      As I recall it was a request from Meryl Streep, as she wanted it to sound more honest, and not have any of the cast worrying about their voices. It worked because the entire cast and producer etc have said they are happy to do a third movie.

    All the villagers (in the movie and the on-stage version) represent the chorus in traditional (like ancient lol) Greek drama. That's why they all did the weird laugh when Donna said something like "it's like a weird trick of fate" and why they're ALWAYS around ❤

    • @steamdespair9189
      @steamdespair9189 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +30

      Okay that's a better explanation than what I thought that they were the last vestiges of the Greek gods... hence the Aphrodite fountain eruption at the wedding reception. lol

    • @PhilomenaPhantomheart
      @PhilomenaPhantomheart 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      @steamdespair9189 actually you're right. They're meant to be the olympian gods getting up to modern mischief and the fountain errupting is the return of the flow of good energy to the island to show that prosperity returns now that Donna's heart is open again. So yes, in a way they're a greek chorus representation, but they're confirmed by the producers of the musical from all the way back to the original on stage performances that they're the Greek Gods. So in a way you're both right.

    I recall seeing some interview with Amanda Seyfried around the time Mamma Mia released when she said she had been approached by either Benny Andersson or Bjorn Ulvaeus (or both) about creating a pop album. She would sing songs he (or they) wrote. She also said she didn't feel confident enough in her voice to even consider the offer, and respectfully declined.
    Funny thing is, there was a TH-cam video for Vanity Fair, where Amanda Seyfried rewatched scenes from her films (Mamma Mia, Les Miz, Mean Girls & others), and she said the biggest problem with Mamma Mia was not feeling confident in her voice as she hadn't done a lot of singing when she got the job. That, and the hellacious choreography of the entire "Voulez-Vous" sequence that was a nightmare.
    Yet, she also did Les Miz and Mamma Mia 2...
    Pierce Brosnan does some singing of Irish songs in the drama "Evelyn" (2002), and in the film he also lets loose with his real accent (as Pierce is Irish).

Never change this about yourself or try to diminish it, because you're the best!! It's SO lovely and cute and refreshing to hear you being genuinely concerned about the real life implications of whatever's happening on screen. I loved this episode, it was an honor to accompany you in your first watch of Mamma Mia! because I'm the friend that presented this to anyone who would let me when I was younger. I cannot believe you haven’t seen mamma Mia before now. I was 5 when the movie came out and my mum bought me the dvd and I watched it so much I wore it out and she had to buy me a new one. It’s been my favourite movie for 15 years and will always be my comfort movie. I am obsessed. I will never get tired of it and that movie introduced me to abba and I love them too. I went to see the second one in the cinema so many times. Mamma Mia is one of my personality traits frrrr. This movie means so much to me. On TH-cam you can find a deleted song between Sophie and Bill, that happens ok the beach, at the bachelorette party.
    The fact that they have a song basically confirm that Bill is her father but they choose to delete it so the mystery is still here and the end is more relevant!

    What I love about this movie is how much homage they payed to ancient greek plays with the villagers acting as the chorus and commentators.
    The reason the villagers laughed when Donna made her comment about fate is because that was a huge theme in Greek theatre, whether it was comedy or tragedy. It was meta, in line with the best traditions of Greek plays.
