It's now 2024 and I just bought Almost Famous on 4k blu ray extended edition. This is one movie that gets better with age. The best R&R movie ever made. Cameron Crowe nailed every scene and the time line in this movie perfectly. Thank you Cameron for this brilliant masterpiece.
I just watched this movie...again...for like the 10th time. I was 10 years old in 1973. The music, the fashions, and the overall feel of this movie makes me feel like I’m home. ☺️
Levee is the obvious one, but listen to where the River goes by Stone Temple Pilots and you’ll almost be convinced they took the exact drum beat from that one and looped it, except for a few minor differences
Russell. Jeff. Ed. Larry. It's 2025, and we STILL really love your band! We think the song "Fever Dog" was a BIG step forward for you guys. We think you guys producing it yourselves, instead of Glyn Johns, was the RIGHT thing to do. And Russell! Russell, the guitar sound... is incindiary... Incendiary! waytogo.
incredible musicianship from the actors. They're not playing in the filming take on set but they did actually play the tunes in the studio for the film. So thats why it looks so real, coz theyre not miming theyre playbacking
The actors are not the talent playing the music, the guitar playing of russel hammond (who was played by Billy Crudup) is done by Mike McCready (from Pearl Jam), ex Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson (Crowe’s wife) plays rhythm guitar for the group. Peter Framptom wrote much of the music itself with Cameron Crowe. Great actors but they are not actually playing.
@2:20 During this solo, he has the pickup selector in the wrong position. It may seem like a small detail, but to a Les Paul player who can hear that it should not have been in the bridge position to get that tone, I can't unsee it every time I watch this, one of my favorite movies. 👽🤘
Huh? Did you just listen to the song Fever dog? Sure sounded like a REAL song to me even if the band in the movie was not a real band. Someone played the song. Someone sang the vocal track. It was recorded for the movie. Like the songs in the Eddie and the Cruisers movies...
@Chemdrysouthwestcolorado it's actually a direct ripoff of When The Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin. Identical drumming and same chords structure but a couple of steps lower so he could hit the vocals
We take all kinda pills that give us all kinda thrills But the thrill we've never known Is the thrill that'll getcha When you get your picture on the cover of the rolling stone 🎵

But didn't they have Peter Frampton and others teaching them how to play? I belive I saw some behind the scenes where Billy Crudup talks about how awsome it was to have Peter Frampton as mentor

The touches seem just right for the era: the band's from the Midwest (the center of rock in America at the time), the drums and guitar licks are exactly what a typical player then would do, the omnipresent Les Paul (Fenders were kind of out at that time), singer looking like Purple-era David Coverdale, and the band looks cool, but still a little green- the guitarist hasn't got his style down yet, he looks like he could be in Poco or Bread.
True the band Still Water was not a real band. But those songs they played in the movie and are on soundtrack are real songs.. I put a few of umm on for my mother once and she started singing away to Fever dog cuz all the songs that they say are from Still Water are from a band she used to listen to when she was in her teen years. Can't remember the real bands name but they weren't very big
I swear they mustve modeled this band after the band Free! Jason Lee looks just like a young Paul Rodgers. Obviously Billy Crudup is playing the role of lead guitarist Paul Kossoff. Even the drummer looks a lot like Simon Kirke.
The perfect transition song between mother love bone and pearl jam, which obviously influenced Cameron Crowe in Singles. So either they were totally retro or Stillwater was way ahead of its time. Or both.
This movie no joke got me kicked out of court ordered rehab as a minor. I had only a bit to do with it lol. I just wanted a day or two. Mom rented this on vhs. A week later i went back to my Shit in bags and tons missing.
If you watched this movie when it came out and your still listening to it and watching it you are like me, old and still partying. Tiny dancer is next.

the extended version of this movie is the best version ever. it's such a rock n roll experience
whats on the extended version?
Didnt realize how much was missing til I watched the extended version. So good and really ties some loose ends of the original together
Extended only. No compromise.
@@grafflixx so much more character development

Hello Rose how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
My husband and I just watched it again. We graduated from HS in 1973. It’s like a great trip down memory lane. Love the music.
I feel like that when I watch the Goonies
born in 62. great memories.
Almost Famous and Rockstar with Wahlberg are two of my fave movies portraying fictitious rock bands.
You should watch Still Crazy, if you can get your hands on it.
Rockstar is loosely based on Rob Halford and Judas Priest if not what really happened.
Spinal Tap. lol
I’d have to say Dewey Cox and Spinal tap for me
Rockstar is underrated
the best imagined band ever!)
lexey perepelkin you do know that Stillwater was a real band just not the guys in the movie lol

The greatest band that never existed
Nancy Wilson wrote some really great songs and Frampton and company made an unbelievable band. We want more!
Going to see Frampton, for the 3rd time, this March.
@@winnie7801 Excellent! Should be a fun show.
Nancy Wilson of Heart? I didn’t know she or Frampton were involved in this!
I always get the intro of this song mixed up with ‘when the levee breaks’ by Led Zeppelin
I do believe it's very much intentional
Yes, definitely from the same drum intro and beyond...
For me, I hear the riff of "In the light" from this intro chords
Levee is the obvious one, but listen to where the River goes by Stone Temple Pilots and you’ll almost be convinced they took the exact drum beat from that one and looped it, except for a few minor differences
I can still hear him scratching at the back door in 2022! Love this song
Billy Crudup had no right being that fine...he looked too damn good in that movie! 😍
He must’ve based his look on Dicky Betts
Jeff Bebe said Russell’s looks were becoming a problem. 😂
I had the biggest crush on him.

Amazing to see on this videos comments no mention of who the surprising writer of this song was. Nancy Wilson of Heart.
I shall retain that
Thanks for that. Did Heart ever play it?
👍
Funny, because it has a Ted Nugent sound to it.
Even more surprising to find out that Nancy is actually the directors wife!

This was an outstanding film and great tune no doubt! Rock Music is a beautiful thing!
I'm actually watching this movie right now!
This is a mashup of when the levee breaks and bullet in the blue sky. And I’ll forever love it.
Bullet the Blue Sky is pretty much Strangle Hold by Ted Nugent.

Mike McCready from Pearl Jam is the one that plays the guitar on this song. Fucking awesome!!!

Pearl Jam Guitarist Mike Mccready Provided The Guitar Tracks For The Stillwater Songs!
i dont think thats right. on the dvd it shows peter frampton showing them and the artists actually played their own instruments
Bj Ellison I t might have been both of them. McCready definitely did play in these songs, but I’m not sure if he’s the only guitarist.
I heard framton taught the actors to play.
Frampton taught them how to play. The guy from Pearl Jam actually wrote and record the gutairs.
Not true, I did played the rhythm and lead tracks on this cut. NOT!!!!!
The ode to Neil Young's "Time Fades Away" album cover at 0:36 is delightful

@@edb6690 Soundgarden started in ‘84, they were the first on a major label and MLB formed a few years after.
Yes! I've thought this before. I can hear more 'mother love bone' in this than I can any 70s band.

Though this song is based on Led Zeppelin's song " When the levee breaks " speaking about the beats/riffs but yet Fever Dog is still rocking on.

Yeah that opening drum section is....When then levee breaks by Zepplin
Bullet the Blue Sky by U2? Except without that "busted snare drum" sound.
