. I enjoy him quite a bit. Truck mode is imperfect but he’s still cool. I’d honestly never owned any Magnus figures before so he’ll always be special for me
I put quite a bit of acrylic paint into the hip joints and one layer of silver on the gun handle, and it really made things much better on my Siege version. I'd still sell it if it was worth anything though. Not my favorite.
I haven't bought any Magnus's since the Siege line and the one I have is a 3rd upgrade that's bigger than the official version on offer here. But I did buy 3 Shattered Glass versions though, one for S.G., one for a Diaclone/Delta head and one for keepsake but yeah...
Coincidentally, I just got the Seige SPOILER Magnus on Father's day for the same reason, it was on sale on BBTS, (though I had to pay almost 40 american dollars, the other Magnus's would've cost me about 57, almost 80 for the Premium Finish version) I've been waiting 3 years to get my hands on a Magnus, any Magnus, I'm happy with the one I got. Thankfully I've got no issues with the figure (unless you want to count the fact that out of the box the panels on his arm guards didn't want to tab In, but after messing with them for the day and a half I've owned this figure, they want to work properly.)
The only way the pre ankle tilt has made sense to me is when in robot mode you tab his legs together the wheels sit on the ground and you can roll him around like the g1 magnus
I've got Kingdom Ultra Magnus. Think you got a bad copy because my legs dont rattle or have the weird ratchet issue. For truck mode I put the rockets on top of the cab, and use the arm covers over the hands to hide them and it looks alot better.
I Paid $25 For Spoiler One & THEN Found Out That My Sister Bought Me One For My Birthday From The EXACT Same Place & Gave 2-BONUS Targetmasters (Minicons); Orange Rung & Purple Cobra, Though I WISH I Bought The Kingdom Version... But DID NOT Want To Shell Out $45 For It.
I have the Spoiler Inside Magnus. I love him. But I agree with you on the ankles and 1000% agree with you on the transformation, plus my gun is also loosey goosey, but other than that, no other problems.
Ok 2 things. 1. The shin guns were released with magnus first then released later with galaxy upgrade so if it was meant for galaxy upgrade then case of pretooling. 2 and this is my opinion of the feet which if they could keep the feet straight then just have the wheels to flip underneath them thus having the wheels on the inner leg/foot region to keep them off the ground.
Now I don't feel silly for getting the TAKARA LEGENDS (COMBINER WARS) Ultra Magnus with the KuBianBao Core bot instead of the new versions. Thank you, TheLazyEyebrow!
I have a solution for the visible hand syndrome. If you tab the front of the trailer to the bit the backpack slides up, you don’t see the hands. But at the cost of nothing really tabs into the truck, and it looks like the truck is connected to the trailer.
Thank goodness I only have 1 of the Magnus mold and it's the Earthrise one which is close to the G1 and I still haven't opened it since getting for myself during Christmas lol.
I'm glad I skipped the Kingdom version of Ultra Magnus. I picked up the Siege and pre-ordered the Shattered Glass version, but skipped the Kingdom and Netflix Spoiler pack versions, which I don't regret.
I don’t know if you have two lemons or I have the 1 good copy, but my Kingdom Magnus hasn’t had any of the issues you’ve mentioned. The ratchets are still going strong, the tabs are solid and it’s super easy to get it into truck mode, and I did the fix where you put the forearm armor onto the hands which hides them quite nicely. However I do wish the cab articulated separately from the trailer, the little kid inside me wants to make the big truck drive around corners and not just in a straight line
the one thing the various magnus deco did had a very nice idea behind, if not fully working; all version have a problem, the inside bot was devolped first, with the armor as an add-on, instead of a big part of it basic siege, it's the cybertronian veicle, it works, arguably the better veicle. the kingdom is the full-on G1 convoy toy, but with a less convincing trailer the spoiler version deco go the undead version, with the splotches of grey in a robotic simulation of stereotipical decomposing from zombies, the takara verison of the same use a less contrasted color, but uniform trought the whole toy, acting more like the white/bluish shade of undead in the oriental folklore. less 'decomposition' more 'no liquid blood' the new version is inspiring, and it being basically 2 different versions at once, depending on which one you prefear, its a nice idea, but it will hardly be more than any of these are already
I hated the inner robot for this thing. I feel like it was more like Energon Oprimus than Cybertron, it had its stupid hands poking out despite being a Leader Class toy, and as much as I appreciate that they gave it RID01 Magnus's vehicle mode for Siege, its translation to G1 Magnus and Cybertron Prime just didn't work.
I know you mentioned that upgrade kits make the figure feel lanky, but I have the DNA Design Upgrade kit for Siege Magnus and it doesn't feel lanky in the least! Actually he feels much more proportionate to me, save for the feet. I will always recommend it, but I understand your reluctance
Maybe the mold degraded after the original Siege Magnus and Optimus toys, because my Siege Magnus doesn’t have any of the issues yours have. The leg ratchets are straight on mine, too.
I was going to ask if you've SS86 Ultra Magnus, and then I checked and saw you reviewed him 8 months ago, and then I saw that this video is 2 years old, and then I cried about how 2 years have passed without my noticing. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MEEEEEEEEEEEE? Baller review though.
What upsets me most about there being so many Magnus molds is that we only have one Ultra Mammoth mold. They can do so much more with Ultra Magnus and character develop. They brought him back in kingdom and then opted not to revive him as Ultra Mammoth. At least that would've justified the dumb cloak.
The siege/kingdom Magnus encapsulates everything I love about siege and everything I hate about earthrise - Siege is cool stylised takes on classic characters whilst still being easily recognisable, with quality paintwork and materials - earthrise is low effort garbage retools trying to force earth modes and cartoon accuracy out of figures that were never intended to be that As nice as 86 looks I’m still gonna keep my spoiler pack version because I’m a sucker for the armor up white prime gimmick
Also. One thing that i felt sorry for Kingdom Magnus is that he lacked extra weapons. Siege Magnus has his iconic blaster, shoulder rockets and 2 extra guns for his shins. Kingdom Magnus only comes with iconic blaster & rockets only.
Part of the problem with both Siege/Earthrise Ultra Magnus/Optimus Prime is that their vehicle modes are not scaled reasonably with the car robots. Thus you only have room for one and half cars on top of Magnus, and almost none of the deluxe figures will fit in Prime's trailer. At the moment I have Spoiler Ultra Magnus (intended to be repainted into Delta Magnus), ER Ultra Magnus, and ER Prime. But I'm very likely going to get a BPF Lieutenant (OS OK Siege Ultra Magnus) to use for a Delta Magnus instead. I'm planning to replace ER Prime with the KBB MP-10v + Trailer. And am eagerly waiting to see if it's true that we're getting a new mold for SS86 Ultra Magnus. In the mean time I'm getting BPF's Commander (OS KO Siege OP) and Overlord (KO OS Siege Megs). Commander is going to serve as the basis for a OS version of a custom G2 OP I saw recently that looked pretty damn cool. Overlord is to go with MP-10v. Ideally, I'd really like it if BPF made a similar OS OK of ER Prime, Megs, and Magnus, but for now I'll just have to work with what I have.
Could't hasbro just take earthrise optimus prime mold, make it white(double homage to dreamwave comics and return of optimus prime) and reshape the armor parts to fit the limbs? And it's strange that no one attempted to make a armor kit for that mold.
That was actually the initial plan based on rumors, but it got scrapped due to budget or the pandemic most likely. It would’ve been awesome if it did happen, but I bet it could’ve been a commander class at that point
I bought my kingdom magnus, and i love it. The legs are a bit loose on mine when armor is on, but can still hold poses, gun sucks, but is still love it. Sucks to hear that kingdom magnus broke on ya.
Thats why i bought bootleg version of that um. Considering that bootleg is bigger it cost only like 25 usd with shipping here in the philippines. The hasbro one is almost as same height of the recent release galvatron, it doesnt look good.
Thats why I replaced my spoiler with KFC citizen stack, came with toyhax stickers already installed, looks soo awesome I got a 3d printed ultra magnus hammerfor him. No more blocky limited articulation for me.
The back back on the smaller figure is a problem as when in armour mode it has to be pushed down and with the chunky legs..This means the character cannot move the knees back. The upgrade kit leads to more problems as it holds nothing in place.
I too, have both the Siege Netflix and Kingdom Ultra Magnus figures. Not out to play, just in their box packaging in my collection. They still look cool to me. -Oh yeah, there's that 1:59 Optimus Prime version from Takara Tomy. Honestly don't get what it's suppose to be either.
I have the clean siege one, sadly the albino prime’s leg broke at the hip “ratchet”, also, just wanna say I display him with the missiles down, to cover the gap on the side, and because to me, it just looks better, but hey, as Emgo316 would say, it’s your toy, display however you wish

@deathwingrocks5301Well without the Albino Prime, to _me_ it isn't Magnus. Magnus is Albino Prime with armor in my eyes.
Ultra Magnus needs the leg extensions, though. I mean, it’s nice having same-scale red and white Optimus Primes, but the leg extensions help out greatly when armored up.
Third party is slacking. We need a WFC scale EARTH MODE that looks like EARTH MODE, more in line with the cartoon/g1 toy!
I'm going the Lazy Eyebrow route. I have the Perfect Effect Core Magnus on the way, and then I'll be tracking down a T30 ultra Magnus
2:01 That’s masterpiece optimus prime 3.0?
The thing with the feet is because if they were flat either it couldn't roll in alt-mode or it would roll in robot mode. There is a 3D printed upgrade kit which I got which makes them flat, but it can just roll back and forwards now, which although amusing is odd.
The feet sculpted at an angle alone would drive my OCD nuts.
Gotta be honest the centre robot is cheap as hell, looks like an upscaled legends class figure, the stuff you'd find in bootlegs. Wish they made it transform a lot more for a "leader class".
Tightening the ratchets in the hips is a very easy fix. I used the paper off a crayon to strengthen the ratcheting system
7:04 You can squeeze it??? i thought it would tab al together and no weak loose parts
the backpack can be rather easily removed when you turn the waist at certain angle so I just consider it as part of the armor
Hard to believe coming back to this, that people are now having issues with the Commander class figure.
Galaxy Upgrade Prime is still one of my favorite Siege figures, along with Springer and selects C.D. Hot Shot.
I've got Kingdom Ultra Magnus. Think you got a bad copy because my legs dont rattle or have the weird ratchet issue.
For truck mode I put the rockets on top of the cab, and use the arm covers over the hands to hide them and it looks alot better.
My Kingdom Magnus' legs are perfectly fine
Pro tip: put the armor sleeves in the hand pegs backwards to cover the fists
Great video and review! I was thinking about getting one of the war for Cybertron Magnus's but didn't know if any of the molds were good
I Paid $25 For Spoiler One &
THEN Found Out That My
Sister Bought Me One For
My Birthday From The EXACT
Same Place & Gave 2-BONUS
Targetmasters (Minicons);
Orange Rung & Purple Cobra,
Though I WISH I Bought The
Kingdom Version... But DID NOT
Want To Shell Out $45 For It.
However I do wish the cab articulated separately from the trailer, the little kid inside me wants to make the big truck drive around corners and not just in a straight line
the one thing the various magnus deco did had a very nice idea behind, if not fully working; all version have a problem, the inside bot was devolped first, with the armor as an add-on, instead of a big part of it
basic siege, it's the cybertronian veicle, it works, arguably the better veicle. the kingdom is the full-on G1 convoy toy, but with a less convincing trailer
the spoiler version deco go the undead version, with the splotches of grey in a robotic simulation of stereotipical decomposing from zombies, the takara verison of the same use a less contrasted color, but uniform trought the whole toy, acting more like the white/bluish shade of undead in the oriental folklore. less 'decomposition' more 'no liquid blood'
the new version is inspiring, and it being basically 2 different versions at once, depending on which one you prefear, its a nice idea, but it will hardly be more than any of these are already
Can’t wait to see what Studio Series 86 does.
Prob just kingdom mag tbh
@@azy9057 Well look what they did for Arcee.
The spoiler pack does come with energon cubes. It’s in the container with the play doh. Not sure what the play doh is for but it fools a lot of fans.
Did you review Galaxy Upgrade Optimus? I thought that was a fun little figure…
Wish they would have parts-formed the smoke stacks so they weren't centered.
I actually had an issue recently with my spoiler Rung where he ball joint socket on his leg just fell apart
The siege/kingdom Magnus encapsulates everything I love about siege and everything I hate about earthrise
- Siege is cool stylised takes on classic characters whilst still being easily recognisable, with quality paintwork and materials
- earthrise is low effort garbage retools trying to force earth modes and cartoon accuracy out of figures that were never intended to be that
As nice as 86 looks I’m still gonna keep my spoiler pack version because I’m a sucker for the armor up white prime gimmick
To further the homage to RID Magnus, those black guns are supposed to be pegged in where you have his missiles currently in vehicle mode.
Also. One thing that i felt sorry for Kingdom Magnus is that he lacked extra weapons.
Siege Magnus has his iconic blaster, shoulder rockets and 2 extra guns for his shins.
Kingdom Magnus only comes with iconic blaster & rockets only.
So toy guy do you recommend the one with battle damage or the same version of it that doesn’t have battle damage? aka the siege one
I love the large robot mode, but the vehicle mode feels incomplete without any car-carrying ability.
So I was gonna buy this one but after this I was wondering is there any good budget magnus figure?
Could't hasbro just take earthrise optimus prime mold, make it white(double homage to dreamwave comics and return of optimus prime) and reshape the armor parts to fit the limbs? And it's strange that no one attempted to make a armor kit for that mold.
That was actually the initial plan based on rumors, but it got scrapped due to budget or the pandemic most likely. It would’ve been awesome if it did happen, but I bet it could’ve been a commander class at that point
voices around is that they tried, but it went overbudget in mass production
I bought my kingdom magnus, and i love it. The legs are a bit loose on mine when armor is on, but can still hold poses, gun sucks, but is still love it. Sucks to hear that kingdom magnus broke on ya.
The gun for my earth rise Magnus won’t stay in what do I do?
Just a question, would you recommend cybertron override or crosswise?
I didn’t even know the feet had a pivot bc his feet were at an angle I never bothered to check😭
I have the spoiler siege magnus but I have yet to figure out what the spoiler is
Thats why i bought bootleg version of that um.
Out of curiosity, what is your favorite Ultra Magnus mould? The only one I own and played with is the Combiner Wars one.
Combiner wars is fun. I also really like animated and the iron factory 2.0 magnus
I paid $25 for the regular siege. I've gotten my fun out of it for that price.
I have the clean siege one, sadly the albino prime’s leg broke at the hip “ratchet”, also, just wanna say I display him with the missiles down, to cover the gap on the side, and because to me, it just looks better, but hey, as Emgo316 would say, it’s your toy, display however you wish
