I love that stadium. I used to live a couple blocks away in 1990. I went to every home game that year and stayed afterward to get autographs. I got the whole Panthers squad that year! I moved back to the USA in 91 and didn't return until 2023! Had scooners with Roycie Simmons at the club and met my hero Greg Alexander. The best memories I have are at that old Penrith Park. As you can see, I met Nathan too! 😊 I'm glad I got to see it one more time.

As a Penrithian, $309 million to increase the capacity by 2,500? From (22,500 to 25,000). Given that this year alone they have attracted crowds up to 21,500, and they expect this stadium to have a 30 year lifespan, they have left themselves with virtually no room to increase attendance numbers over that 30 years at all.
Penrith’s current population of just over 205,000. Penrith population is expected to reach over 369,000 by 2041 and this stadium is expected to last until 2054, so how is it supposed to handle that demand? WTH?

I think it's important for the NRL to really embrace the local stadiums. While it might be seen as a weakness to not be playing against a backdrop 40k+ fans, it has great potential as a point of differentiation. 20k at the local ground is as powerful a crowd as 60k at the CBD stadium 50km away that isn't really your own stomping grounds.

Should never have been approved. Both state and federal government should instead build a new 40,000 stadium near the Western Sydney Airport / Aerotropolis, to be perfectly positioned on transport infrastructure - mid way between Penrith and Campbelltown. Then Sydney would be well catered to with 3 major standard stadiums, Western Sydney, Parramatta and SFS, plus the Olympic stadium for the big occasions (replace it down the track).
Penrith and the Tigers, possibly the Bulldogs, could share the new stadium.

Imagine, state govt looking after three top notch mid sized stadiums in Sydney and one big one = Western Sydney, Parramatta and SFS as a sort of 3 cities blueprint, plus the big Olympic one in the middle.
Then outside Sydney it’s: Wollongong, Gosford and Newcastle with midsized stadiums too.
And what do you know, those are the major population centres of NSW covered with world class facilities yet the NRL hasn’t even fully committed to all of those places - instead we see teams playing at Kogarah, Leichhardt etc etc. just dumb and wasteful tax spending.

Is Penrith likely to land and support an A-League and Super Rugby club (or enough fixtures) to match the justification of CommBank Stadium?

I feel the panthers stadium would be a perfect choice for it since the goal lines can just whack a few stands and off we go (bit like newcastle stadium). I would like to see combank being used but to upgrade to 40k would be a lot harder since you would have to tear the roof off and whatnot to add more stands.
I say the Panthers Stadium is a worthwhile upgrade, even without a fifa world cup (or some random big event of that nature) in the near future. And the way they upgrade it isn't too rigid that its allow to expand crowd numbers if need to.

The reason given for keeping the hills is utter crap. No one wants to stand in the rain, and to say that a lot of the capacity of the ground is the standing room on the hills is also untrue. There has to be another reason why they are throwing money at a problem that doesn't exist. (It's most likely a political reason)
I have been a season ticket holder at this ground for 30 years and I can tell you there is nothing wrong with the existing grandstands. They are both structurally sound. The western stand was built around 1978, the eastern in the late 80's. If stands were built to replace the grass hills the capacity would increase by at least 8000 and play could continue at the ground while construction occurs and it sure as hell wouldn't cost 300 million.

NRL has plenty of money, so does the gambling industry (pokies and betting) that fund it. My taxes shouldn't be paying a cent towards this single use stadium.

The gambling industry does not fund the NRL. The majority of its income comes from TV rights. And the government isn’t giving the NRL anything. The stadium is owned by the State and anyone who uses it has to pay rent.
