@ and it looks like it was right off the road I saw cars going by good for you for finding a spot on X is great. I live in Florida a travel to Montana, North Dakota and various other states with my two German Wirehair at 74 years old keep going don’t give up.
What a beautiful place Thomas! I’ve been waiting to watch these hunts! Leroy did just fine on his casting. It’s amazing how much that degrades in real hunts bs training. It’s a constant battle to keep them sharp during hunts.
@@FreelanceDuckHunting it’s so easy to see the incredible owner training that went into those (Georgie, Leroy (jenkiiiins), outdoor limits)pups. They truly are such amazing and malleable animals, literal extensions of our own will. Those consistent daily 15 minute sessions are sure showing in them dogs. Great job all of you guys. Love may be LABorious, but it sure makes the work easy when they make it so fun. Mind if I share an off season video idea with you?
@ I honestly have no idea if it was intended, but that name said in Leroy Jenkins style had tears of laughter from me. He was hunting with BW if I remember.
Great hunting video. I really appreciate your narration of what you’re doing and what you’re thinking. I am newer to hunting and I’m learning a ton when you talk as you do. I have a dog partner too that I’m training and growing with in the sport. Your interactions with Leroy are awesome.
I got to see one of your many different scenery of hunt and this one is by far one of the best ones I have ever seen. Leroy is so cool to watch when you gave him a hand command and found the bird in blind retrieve. Awesome, awesome, awesome to watch.
Hike outdoors, your videos keep me entertained all the time and keep me chasing ducks all the time after watching alit of your videos I always scout even off season, and you never make boring videos your videos are always fun to watch(Leroy is a goat!!!!!!!)
I am 16 years old and I live in Idaho too. I have so many spots to go duck hunting. We just got 3 feet of snow so its a little difficult to get to some spots but its worth it.
Man the scenery on this vid! Gotta love God for all that amazing packed into one moment. If I ever make it up your way and hunt with ya, please let me send Leroy on one retreive, an old world of Warcraft player can’t help but love that name.
Next time you’re out west, you should make the drive to California. Despite what people think of when they hear the word “California”, we do have some of the most incredible duck hunting in the country. If you can scout and find birds in Idaho then you could be extremely successful here as well!
I've been wanting to hunt CA for a couple seasons actually! I'm hoping I can make the trip out there next year. How's the season been for you down there so far this year?
Well I posted yesterday that the bull cans “were a hunt of a lifetime!” Not so sure this one with the views and harvest wasn’t just as good? Romans 1:20 offers that by viewing creation you have to know there is a God!!! That view says exactly that! Best Thomas! Great hunts, great dog work, great videos!
Thanks Mark, much appreciated! The backdrop on this one definitely made it feel a little more special to me! Hunting in those mountains offers a very humbling perspective on how small we are in comparison to His creation
Spectacular hunt!! Classic red leg monster mallard hunt!! Good job Thomas and Leroy!! Really enjoyed this one!! First time in Idaho? Beautiful Scenery!!!
Nice! I dont know about Idaho but in Nevada we still have a month to hunt ducks. Great video. Back drop is like hunting here some places have Sierra Nevada in back ground
I dont care what stage of waterfowling your at in life. But you need to at one point experience waterfowling in the mountains especially when theres snow on them. Its something youll never forget
Thanks Robert! It's been an incredible season with him but we have a lot of work to do this offseason. He should be an even better retriever come next fall if all goes to plan!
@HokeOutdoors it has been a slow season so far, we haven't had a decent push of weather from the north to push alot of new birds south. Yes I love living here it is amazing ! Danke! Tatsächlich gibt es in den USA viele gut ausgebildete Hunde, aber die meisten, die man im Internet sieht, sind es leider nicht. Ich schätze die netten Worte über Leroy!
When a dog blows off your whistle sit and then doesn't take your Bring him back in like you did is the best way to break his momentum and then he'll take your cast so you did well. Attrition is always a good tool. No sense of making excuses he didn't take your cast. Just whistle sit him bring him in sit him and cast him like he did it's perfect
Hahah they were both pretty fun! The differences in locations and styles is one of my favorite things about waterfowling! You never know where it's going to take you
I had my Chesapeake break on me this year after NOT breaking all summer in training. Curious. How would you go about fixing the problem? I heard you say you were thinking about not sending the dog for the first retrieve? Enjoyed watching. Those leads seemed about a couple feet? About how far were you? Tough to tell watching the video. Cool Hunt
Thanks Jim! The best way to stop breaking from my very limited experience is by applying pressure when they're breaking with the e-collar and denying the retrieve. Most those shots were from 15-25 yards, I don't think I shot one past 30
thank you. I’m thinking you use decoy range choke? Do you have a favorite shell to or that range? I bought a invisaman chair blind you reviewed. Can or do you have a video on how you placed cover on the blind so that you can still open the flaps to shoot? Hunting with the dog is cool to watch.
GREAT hunt! And, the backdrop was not too shabby. I appreciated the effort you made to have an unbelievable day. Look forward to your future hunts. Where were you in ID? 👍
I meant to say that good for you to make Leroy sit & hold after breaking. I now have my 4th lab & no way you can do what you did w/o him. I hunt the marshes of northern UT, am 77 & totally rely on my lab, Ripley. Good for you!
Idaho hasn’t been very great this year in my opinion it’s been slowly dying out every year when I go out there but others may say different.. Great hunt though!
That hunt was a Prime on the X spot!! OMG! I hope you get another hunt out of that marsh on your trip. On the last greenhead, i thought you were going to shoot a wing off your spinner! Thanks for the great video! We are not having that kind of shoot in the Willamette valley yet this year.
Thanks Don! I didn't end up hunting this same marsh again on this trip but hunted a couple different spots that were close by. Hope the hunting picks up for you in the valley soon!
@@HokeOutdoors IT did this past Saturday! We had enough rain to flood a harvested wild rice field and the ducks were everywhere. We limited by 9:30. I shot seven widgeon-5 drakes.Best hunt of the season and Jasper, my buddies yellow lab was so jazzed to have 14 ducks to retrieve!!
Even if you never fired a shot, the scenery was worth every minute. Thanks for sharing. Best duck hunt video this year on TH-cam

Thanks Elliot! It definitely has fallen off from the start of the season but I certainly should've run a lot more blinds with him this summer too!
It gives me something to focus on for our offseason work though which should be helpful given my lack of motivation when it comes to training!

My wife's family all lives in Mountain Home, this Florida boy is always astounded how beautiful that state is.
You gotta get up there for Thanksgiving or Christmas one year and somehow sneak your duck hunting stuff in the trunk!
A nice little North Idaho duck hunt. In ole Blue Lagoon as we call it.
Haha it lives up to the name, cool spot for sure!
