Jeff, don’t understand if a person is at work officially doing their duty how they can be sued as an individual? Otherwise it would make any job where there is a possible risk of injury to customer/public very unattractive to accept.

Woman on bike falls into open span on Menasha bridge Excerpt: Authorities say the Menasha woman was riding her bike as the bridge was opening. Witnesses say the woman was going fast and rode in between and past the crossing gates. “My husband had yelled out the window, 'You better slow down, the bridge is open!' and she just didn't slow down," said Amber Minton, a driver who was stopped at the bridge at the time of the incident. Although they have no medical records yet to support it, police believe alcohol may have played a role in the incident, because the woman admitted to having been drinking. According to police, the woman's bicycle kept her from falling through and into the river. They say it may have been what saved her life.
If she fell through to the river and knew how to swim, I don't see there being a problem other than her losing her bicycle but maybe being hit by a passing boat, but who knows.

@@johnpublic6582 maybe they never took driver's licence. I mean since school don't teach traffic law, if someone has never took a driver's licence, they wouldn't have learned the law.
@@johnpublic6582 Yeah we have similar problems with some cyclists here in the UK. It seems that certain cyclists believe that they can ignore the "rules of the road" - which are there for our safety. It's definitely due to a lack of intelligence in my opinion.
@@johnpublic6582 It's criminal there are 5 lanes needed to be crossed to align with a left turn. Also shared roads where velocity differs well over 30 mph. As for the blocking of traffic, I do that too, though only if there is no room to safely pass (if they can touch the wing mirror by just stretching an arm, the driver is way too close). Because a disappointingly amount of motorists never look after the vulnerable. Tunnel vision from start to destination. Traffic would be a lot better if everyone cooperated with patience and the mind for safety of others as much as their own. (Goes for cyclists and pedestrians too.)
The women came and watched. It was the men who acted. The women probably told them what to do. Hysterically and incorrectly. But then wimmens was strong. And independent. And don’t need no man. Just like the rider.
Let me guess the attorney representing their client would claim, the flashing lights and crossing gates, didn't completely "block" the entire road way, as such she was confused as if the road was truly closed??
Would be easy case for prosecution then. Laws state vehicles must come to complete stop for flashing red lights and sold red lights on crossing arms. Law also states that bicycles need to ride on the right most half of the roadway as practicable. She was over the center of the roadway in on coming lanes. Bicycles count as vehicles. She was also intoxicated, so a DUI/OWI would be a charge as well and wouldn’t look good. So if she had a lawyer and they tried that didn’t know the road was closed excuse, they would get laughed out of the courtroom, since she did a minimum of three illegal things to get to the point she was even at.
They had to get confirmation that the bridge operators knew to keep the bridge open until the situation was resolved. Otherwise, they could be killed trying to help.
For real, I feel like you could go help and not really worry about the bridge slowly closing back down…youd notice it starting and atleast save yourself

Laws have nothing to do with the bikers that ignore them 😆 in Oregon you can turn right on red lights, that doesn't mean people do so without looking. Same with biking through a stop sign. If someone shows no regard for danger while using such a vulnerable vehicle they're clearly half asleep
I am a bit surprised the people that saw it waited over a minute to try to help and even then waited until finally a guy runs over. It wasn't a train track, they were in no danger by going over to see what the situation was. Then when one guy runs over and jumps into the gap then everyone else decides they will go over to try to help.
They probably immediately called 911 to make sure the bridge staff knew the situation before getting on the bridge. Without doing this first, they couldn't know for certain that the bridge wasn't going to close any second with them in the crack. The first rule of first aid is *don't create new victims.*
@@astrinymris9953 i was thinking the same thing as OP and had the same thought for the reason as you. I at least hope they were calling 911. This is a fascinating view of humans acting in a crisis, and how it just takes one person to galvanize people into action. Woman on bike falls into open span on Menasha bridge
Excerpt:
Authorities say the Menasha woman was riding her bike as the bridge was opening.
