    This still seems like a weird business model. Even a GTS 450 has some used value. How much are they spending with the new shroud and hacked bios? Maybe they are getting cards with broken shrouds/fans for almost nothing.

    • @Mini-z1994
      @Mini-z1994 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm guessing they scrap the ones with heatpipe coolers for money & then put on cheaper generic heatsinks & get a mass order of gpu fans put through, flash the bios, slap on cooler & done.
      I wouldn't mind if they actually resold the cards as genuine gts 450's or whatever real gpu is on there for like 25 - 30 usd or so like you could find in general otherwise if not cheaper then that & have some proper benchmarks of say CS GO, GTA V, Fortnite 720p etc with a bit better designed vrm & pushing the overclock slightly.

    • @DawidDoesTechStuff
      @DawidDoesTechStuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Maybe there is a huge amount of loose GTS 450 GPUs around that they can get for really cheap? I do agree though, it does seem pretty weird

    • @lexavaritia7596
      @lexavaritia7596 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is what im thinking too myself. There is an abundance of GTS 450 here in asia that comes from china as well. One of my speculation is that they had this GTS 450 chips only from broken card they dismantled the parts with. But they know making a "BRAND NEW" gts 450 won't boost the sales of this so they turn into scamming and tricking people for a much more recent card (GTX 1050). They could have done better but they do this

    I've seen a lot of these dubious graphics cards on amazon.co.uk recently as well - as soon as I see the VGA port, I laugh and click away. They are also often similarly priced, like $5-15 difference between a real 1050ti and a fake 1050ti, for example. People always think that by getting something cheaper, that it must be a good deal, meanwhile it isn't. Rather spend the extra money and get a genuine card from a genuine seller.
    My basic rules for buying online:
    1. Look for a high number of positive reviews. Yes, some of those can be faked obviously, but most scammers won't attempt to upload a lot of fake reviews as it's too time-consuming.
    2. Price-check over a few sources. If it looks too low in comparison, it's likely a scam.
    3. Do your background on the seller. Visit their actual company website. If that is broken, you'd have reason to be suspicious.

    Loved the video, thanks for sharing and taking the time to do these. I've noticed the Amazon scams in MANY other markets, not just GPUs and its actually becoming quite sad to see. I've been a loyal Amazon enthusiast for years now and unfortunately we honestly can't trust anything we buy from them. I have gotten numerous products that are sold, shipped and handled by Amazon themselves that were low quality, fake/clones, knock offs, etc. And not just in electronics. Home goods, water filtration systems, things that people are buying with the intention of improving their health and wellbeing. I suspect maybe even the employees at their distribution centers are replacing legitimate products with cheap, poorly made look alikes, because I almost always order the "ship by amazon" items due to the 2 day shipping... keep up the good work brother, people need to know the truth and take the time to authenticate anything they are buying. Although sometimes even that isn't feasible. Thank you good sir. Many blessings I pray are sent your way.

    If you really want to get scammed, go on to the Amazon warehouse, and buy a graphics card or PC component from there. There are a lot of return scams going on on Amazon right now, and since Amazon does not verify the contents of a package or the details of the contents in many cases, you can buy a brand new 2018 TI, refund it and send back your old graphics card, and they just relisted on Amazon warehouse deals as a new 2080 TI. That means the next person to get your graphics card gets screwed. I quit buying parts from Amazon warehouse, because of returns scams.

    I wonder if this is some kind of money laundering scam.
    I'm just thinking the prices are so low and the amount of effort that goes into these scam cards is actually pretty high, so I find it hard to believe they do much beyond breaking even. I could see this being something like the laundering client putting in dirty money to 'manufacture' the cards, and then the launderer keeping either a certain percentage or just all of the profits made by the cards as their fee.

    The one way that Amazon can control scammers would be if payments have to go through Amazon itself (ie. Amazon acts as the middleman between payments). Then I think it would be better but most of this is automated and likely handled by a separate credit card processor that works with Amazon.

    From fake GPU's and CPU, I've noticed that those from Amazon specifically are almost always sanded down.
    Though not from Wish or eBay.

    8:54 - I'm sure you're completely aware, the scammers are buying advertisement (the Sponsored [i] under the image), and according to cost per click it's about $0.34-1.34 per (USD) user who clicks the link.

    Just found and 1-starred another scam 1050ti on Amazon US. Seller has about a 50% satisfaction score, and the branding is known for selling.. art supplies. Yeah, a gaming graphics card certainly qualifies for that, right? Not to mention they couldn't even detail the card right, claiming 4 gigs of DDR5. Not GDDR5, DDR5. Maybe I should try sticking that thing in one of my DIMM slots, huh?

    I don’t understand how they could make a profit from this. I sell products on amazon, including brand new GPUs, primarily from EVGA, and amazon doesn’t make your money available in your account until a week after your item has been confirmed to have been delivered. And that is to prevent you from not sending a product or selling a fake product, such as these. So it amazes me how these scammers could believe they’ll make money through amazon. They also usually only deposit your money from your amazon account into your personal or business account on a two-week period each month.

    Useful tips to remove marking on die, just use sandpaper.
    I used it on 6200 TurboCache and it worked. I would try it on gt 1030, shall i do it?

    I got scammed last year at best buy. Bought a new in the box RX570... unsealed the box when I got home, was a used 2 series AMD that someone had "hot glued" a six power power port to the board and slapped a rx560 sticker on the back. Best buy customer service crapped their pants when they found out

    I got scammed more on amazon than aliexpress, ebay and bunch of other chinese websites.
    On top of that I always was able to get some kind of compensation on all those sites, but not on Amazon.

    Definitely fix the card and then compair it to the one from wish and see which performs better. And see if you can get sli working with the two cards. Sounds like a fun idea to me.

    The thing is if you tell Amazion that something is a scam they will refund you and cancel the selling of said item. I know this cause the scam 18650s made it to Amzon and I had them removed. I knew when I bought them that they were a scam. They were 9900mah. I figured they would be something like 1000 to 2200 but they were worse than that they last about 5 mins before dying while still reporting they have a full battery. this makes them something like 1to10mah I can't remember but they are bad.

    I think the new Nvidia drivers made your system crash, Dawid.
    I got a new 1660 super the other day, installed the newest drivers and my pc froze and crashed regardless of what it was doing, i installed older ones after uninstalling the newer ones and it works like a dream.

    What a coincidence! I just bought this card, which I actually intended. I have built a new 3900X system, transferred my existing 5700XT into it, and put this fake GPU into my 3800X system which I turned into a NAS server. I will also be returning the 5700XT into my old PC when the Big Navi releases, which I will be installing into my 3900X system.
