- Join me as I review the Both Lighting Chroma Cannon. This light is a wireless, battery-powered, compact, affordable LED light, that bears a STRONG resemblance to the Ape Labs "Ape Can". I'll make a few comparisons to the popular Both Lighting IR-4 mini par, and answer the question... does this replace the IR4?

In addition to traditional uplighting (IR-4s), these are FANTASTIC as "highlight" fixtures. To the right and left of a Cake Table. Flanking the "Sweetheart Table". If you're in a room with art, or cool columns, or unique fixtures...these are great for drawing attention to those. Of, just placing the Cannons in between every other IR-4 to add variance to the look. I've even used them as the beams for a Mirror Ball at a disco themed event. Lots of options. 🙂
I personally want to focus my mobile DJ productions to creating an environment conducive to dancing. Event lighting goes so much deeper than uplights and pin spots... and I feel like if I get too much into the event lighting space I'll need to have towers and string lights, which isn't the direction I want to go.
I got the ADJ pin spots to light up my mirror ball, but have considered just using these... Will update on that later.
Thanks for this honest review!! I’ve been interested in these as well, especially if they can be used as pinspots so I’m glad you talked about that! It’s also awesome these can be used in master/slave with IR4. At the price, I may pick few of these up to try to use as pinspots and if that doesn’t work out use them as accent lighting for the booth area.

Hit the nail on the head. They're neat, but I've never been that drawn to the look of their output of these or previously Ape Cans.

The added that screw on the bottom because they have a magnetic adapter for it. Making it convenient to put them and angle them wherever you have metal accents. I have ape maxis 2.0 and xl sticks and so naturally I want the cans next. Lol
They might be more suited for highlighting behind the DJ booth with the pattern beams, I don't see them for floor or room lighting.

Not sure where we would use these in a live band setup. I can see these being really good for up lighting the DJ Booth or even maybe a cake display at a wedding or some other event displays, price point is good. Rumor has it that they are designing a hard case for the IR-4 that allows you to drop into the case to be charged without having to plug them in similar to the hard case option that these have. I'd be interested in the new IR-4 hardcase if it becomes available.
They're super portable, could put these around the band, like the drums, amps, keys, etc... Could even use these pointed at the audience as a mini strobe for private events.
If you wanna sell them at a discounted rate, let's go! I'd be interested then! Otherwise, sticking with IR4 as well!
Do you know if this light plays nicely with Sound Switch ? I use the Control One and the Doner wireless dongle.

How did you add the Control One into the Bunn Command Center?
I added a cutout in my top plate and use plywood underneath to make it flush
Sold my 18 Apelab can lights. I could not find a way to make money with them so it just gave me extra work,
I've just focused on using lighting to create a cool vibe for my target events, and not really itemizing individual lighting fixtures. I've only had a few times where I've itemized them.
Which station do you use that the lights are on in Soundswitch? I use the Chauvet ones but unfortunately they don't work with them. Now I need another transmitter and put the lights in the second universe

The color mixing in the flare, or lack thereof looks really cheap. Along with the double flare. Looks like a kids toy discolight.
Comparing it to videos of the apelabs output, I think it’s a feature, not a bug 🤷 not the hugest fan either
@@DJDarylBennett Checked out their video "NEW! 10 Degree Optics Option for Ape Labs Can", they have a 160° frost lense which solves the flare issues. Probably the output was too low with this frost filter to use by default.
Not for me but definitely not useless.

Absolutely pointless lighting fixtures, IMO.
Definitely not as ground breaking as some of the other fixtures
