Funnily enough, while working on this, I did get sent a game from Sega - though not a Sonic game. Expect a deep dive of sorts into a series I've never gotten to cover on the channel before VERY soon!
Have they just re-released Space Channel 5 Part 2 that had Michael Jackson as a playable character, just to add extra confusion to majority of people who are already confused about the music changes in Origins? :P
Just wanted to mention here that Simon Tomly, the head of Headcannon, confirmed on Twitter that the team was planning on fixes along with plans for a later build of Origins that's more polished, but Sega rejected it to get the game out on Sonic's birthday. Yes, Sonic Origins is indeed a rushed product
Ah, they pulled a nintendo. That’s really disappointing, if not infuriating, that they’d do that. Did Simon say whether or not the fixes would be actually implemented? Or are we just stuck with broken garbage?
Origins has me underwhelmed. For a large price tag you get. . .four games that are now unfairly taken down, unwanted Denuvo (not the first time that happened) and a few extras that aren't worth the extra cash. Considering how pushed Amy was in marketing but isn't playable and Knuckles not even being playable in the CD portion of Origins, it's just not what I wanted.
@Le renard orange mais pas roux I can’t believe they marketed the shit out of the cutscenes and Amy when there were only 8 cutscenes altogether and not more it’s like the intro baited you out
@@Manuelx98. No the whole game cost $40. How is 4 remastered classic games with new modes and challenges and hand drawn animated cutscenes and game gear games etc a cash grab when 40$ is a pretty good price? If you want a cash grab look at the 60$ price for 3D all stars which is only 3 games and has a lot less effort put into it and it lazier and is worse yet costs more.
To be honest, as someone who grew up with Sonic Mega Collection Plus and Sonic Gems Collections, Origins always felt like a massive step backward. The Genesis Sonic games are like Doom or Pac-Man to me - they are great games, but I've already played them hundreds of times, so they aren't that appealing on their own at this point. We've got powerful hardware capable of emulating games from 5th and 6th generations of gaming, the fact that many companies are still stuck with re-releasing 8-bit and 16-bit games is very disappointing to me. I would've paid 60 dollars for one big collection featuring every Sonic game pre-2006. I feel sorry for Taxman & company because it's obvious they wanted to release the best product possible, but SEGA just didn't care at all. Say what you will about the Mega and Gems collections, but they really wanted to give you a nice Sonic history lesson with those, Origins just feels like a cynical cashgrab in comparison.
Sonic Mega Collection is just emulated Sonic games. Sonic Origins are ports of those same Sonic games. It’s not a fair comparison. Of course emulated will play 1:1 with the originals, but you’re stuck with no remastered features.
It really isn't a massive step backwards and it is remastered versions too. Not really, Origins has new modes and challenges and hand drawn animated cutscenes and game gear games and Amy as a new playable character etc.
@foxesarenotred69420 I mean they are improved to a degree now at least, The Mega collection still isn't perfect and lacks stuff Origins has and Origins as a port and as a collection did not fail at that.
Even if "Freedom Planet 2" would cost that much whenever it comes out, I will most likely be able purchase the game due to how much I loved playing the first one, and I was even able to get a physical copy of "Freedom Planet" for the Nintendo Switch that cost about $100 just to add to my collection because it's such an amazing game that deserves to be talked about.
Thank God there are music mods for this game already that not only restores the MJ music but also the actual Sonic 3 1993 Beta music untouched. That way everyone is happy. At least they brought back Big Arms for Sonic and Tails
When you can get the roms for free. When they sell retro rom collections they need to be cheap, have extras and be plug and play. Having a pay wall is disgusting as well. Also with other cheaper legit ways to get it it's a hard pass for me as well.
Origins just felt extremely overpriced to me, even as someone who hasn't played too much of the classic games. I feel like the money is better spent on Freedom Planet 2 in three months time which will be cheaper, has original level design, isn't trying to scam the consumer and has spent 7 years in development to really polish and attempt to blow the original game out of the water and address the first game's criticisms.
That sure is a LOT of money for some old games that have been re-released multiple times before already. I appreciate these are redone versions with some extras and such but yeah that's a lot. Still I did enjoy watching Darby (Blue Television Games) playing through some of the new Challenge mode in his latest video.
The scummy "New playable characters" in the ad. The only "New Character" they added was Knuckles being playable in Sonic 1, everything else was released in earlier official ports. Everyone wanted Metal Sonic and/or Amy. Hell I would've settled for Mighty and Ray since they're already coded into Mania's engine, just reduce the sprite quality and remove some frames.
You didn't see the absurd price of Origins in Brazil: R$ 214.95 for the Standard version, R$ 239.90 for the Deluxe, and R$ 257.95 if you buy the Standard and the DLCs separately. And also since April, Sonic games on Brazilian Steam have gone up a lot, and SEGA hasn't done anything about it. Good thing I got some Sonic games before that, especially Sonic CD and the Mega Drive trilogy, but for God's sake, there are times when I think SEGA likes to make life difficult for the consumer.
In Czechia the game costs minimum of 920 CZK, which is the same price you paid for Ratchet and Clank PS4 (Remake). Obviously, this is not an adequate price.
@@caiocesarmarques4765 É lógico que é caro, em momento nenhum discordei disso. Pelo menos o pessoal do Switch pode mudar a eshop para a da Colombia e pagar mais barato hehehe
I haven’t bought it for two reasons, cost notwithstanding: 1. No physical copy; this shouldn’t be the sole reason, so #2 finishes the deal. 2. I cannot go through Sonic 3’s Carnaval Night, Ice Cap and Launch Base’s butchered tracks without regretting it. Could these reasons be remedied? Yes. A physical version might come up one day, just like Sonic Mania did. And if enough time and critique comes by Sega’s way, there might be the slightest chance that maybe, somehow the company comes to a deal with Jackson’s legal department in order to buy the licensing and update them into the game… perhaps.
My biggest gripes are classic mode not having widescreen and of course Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Launch Bases’s music not being the final versions. I completely understand the stupidity behind locking hard mode and other things behind DLC paywalls but I honestly didn’t see myself playing those modes anyway. An honorable gripe would be the coin system. I think it makes the games a little too easy. And if they were to make a DLC pack featuring Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Launch Base’s finalized music versions I’d buy it in a heartbeat. These beta remixes just ain’t it chief…
you do know the modders already fixed the blur and screen rotation and dlc music names and even got back the original mj music right? so idk why you all are still complaining about it then....
@@skadooshnator9336 Meanwhile back in 1997 Sonic Jam when adding the spin dash into Sonic 1, if you didn't want to use it, you didn't have to, as you could turn it off in the options menu. Along with turning off the stage time limit and if you were struggling, change the level difficulty to Easy or *Normal (basically the Anniversary mode of Jam), or just play the game as it first came out, through Original mode, along with still being able to turn on or off the time limit or Spin Dash. How can it be a collection of the games from 1997 gives you far more options for how you wanted to play the games than a collection from 2022 where in order to get all the bells and whistles of wide screen you must play it this way (Anniversary Mode), and ONLY this way. *"Normal" Acts as essentially a bug-fixed version of the original game, though some layout changes were made to address concerns with the original releases. As an example, more platforms were added in Sonic 2's Chemical Plant Zone to reduce the chances of the player drowning in the level's second Act - it means on the whole, "Normal" is easier than "Original", but harder than "Easy". Sonic Retro
I think this collection could've been so much more. Here's how I personally would've handled Sonic Origins if I were in charge at SEGA: - Hire the entire Mania team to rebuild the classic games from the ground up, using Mania's sprites and art style. - Tees Lopes soundtracks for all games, original Tee Lopes compositions for the troublesome MJ tracks in S3K. - Option to play Story Mode, or each game individually. Each title has save files like S3K/Mania. - In-game cutscenes (3K & Mania style) for Sonic 1, 2 and CD - also use these to link the games together in a giant story mode rather than animated ones we got. - Have Amy as a new playable character, unlocks after saving her from Metal Sonic in Stardust Speedway. - Secret acts that can be found in stages like Sonic 2's Hidden Palace Zone in which.... - ...you meet Mighty & Ray in and unlock them. (Secret acts could be repurposed Chaotix zones?) - Expand original zone layouts to accommodate the additional three characters. Think Mania level lengths with more secret areas. - Act 1 mini bosses for Sonic 1, 2 and CD. - Encore mode for each game, harder level layouts. Unlocks at 100% completion of each game. - Replace coin system, add Red Star Rings hidden in each act that unlocks the bonus museum content. Lives & Continues stay as per original releases. - Update the Super/Hyper forms. You turn Super first and while Super, can transform again to use Hyper. Hyper burns 2 rings per second, Super burns 1 ring. - Animated opening and animated versions of in-game cutscenes used in a credits sequence rather than between games, less jarring. - Small cutscene at the end of 3K that teases the Phantom Ruby, linking to Sonic Mania. I feel SEGA really dropped the ball on a golden opportunity to not just remaster the classic trilogy but truly enhance them.
I never had any intention to get Sonic Origins, because I already have 4 physical ways to play them. The only way I would give a dayum about Sonic Origins, is if it was available for PS+ as a free monthly game. Since Sonic Mania was a PS+ game at one point, I would imagine Sonic Origins to eventually do the same.
I preordered this and have been playing it today. I've been pretty underwhelmed, even as a big fan that plays the fan made widescreen remasters regularly. I'm sure it won't take long for fans to fix the issues but so far the speed, audio, and pixel scaling feels off. I'm hoping some of the more advanced options that can adjust those elements will get fan fixes soon. I'll be going back to the fan remasters for 1, 2, 3, and CD til then.
Different Genre, but for example, today the Capcom Fighting Collection released, also for US $40 but it includes 10 games (8 if you count Darkstalkers 3 only once). I fully understand why the Sonic 3 music had to be changed to finally re-release it properly (and fully expect modders to add it to the PC version), and I appreciate the Whitehead improvements. But US $30 (including the DLC/Digital Deluxe content) would have been a much more palatable price. I've wishlisted it for now, definitely a "Wait for Sale" for me. (Also, still burned by the Switch version of Sonic Colors, so not inclined to spend more money on Sonic)
@@carn9507 Very true, though it's also the first ever official re-release of Red Earth. And NGL, the highlight so far has been Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix.
@@menhirmike Oh yeah I had that as Pocket Fighter imported from the US to play on my modded UK PS1. Fun game. :) I'll likely get this collection at some point. Just strapped for cash at moment so it's going on the wishlist. :)
you know... the mirror mode and other stuff can be unlocked in the game... by normal ways... the DLC just lets you unlock it early right at the start of the game... plus it has story mode which lets you play every game in order from sonic 1 to sonic 3 & knuckles with animated cutscenes between each game to connect them all you also have mission mode on top of that adding even more content, i just found out it seems to have randomly generated blue spares, not to mention it also has boss rush mode which does seem hard if your not used to fighting a certain boss, other neat things include Drop Dash from sonic mania and a spin dash in sonic 1, the base game would still be very worth it the game does have debug which is fun to mess with and breaks sonic 1 marble zone if you give your self the fire shield
Heh, when I read that Yuji Naka tweet there about Sega using Michael Jackson's music I just assumed it meant the old Sonic 3 music so I looked up the tweet and it links to Sega's own Tik Tok account with Sonic doing the Billie Jean thing people do with pretending to pick up a cup of coffee that is too hot. So it's actually Billie Jean playing in the clip and not the old Sonic 3 music I had thought. So yeah that is kinda weird. Maybe some folk at SEGA want the MJ tracks in there but for legal reasons (such as a couple of Buxer/MJ's music team been suing Sega for unpaid royalties) prevented and this be how they express their want for the Jackson tunes. Maybe.
I did buy it because I have been waiting for the classics to come to modern consoles for a long time, but I totally get where you’re coming from. Maybe wait a year or so because I am almost certain that they will be releasing DLC/a physical edition (like the Plus release for Mania) that features at least Amy (and maybe Metal Sonic) as a playable character given how present she is in the new animations.
I got sonic origins for both the xbox series x and switch. I haven't played it on the xbox yet. Super/Hyper knuckles has a remixed theme rather than use the original. I saved up for it when it was announced about a year ago. I put $10 a month away so I could afford it when it came out. I 100%'d s3&k as sonic and tails on the switch in anniversary mode and ran into a few small issues. But a patch can fix that. When I got to Hidden Palace zone and fought knuckles, it froze after I defeated knuckles. That was fixed with a re-load. When I got to the S&K stages and got into a gold ring going for a Super Emerald, I got sent back to mushroom hill zone before I could land on an emerald to choose a blue sphere stage. When I beat carnival night zone act 2. It advanced me to Ice Cap zone before Sonic and Tails made it into the barrell. Also in the gumball machine special stage, tails doesn't collect sheild gumballs. But they did put back in the Big Arm final boss Battle from Sonic 3 as a stand alone game. That was great. TH-camr Nathaniel Bandy, I saw him reply to someone on twitter who encountered a glitch on Ice Cap zone act 2 that I did not. When this person went to fight the boss, he moved too fast and the capsule was on the screen. I'm sure speed runners are going to want use this glitch if Sega doesn't patch it up. I did briefly test out sonic 2. I wanted to see if I could unlock "proto palace zone" from the mobile port. Nope. I was able to do the cheat in the sound test but it just loaded Christian Whitehead's version of Hidden Palace Zone. also when I had to listen to the same sound twice for the code, the song playing didn't restart it's self. The codes still for debug and proto palace still gave me the ring chime. The re-worked pc/prototype is a disappointment but It's not a deal breaker. I'm super sonic 90% of the time on those 3 stages so I lose out on the music anyways.
Apparently even some involved with development are disappointed with the state of the release. Check out these tweets from Stealth: twitter.com/HCStealth/status/1540161919851540480
That Super Sonic thing where you lose the stage music is something that I can't stand anymore after playing Sonic 3 complete! Is so much better to have an option to just speedup the stage music when you're in Super/Hyper form than to just play the super sonic music! I much more enjoyable to listen to all the different songs than playing the whole game with super sonic music playing over and over and over
I was way hyped for this after seeing the trailer but after looking at the pricing for Canada and how there is DLC and different versions of the game. Told myself that it's worth waiting for a drop in price
Yeah I bought the premium version, at first I thought it was great, but I’m seeing more and more frustrating and stupid bugs! And yeah, why are we paying so much? Especially because there’s no MJ to pay out. I’m in two minds wanting to return it. Seems SEGA have learned absolutely nothing!
The fact that SEGA didn’t use Michael Jackson’s tracks in Sonic 3 for Sonic Origins is real and only reason why I refuse to buy the game. I’m still pissed off at SEGA for it. I say “Screw you SEGA!” But they’re lucky I’m not adding them to my H8T list…yet.
Short story long, Sonic 1 (16-Bit) is Sonic 1, Part 1. Sonic 1 (8-Bit), is Sonic 1, Part 2. Sonic 2 (8-Bit) is Sonic 2, Part 1. Sonic 2 (16-Bit) is Sonic 2, Part 2. Sonic CD is Sonic 2, Part 3. Sonic 3 is Sonic 3, Part 1. Sonic & Knuckles is Sonic 3, Part 2. Sonic 3 & Knuckles/Sonic 3 Complete is the full version of Sonic 3. And Sonic Mania/Sonic Mania Plus is the true Sonic 4. Sonic's first robotic doppelganger was Mecha Sonic Mark 1 in Sonic 2 (8-Bit), Sonic's second robotic doppelganger was Mecha Sonic Mark 2 in Sonic 2 (16-Bit), Sonic's third robotic doppelganger was Metal Sonic in Sonic CD and Sonic's final robotic doppelganger was Mecha Sonic Mark 3 in the Sonic 3 series.
I actually like this collection. I purchased it at 20 dollars on sale. I like the new features that they added last year such Amy Rose being playable for the first time in the four main 2D Sonic games, every character being playable for the main 2D games, all Sonic Game Gear games being added. The package is better than it was during it's first year, but the price is still not justifiable enough. 29.99 would be a reasonable price that includes the DLC.
With the Sonic 3 & Knuckles in this collection, the music we all know can be modded back in, but $70+CAD for a game that has day 1 DLC for games from the 90's is pretty bad.
I enjoyed my time with Sonic Origins, and I'm glad I have it digitally downloaded, because it means that I can show my friends excerpts of the Sonic 30th Anniversary Symphony without needing TH-cam, play some interesting Mission Mode levels, be able to play Sonic 3 without keeping my New 3DS on life support or untangle my GameCube, and most importantly of all, because I actually like the new music in Sonic 3; those prototype tracks hurt my ears...
Its best to wait. Its so glitchy Im currently playing sonic 2 as knuckles and tails Tails cant keep up and you have to listen to him jump the whole stage. Its so annoying. Im playing hill top zone on mute because of it
For some dumb reason they also replace Sonic 3 and Knuckles Super Sonic theme just why thought Michal Jackson team only worked on 3tracks I know damn well he didn't work on Super Sonic's theme in that game.
The reason is because super sonic didn't have a proper theme. They just used the invincibility theme for super sonic, so they changed it in origins just to not look lazy.
Good thing I have a Switch and the Switch lets you change your country as many times as you want, and Origins costs 23 dollars in colombia so I got the game much cheaper on Switch

As someone who pre-ordered this (mainly because my son was screaming for it) I can say it's an OK collection, with some nice bonus features. But yeah that price was a stinger. Wait for a price drop people, it ain't bad, but it ain't worth that kind of price either. and no the whole sonic 3 changed music thing doesn't bother me too much. I prefer the originals, but it is what it is.
I bought it, played the hell out of it, enjoyed it, and I still have a few things I haven't done/finished. Boss rush n mirror mode stuff. It is far from perfect and not exactly what was wanted or expected. Still think it was basically worth it.
The only thing if it may be worth the buy is if they add Sonic 4. Not as a bad thing though. I like Sonic 4 (My opinion), but if the game was polished, changed graphics to closer to Sonic Mania, added Episode 3, and made it a complete edition. Then it's worth some than nothing.
I only don’t seem interested in playing the game is because I’m not interested in the fact it’s just 4 of Sonic’s 2D Genesis games but with some other gimmicks and additions to it to change how you play the game and to remaster them. I’m looking for something fresh and new, basically Sonic Frontiers
Perhaps as some sort of time I made the right choice, I picked up a copy of Mega Collection+ at a thrift shop recently. I can't believe that one was just $20 at launch!
I've bought nearly every sonic game and even blindly pre-ordered stuff like sonic forces,, I bought Sonic Mania 3 times and supported multiple versions of the mobile ports. But it all seems off this time.. it's like 64 bux over here, and I would spend that.. but I feel a bit duped by the 'dlc' separation (which a 'harder' mode sounds like the kind of thing that would appeal to me having played these games hundreds of times). I could have been tricked into spending that for a 'physical' copy perhaps.. I can definitely wait for half price around christmas or whenever though..
I'm honestly really surprised we aren't getting a physical copy. Are they going to wait a few months, add Knuckles into Sonic CD, and release "Sonic Origins+"?
I'm paying $60 CAD for the deluxe bundle yet it doesn't come with Sonic Mania or even Kunckles' chaotics .... What a rip... Sonic Mania was 20 bucks after tax... First no S3&K music, now a rip off price for a price bundle rip off!?
whether the price was worth it or not is certainly subjective. The new version coming with 12 game gear titles does make a better argument in that respect, but there are some things that aren't right. First off these aren't the original versions of the games, these aren't 30 years old. Their the mobile releases which were, aside from Sonic CD, exclusive to mobile. What's more Sonic 3 & Knuckles is an entirely new port. Collections haven't featured those games together in decades so aside from collecting the originals, most people couldn't play them. This set specifically marked the first time you could play all the mobile versions, with new features like the drop dash in each game, as well as getting the brand new S3&K port along with the animated scenes and the complete Sonic Mania animated miniseries. Also the features restricted to deluxe mode were worthless. Not worth paying for. Nothing of value is lost. Like I said, the value is subjective, but it just isn't true that these games were already available. One of them didn't even exist yet and two others were on mobile only so no controllers, no TV, no leaning back in your chair and relaxing to play the games. Even the Genesis mini didn't come with the full set, neither did the Genesis Collection released on consoles.
It's a great collection and I personally don't mind missing those few tracks. But the price definitely might be a bit too high and the game shouldn't have separate editions and dlc.
That wouldn't have been any better. Since those would just be practically emulated versions. Mega Collection + would be better to re-release, but again it's mostly just emulation, and also quite outdated in terms of being an anniversary gift. Nobody would be proud of it. Sonic Origins just needed way more time in development.
Sonic Origins seems like a decent bundle, but there are THREE major factors that make this a dealbreaker to me: First up is the Michael Jackson music for Sonic 3, it is all absent, even the music for Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Launch Base. The replacement music just sounds really, really bad! (It's like nails on a chalkboard) The Second factor is the lives system has been replaced with coins in the Widescreen Modes, which removes all the challenge from these games, the coins just make all of this TOO EASY!! The Third One is Denuvo on PC, which can make the entire collection UNPLAYABLE!!! Sonic 1 Forever Sonic 2 Absolute Sonic 3 A.I.R. (With all the MJ music along with a couple of tracks from the past Sonic games) Sonic CD Restored & Knuckles Are still the definitive ways to play these titles. Why pay 40 bucks for this collection? I don't see the point when the MJ music is absent, you can't get Game Overs in Widescreen Mode, and Denuvo. Might get this on Nintendo Switch, but only on a DEEP discount.
I’m upset about the original 3 & K MJ music not being in the game, the prototype versions aren’t as good and don’t fit as well Plus the prototype music they used iI’m upset about the original 3 & K MJ music not being in the game, the prototype versions while fine on their own aren’t as good and don’t fit as well Plus the prototype music they used is worse than the original prototype music Why can’t they get this issue sorted out so they can use the release versions, these versions don’t fit as well and the tone and feeling isn’t the same at all. IK there are still versions with the original music and origins will have mods on pc (and the music is online) but still it’s not ideal I am at least glad CD still lets you select the soundtrack versions Also I wish they had included other games as well as have other options like playing 3 or sonic and knuckles on their own and maybe a few more modes or something (perhaps even a few more characters even as just skins) This is all on top of issue of the games having issues of them not all playing exactly the same
I bought origins and ive played these classic games all the way from the genesis to the sonic collection on gamecube….this is the first time I’ve played a sonic collection game since then, for obvious reasons (no sonic3&knuckles, so I wasn’t buying)….i bought mania on open day aswell as origins….for a person who hasn’t played these classic games in just over a decade i have to say if you just want a quick feel of that this collection is decent for what you can currently get…however the criticism are not unwarranted alot are true in what’s been said….ive been playing mania since it came out like i said and one thing this did remind me of, (having sonic3 & knuckles back) i was reminded how much hyper sonic made regular super sonic feel like trash 😂….so all i can ask now if they do a update/dlc or a sequel to mania….yea add hyper sonic in there would ya
Honestly if it goes down and price and they mod the heck out of it to the point where its like sonic 3 air maybe then i'll consider buying it but sonic 3 air is just too good since i can change all the music and level layouts to what i want. if i want the level layouts and music to be from the sonic 3 standlone game in the first half before sonic and knuckles i can.
@Legend Killer I k ow, Iv played the classics but I'd rather not have to do it everytime I want to select a level. There should have been a separate level select screen
Christain whitehead remaster of sonic 3 and knuckles sonics drop dash feels so nice to use especially in the metal sonic fight in CD beautifully animated cutscenes a story mode for all the games mission modes Boss rush and mirror modes makes it worth it for me idk bout u 😐
I respect your decision not to buy sonic origins I personally almost didn’t buy it not because it didn’t apeal to me but I guess because like alot of people the musuc in sonic 3 in particular is disappointing to say the least I kind of understand sega not wanting the headache having to pay MJs family royalties but since MJ himself had very little to do with the soundtrack is behind me why they didn’t just pay the family and hace done with it or at least gave us the option to choose to have the new soundtrack or the original soundtrack I honestly believe a lot of issues could have been resolved
i bet now tha only way to get tha Original Sonic music for Sonic 3 again is to indeed let Microsoft buy SEGA to cover for those licensing fees of tha original MJ songs lol honestly i want it to happen

Sonic Mega Collection is just emulated Sonic games. Sonic Origins are ports of those same Sonic games. It’s not a fair comparison. Of course emulated will play 1:1 with the originals, but you’re stuck with no remastered features.

I feel like Rockstar and Sega are competing to see who could hold each other's beer the longest
the fact they took down the only legal way of getting the genesis roms and the best version of sonic cd on steam is so fucking disgusting.
Way agreed!
The retro game launch worth buying now is the TMNT one. Origins is overpriced a lot.
True
Kind of
Origins just felt extremely overpriced to me, even as someone who hasn't played too much of the classic games.
I feel like the money is better spent on Freedom Planet 2 in three months time which will be cheaper, has original level design, isn't trying to scam the consumer and has spent 7 years in development to really polish and attempt to blow the original game out of the water and address the first game's criticisms.
I agree about Oshima being the father of Sonic too.
Why is so expensive in Canada? The price doesn't even translate correctly!
Definitely not picking the game up after I heard how the devs were treated. I was never gonna buy it till a price drop anyways.
That's absolutely crazy!
In Czechia the game costs minimum of 920 CZK, which is the same price you paid for Ratchet and Clank PS4 (Remake). Obviously, this is not an adequate price.
Pitchforks! Get yer pitchforks, here!
That why we have anniversary
you do know the modders already fixed the blur and screen rotation and dlc music names and even got back the original mj music right? so idk why you all are still complaining about it then....
@@skadooshnator9336 it’s not in 16x9 now is it?
@@infern209x how was I supposed to know I’m not on the internet all day
@@skadooshnator9336 Meanwhile back in 1997 Sonic Jam when adding the spin dash into Sonic 1, if you didn't want to use it, you didn't have to, as you could turn it off in the options menu.
Sonic Retro
You know it bad when the creator is like: Oh, My boi, they violated you.
I think this collection could've been so much more. Here's how I personally would've handled Sonic Origins if I were in charge at SEGA:
- Hire the entire Mania team to rebuild the classic games from the ground up, using Mania's sprites and art style.
(Secret acts could be repurposed Chaotix zones?)
- Expand original zone layouts to accommodate the additional three characters.
Discounting Amy Rose because there is no sprites for the rest of the moves whatsoever, along with Metal Sonic as they remained as NPCs.
Audio and pixel scaling are already mods. The speed probably is denuvo messing with your PC.
@@m3nmin I wish Sega give us option to remove that since nobody asked for that
There’s a reason why I stuck with Pac-Man Museum + in terms of game collections this year.
Even if the Pac-Mom thing is terrible
That 'Fighting Collection' may as well just be called Darkstalkers Collection And a Few Other Things.
I forgot that was out today! So happy to see some Darkstalkers love
Maybe.
I think I will stick to Sonic Jam on Sega Saturn until this is heavily on sale.

No playable Amy (Rosy Rascal)
No playable Metal Sonic
No original Sonic 3 music .
No physical port edition

I don't really like compilation games but its nice to have sonic 3 on origins. Other than that its pretty ok.
It's Sonic 1 gba again.
Why does it cost a lot in canada for games I picked it up and I love it as of right know I’m in sonic 1
If it is about the money, my country (Chile) is getting a big W, the price of sonic origins here is 20k CLP that is less than 20 USD
Like, if the price was similar to around where Mania was at launch, this would've been a no-brainer pickup for me

Its best to wait. Its so glitchy
Im currently playing sonic 2 as knuckles and tails
Tails cant keep up and you have to listen to him jump the whole stage.

I do agree with all these points, especially the music aspect for Sonic 3.
At least the new cutscenes are gorgeous!
@@StuffWePlay I only saw a few but they sre stunning. Hoping for a mod that just adds in the old music though before I buy it
The only thing if it may be worth the buy is if they add Sonic 4.
The game will be 5 dollars soon enough. I probably wouldn't play it enough to justify it now.
I basically already have Sonic Origins on my phone, so why would I want to drop 40 bucks on rereleases of games I already have?
Changing the music is unforgivable to me. It would be like rewriting the soundtrack to the original Star Wars
I'm paying $60 CAD for the deluxe bundle yet it doesn't come with Sonic Mania or even Kunckles' chaotics .... What a rip... Sonic Mania was 20 bucks after tax...
First no S3&K music, now a rip off price for a price bundle rip off!?
I'm not buying Sonic Origins either
whether the price was worth it or not is certainly subjective.
Great video! From videos I've seen posted on Twitter, Sonic Origins is pretty glitchy. It's a shame. They should have just re-released Sonic Jam.
No separate versions of Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles makes this an absolute no go for me. I can emulate these on my Chromecast. 🤷🏼♂️

Sonic Origins seems like a decent bundle, but there are THREE major factors that make this a dealbreaker to me:
First up is the Michael Jackson music for Sonic 3, it is all absent, even the music for Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Launch Base. The replacement music just sounds really, really bad! (It's like nails on a chalkboard)
The Second factor is the lives system has been replaced with coins in the Widescreen Modes, which removes all the challenge from these games, the coins just make all of this TOO EASY!!
The Third One is Denuvo on PC, which can make the entire collection UNPLAYABLE!!!
Sonic 1 Forever
Sonic 2 Absolute
Sonic 3 A.I.R. (With all the MJ music along with a couple of tracks from the past Sonic games)
Sonic CD Restored & Knuckles
Are still the definitive ways to play these titles.
Why pay 40 bucks for this collection? I don't see the point when the MJ music is absent, you can't get Game Overs in Widescreen Mode, and Denuvo.
Might get this on Nintendo Switch, but only on a DEEP discount.

Why can’t they get this issue sorted out so they can use the release versions, these versions don’t fit as well and the tone and feeling isn’t the same at all.
IK there are still versions with the original music and origins will have mods on pc (and the music is online) but still it’s not ideal
I am at least glad CD still lets you select the soundtrack versions
Also I wish they had included other games as well as have other options like playing 3 or sonic and knuckles on their own and maybe a few more modes or something (perhaps even a few more characters even as just skins)
This is all on top of issue of the games having issues of them not all playing exactly the same

It'll inevitably go down at some point. My threshold is $30 cad.
I wish knuckles was playable in sonic cd I also wish amy was playable too
