    As you know, owning a classic CJ is a learning process. Kudos for doing all the work yourself, "perfection is the enemy of advancement." you did a darn good job. Although, I find it curious that you removed cancerous metal in most of the Jeep by welding in new metal, but those spots below the door opening you chose to use body filler? Those were perfect candidates for welded-in patches.

    Hey ! Great job 👍 you may feel that the work done could have been done better but from where I'm sitting , it looks great and came out fine . You started with an excellent candidate for restoration . The entire jeep was in good shape already for its age . Yeah , it needed some repair as well as refinish but it was sound . Chassis on better shape than a lot of jeep chassis . The tub and front clip looked solid and just some minor metal repair in places . You said it took long ? You got it on the road in under a year . Some guys spend years . Will say though that it's a good runner and got the Warn overdrive . There was another manufacture of overdrive for jeep and I think scouts but lots of guys wish their jeep came with one . You did good on the price too . Just want to say that at least your jeep is done and on the road , my 1980 cj5 is awaiting my completing the engine swap . Just need to finish wiring and little things but it's bolted in and just needs me to chop the rear shaft . Went from a 4 cyl . four speed to a 258 w/ 5 speed . Then I got to get started on my 1973 basket case cj5 . Hey , be proud , you did a great job , AND , you can drive it ! Hope to be saying that soon too . Will be looking for future videos ✌️

    hey, im restoring a cj5 for my dad, but he cant drive stick anymore, can you recommend me an automatic trans to swap? (I have a 258 engine)

    • @RodKnockersGarage
      @RodKnockersGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      lazaroenvenenado the GM turbo 400 or 700r4 are pretty good trans also like a 4L80E but those might be a touch long for a CJ5 but you will need to get an adapter for the Dana 20 or 300 for any of them. But the best you can get is a GM THM400 which is the turbo 400 but they put them in Jeep Wagoneers they will bolt up perfectly to a 258 and will bolt up to the Dana 20 or 300.

    • @larryok8156
      @larryok8156 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The th400 from gm has a different bolt pattern than what they used for amc. They used them with the cj7s and Cherokee with rhe quadratack full time fwd. You can use rhis trans from one of these, but you'll need an adapter for your transfer case or a different tailshaft on the transmission. You're going to need to shorten the rear driveshaft and lengthen the front as the automatic is longer. You'll have to address the pedal configuration to lose the clutch, add a trans cooler, etc. My opinion sell what you have and find an automatic from the factory jeep. The quadratics are less desirable and usually quite a bit cheaper

  • @MybeautifulandamazingPrincess

    I don't understand why they made jeeps without boot space. Even jeeps made by other manufacturers like the Toyota FJ40 don't have boot space... Like jeep means GP = general purposes, which is another term for an overland vehicle. Specially it being a military vehicle. In both cases it makes sense that space to carry stuff would be required, no? Don't soldiers have to carry stuff around? And when you're heading to the wilderness you would be smart to carry stuff with you also... Land Rover had Jeep beat in that aspect. Defenders are way more useful than jeeps as overland vehicles because it's more spacious
