Great video, I’d love to dive a wreck like that one day.
Nice and honest too - little bit of silting here and there, cheeky push off the wreck on the gas switch. A very pleasant contrast to all the edited ‘best bits only’ videos out there. :)

Thanks Simon, this was a while ago now so interesting to watch and see how far I've come in the last 6 years. The wreck remains an awesome dive, I go back often. Cheers for watching and commenting :).

3K my messdeck on two drafts, dived a fair bit on her hull back in the day, but never internally ..lol bit sad to see the old girl like that, lots of life memories within that hull..

Hey Wayne, yes me too... my very first sea draft and loved every second of it. Had the good fortune to post back again in the late 80s and early 90s. Great ship and don't be sad about her current state, she is absolutely one of the best purpose sunk wrecks going. Having her as a dive wreck is a way better outcome than being scrapped or sunk for target practice as the RN did to many Leanders.

Cracking video - brought back loads of memories - never had a posting on the Mighty Y but did my first two weeks of sea training on her. (and numerous drinks and cocktail parties in her wardroom and on the flightdeck)

Thanks Max, she was a great ship when in service and now is a great dive wreck. See the note on my book on her if you are interested in more. Cheers Steve

Super Nice dive and perfect explanation but is there a reason that you don't use a cave/wreckline?

Sure good question. Bit of a long answer... we are typically entering and exiting in different parts of the wreck so running a line would mean multiple dives to install and remove lines. Plus this wreck is purpose sunk and reasonably open in some areas... and it was my home for six years so I know it like my house. Having said that, lines should be run in wrecks or sections that you do not know or where there is a risk of a navigation error, silt out, getting lost etc. There are other wrecks where I would definitely run line and/or use strobes.

What brand regulators was that for the deco gas?

I think that's an old DGX set from way back... in a box somewhere now :)
