@@ryanadventureeverything8758 @MikeR55 @GrizzlyDude That tent was honestly a lifesaver. It rained so much my swag would have been a soggy mess. There I was tiny bit of water ingress through the zippers, but no pooling or anything. I was running the diesel heater so condensation wasn't a problem at all, even with the two dogs. Definitely the hardest part of the RTT is getting 70lb Charlie up there, but currently looking at picking up some iKamper stairs. Still more testing to do but so far I'd say I'm pretty much converted.

I camped three sometimes four weekends per month April through October for eight years at the motorcycle road race tracks when I was racing here in the east
I actually wore tents and sleeping bags out.
I said that I had done that for eight years, actually it was only about two years of camping inside the infield with hundreds of other racers camping. Some of them had 40 foot long air-conditioned RVs. Some of them slept inside their pick up truck, some of them slept in tents.
it was OK at first, but you get a little tired of Porta, Johns, cold water, only out of a hose, loud stereo, music from many directions, and smoke smoke smoke from stinky campfires of people that don’t know how to make a fire that doesn’t smoke so much.. sometimes the partiers would be still going at 3 AM, doing donuts and burnouts. There were no police or guards there. There was never any violence, it’s just it. It was just one big party for a lot of the people and I was serious about my racing. So I would actually drive home if it was within 3 Hours drive.. I would drive to the racetrack, leaving at 5 AM on Saturday morning, I would get there usually around 8 AM, register, go through tech inspection, drivers meeting, practice, run my heat race to get my starting position for Sunday, then I would pack up and go home, that was usually around 2 PM, I would arrive home around 5 PM. I would have a nice dinner, shower, sleep in my own bed…, No parties, no burnouts, no loud music, no smoke, no bugs, no Porta Johns..
Sunday morning I would get up around 5 AM, head back to the whichever track I was racing at that weekend, go out and do some tire pressure, checks and plug readings, run my race, collect my trophy, and head for home, and I would be back home before dinner on Sunday. I never stuck around for the podium ceremonies, because if all three ambulances were gone for any length of time, they had to stop the races, because there we’re no medical emergency personnel on site. They always stopped the races when all the ambulances were gone… which pretty much happened half the time. So if I had stuck around for the end of the day podium ceremonies, I wouldn’t get out of there till almost 9 o’clock at night sometimes…
I was not there to make friends, I wasn’t there for the social aspect like about 90% of the other people were there for. The party. And that’s fine. They had their priorities, and I had mine.
during those eight years, I won six championships, two time national champion so I achieved my goals. And I also got my fill of camping…
i’m one of those people that takes a shower, and hast to get into clean sheets, while my hair is still damp from the shower. I could never understand how someone could do something like cut grass all day on a Saturday, get all sweaty, working in the yard, without a shirt on, then have a few beers, and then., just get in bed without taking a shower.. YuCK..

Sous vide is my secret weapon for camp cooking, or at least preparation. The chicken thighs are a great example in this video. You know the chicken is cooked 100%. Also, you don't have to worry about raw chicken contaminating your ice chest or fridge. Lots of things you can sous as well. I highly recommend for meal prep when camping.

When I first saw RTTs I was like man that's cool, but as an avid camper the more I thought about it the less I liked the idea. Want to run to town or go on a trail ride, gotta pack up camp, swamp the vehicle and have to spend a night waiting for an evac or recovery, tents in the swamp with the rig, high winds, and it's going to be harder to find somewhere to setup with a natural wind break.
A real tent or hammock setup is way more versatile, in the winter or shoulder seasons I swap out my hammock for my hot tent, definitely not going to burning a woodstove in a RTT, in really bad storms or if my tent becomes damaged etc.., it's easy to fly a tarp over top for more water resistance, a lot more difficult to do that when you're tent is way up on top of your rig, probably near impossible without a ladder to reach an appropriate height.
Sorry you had such a wet sleep, that roof definitely needs some kind of support, either through poles, or some kind of guy lines that pull it taught. Seems like a designer oversight. I've seen many RTTs that seem like they're fully designed to look cool but not really well through out as an actual shelter system.

Yes unfortunately condensation is an issue always due to the heat build up inside and the cooler weather outside - like how windows in your house will get moisture on the inside on a cold night. I’ve found those little containers of moisture absorbing pellets work a treat in my canopy box - may pay to try a couple in there. Only $3 at our dollar stores here in Sydney Australia. 👍👍

Seems like a silly question but are you sure it’s set up properly, there is a lot of water coming in to the tent. Was it purchased new or used, sorry for all the questions but I purchased (haven’t picked it up yet) the Roofnest Condor Overland 2 XL. There has to be some sort of explanation for this tent to be leaking like that. Was it put away wet and it then possibly froze splitting a seam or something? There has to be a valid explanation as to why. Keep us posted Casey, thanks for the videos.

I am not sure why but it accumulated a massive pool on the roof which is why it was leaking and thats what I pushed off. This was the biggest rain storm ive had it in. It seems like the center is sagging and then collecting water. Im working on a video about the tent.

The budget tent beside you that cost 4 or 5 times less than yours seem to withstand the storm so clearly it’s a Roofnest issue. Thanks for keeping us informed. I hope Roofnest is more concerned about this issue than we are as they should be. This is very concerning as a $5000 plus rtt tent should not be leaking no matter how severe the rainstorm is. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue with their Roofnest Condor 2.

The $5000 tent is the protection! That’s why he bought it, to keep him dry. You’re totally missing the point. The budget tent beside him didn’t have any protection either and was fine! At the beginning of the video when he was showing the inside of the tent it was all wet. He said it was condensation. It wasn’t condensation it was water! He then said that the hard top was full of water and it was sloshing around inside of it. He wanted to drill a hole in it to allow the water to drain out of it. That is not normal and means there is a leak in the hard cover. Nobody takes there mattress out of the tent in fear of it getting wet with condensation. If you’re not in the tent there will not be any condensation. So he is very well aware of the leak.

Locked gate and the backcountry closed. Welcome to Vancouver Island with the all powerful logging companies keeping British Columbians out of (our) really cool places. I understand why we have to keep people out in the fire season but they've gated all the forestry campsites all winter (from Cowichan to Port Alberni at least) rendering beautiful and safe places unusable. Really makes it challenging for the average person to get their kids out winter camping, when you can have a fire. Not interested in Provincial sites at $35. a night with all the masses. Its madning for those of us who grew up here and heartbreaking too.

So this tent you ran on this trip ... Is that the one in the Cheap vs Expensive video? Or is Gretchen running that one? And how did they fair in that beautiful BC weather? (Folks from Washington State would know what its like) ... You may mention it cuz im at 25:38. Maybe thats another video subject? You and Gretchen talking of how the tents held up in sour weather. They ALL work great on nice weekends and its the weather like this that we all wonder about (how they hold up). And how would an expensive one do in that weather... Like your Alu-Cab. ... I'm surprised you don't have an awning! That's the real reason we have the awning, not really for shade, but for when the skies open up on us.

    • @Gretchen_Trouble
      @Gretchen_Trouble 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I am running the Topoak (the budget one). It held up pretty well considering how much it rained, but I was also running my diesel heater, so that kept it warm and dry inside. I did get a small amount of water ingress from the zippers, but no pooling or anything.

Not a great showing by Roofnest that's for sure. And while I'm sure Roofnest will reach out to you and do the right thing, I have to wonder if non-famous average folks would fare the same. And while I love the look of RTTs, I'm a bit more practical and stick with a Gazelle T-4 that's never once let me down in any weather--rain, wind, thunderstorms, etc, and it affords a ton of living space when I'm out solo. Easier to get up 3x a night to take care of business, too (:::grumbles in Geezer:::).
