BABC Christmas parties were the best. Used to go every year in Beverly Hills. My employer sponsored a table. Joan Collins was the speaker one year. She referred to herself and us as straddling the Atlantic-we couldn’t stop laughing-quite an image.
I'm a professional Santa and often serve "mixed" families: Children of American and British parents. North Pole vs Lapland comes up all the time. I tell them I live at the north pole, but summer in Lapland.
Good speech 😊 As an Aussie, my Christmas 'culture' (and culture in general) is partway between the US and Britain. I enjoy your quirky humour & comparing the Aussie way of life with your observations of the US vs Britain.
Well done on the speech Laurence. Growing up in Australia across the other pond, Boxing Day was the only holiday that had no traditions attached. It was just an excuse to make Christmas one of two four-day weekends each year.
@@SevenHunnid see I'd love to do that, but I don't have the spoons (read spoon theory by Christine Miserandino on ButYouDontLookSick) to put on the makeup needed to be acceptable to the world. The first time I watched "Love, Actually", which has become my second favorite Christmas movie behind Die Hard, the gallery owner shows up to profess his love for Keira Knightly. He holds up a sign saying "Tell him it's Carol Singers." Now I had been paying close attention so I could keep up the individual stories. However, when I saw that sign I had to pause the movie and say "Wait! Who the hell is Carol Singers?" I even checked the cast list on IMDB, no Carol Singers. Being born and raised here in New Jersey I had never heard that term as we just call them Carolers, just another message I found "Lost in the Pond." Happy Christmas everyone!
Re question at 10:45 about Brits adopting North Pole origin story for Santa: Already in the 1920s J.R.R. Tolkien was already using this in the _Letters from Father Christmas_ that he faked for his children (see the posthumous book by that title). One of the fictitious characters in the letters was the North Polar Bear who lived with F.C. at the pole.
Good on you mate. We need to keep the "Special Relationship" healthy. Aside from COVID crap, the UK and US should have very lenient travel and living arrangements.
@@christineperez7562 you're both kinda right. The restrictions did drastically increase after 9/11 on both sides, but it's also increased just as much due to covid. We could debate all day long which country has been more restrictive than the other and never reach a consensus because it's insanely complex and depends on a ton of factors. That said I think it's clear that, with the glaring exception of the spread of disease we've seen recently, increased access and ability to travel to and even reside and work in other countries would be a benefit to the world. Soon I hope we'll be able to choose which country to reside in and we'll see a massive shift towards responsible governments as each works to attract new and retain current citizens. What a charming and entertaining speech. (And such a well-produced video!) My British grandmother used to always have Christmas crackers sent over from England. We always enjoyed them. Even the paper crowns.
It is not really a thing here. Maybe a few people do them. But I wouldn't even know where to look for them. The paper crowns look fun, though my kids would tear them instantly.
Congratulations Laurence on a job well done! So sorry that you have so many cherished Christmas traditions that you have not been able to celebrate for the past 13 years....but at least you have those memories to share with all of us, and through you we also get a chance to enjoy them. We are really a blessed people to have you as one of our own in the USA. May you have a very joyous, merry and blessed Christmas.
Oh, Laurence, having been born and raised there I can attest that you've become a real Chicagoan. Your speech was littered with "ya know"s 😄. Thankfully you've kept your beautiful English accent. I love your wit and humor/humour and "Lost in the Pond" videos. Merry/Happy Christmas to you and Tara.
Congratulations Laurence and manager ! Laurence, You did a great job working with a ''live'' audience. Your online audience, even though we saw it after the fact, were all excited for you. If we were there we would have all said awwwwww, and laughed and offered information. You are a gift for people on both sides of the pond. Bringing fun and laughter into a troubled world. I thank you.
Get some Thermal underwear/Long Johns Lawrence. They help in winter. I grow-up using them in my Rocky Mountain State. I actually know what a Christmas Cracker is. My cousins & aunt & uncle brought some from the U.K. one Christmas.
As a Texan, I'm over the moon proud of you and for you. Merry Christmas to you I hope this accomplishment brings you joy over the Holiday. Brilliant job, (I learned brilliant from you.. and Ron Weasley)

As we await that magical discovery, eager to be found, and heard.. alas .. Perhaps 🤔 My family and I are adding Christmas crackers & Boxing day, to Our holiday.. Happy Christmas ❣️☃️
Well done, Laurence! Public speaking is hard and you rocked it! I had to write a "Best Man/Lady" speech for my brother for his wedding and I might of had a couple drinks beforehand. I was a wreck leading up to it, but I worked on it for a year to make it meaningful and funny and I was proud on how it turned out. So, well done!

I like to believe that Santa relaxes after his night of deliveries by taking a month long vacation in the tropical island of Fiji. He deserves a change from the cold and snow after a night of hard work.
I live in ElkCity, Ok.born in Chicago lived in the city for 5 years raised in Wonder-lake Country Club Hills on the south then married lived in Skokie, then Southern California. I don’t miss the cold and snow. I still go visit Chicago have family there. Truly understand everything you see and feel. The USA is a A multitude of cultures we are the same but we are different . Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 has
Lol... My mom always had me leave Toll House cookies and a beer for Santa. She told me Santa was tired of all the milk other kids left and that he REALLY wanted a bottle of beer with the cookies. Sounded legit to me
Very nice speech! We have had Christmas crackers for years (all American family!) and when my son got married, our daughter-in-law (born in England, emigrated to US via Canada as a teen) was so excited to see we had crackers! We love the hats and the always very bad joke. Fun fact: the Christmas Tree was part of the colonial Christmas (via German immigrants) before Prince Albert brought it to England! As far as loving an American Christmas: assimilation. Resistance is futile! Love your content; thanks for the laughs and the thought provoking posts!
Uh...where's your tie for such an honorable event? Yes you can wear a tie with a sweater, or jumper, as you are donning. Or is that a long sleeve t-shirt with added hidden pecan pie in the tummy area. I bet Whiskers would have wore a tie. He he, that's what's fun, you putting up with some of us teasing you on your videos. It's an act of affection loving your channel!

Good show, Laurence! We love crackers at my extended family Christmas Eve supper. Started having them several years ago. They were the thing I missed most last year when we couldn't get together. I don't know why they aren't more popular in the USA.
Good presentation! Good audio quality, good video quality, good pacing! I give it 4 our of 5 Lorenzos! I would have given it 5, but I wasn't invited ... Cheers!!
Laurence, you did amazing!!!! Loved the jokes. You cracked me up. Never met you but have been subscribed for a long while and felt super proud of you. Happy Christmas. All the best to you and your lovely wife.
Laurence has made the big time! I hope he doesn't forget all of us little people now that he's making speeches to business councils.
I have been a fan since before he was able to quit his regular job. Entertaining us as a full time job now. It's been exciting to see his evolution.
