- It's been a long time since I did a video on Dark Souls music, so let's listen to Lothric, Younger Prince and Lorian, Elder Prince (aka Twin Princes) from the Dark Souls 3 OST. I'm always surprised by how Dark Souls music can be so tragic and sad for an action game.

I mentioned Ludwig's Theme from Bloodborne briefly in this video and I just remembered that is actually one of my favorite videos that I've done! Have you seen it? -> th-cam.com/video/4nQexcuDPAw/w-d-xo.html&pp=gAQBiAQB
This is also one of my favorite videos you've ever done. That and Lady Maria :)
I can't wait to see you play Dark Souls 3 and fight this boss in the distant future.
@@signa8 why cant play it?
@@veracc he's doing Mario RPG next
I have watched it once or twice, yes.
11:16 it's really interesting of you to say this, because if you die to this boss, one of them says: "This spot marks our grave."
Whoooa
"This spot marks our grave. But you may rest here, too, if you like." (From the younger prince)
Until phase two of the fight, Lothric only talks. He's basically just overseeing your funeral like the many that have come before you. As his brother proceeds to most likely bury you.
Might as well leave their item descriptions as well
Lothric's sword - "Young Lothric was meant to be a champion, and was expected to wield this platinum sword, but some things will remain distant dreams forever."
Lorian's sword - "Before Lorian embraced his brother's curse, he was a knight who single handedly slayed the demon prince, but the victory eternally scorched his sword with flame."
Combined swords - "Sword forged from the reunion of the inseparable swords born from the souls of Lothric and Lorian, the twin princes. Their union is rooted in a curse, and perpetuated by grief."
Fits the mood you were describing
I've watched many videos of this guy, he always make these dead on observations about any boss theme. Almost likes he reads ahead about the boss lore and then pretend like he figured it out listening to the soundtrack, and I think that's exactly what he does 😁
Quite obviously from watching this video xD@@hellacash126
@@hellacash126You DO realize that (good) boss songs are crafted SPECIFICALLY to represent that boss and their story, right? Composers write their songs based on the context of that story, using their music to help the player gain an emotional understand of the battle and what it represents.
Anyone with a strong education in music theory can easily see what these kinds of songs are trying to convey. It just so happens that this guy has such an education.
It is possible that he reads up about the boss first, true, but considering his education and experience in music theory and composition, I wouldn’t be surprised if all of this is genuine. In fact, I expect it to bex
Twin Princes was def the music highlight of my DS3 journey, such a masterpiece.
Definitely a close second for me, if you count the DLC. Because holy shit, that Gael Bossfight music.
That's a tough one, there's so much good music in DS3, from this to Gael, to SoC and Abyss Watchers which is probably my favourite
Mine was the abyss watchers
Gael and Midir were both absolutely beautiful tracks! Twin Princes were my favorite for the main game by far though @@dorcusss3693
Also the only original boss in the game (I'm half kidding)
You should absolutely do Pontiff Sulyvahn from DS3 as well
Oh God I’ve never wanted a request answered more. This would be amazing.
Or god devouring serpent
The "maddening, enraged sounds" aren't in the track, 'cause I make those sounds when Lorian starts teleporting.
😂 Fun fact Lorian can’t teleport. It is Lothric who is teleporting his brother during the whole fight. First from above you and later in the fight while sitting on Lorians shoulders. Notice the Holy golden colour of the teleport is the same color of Lothrics holy magic homing attack.
@@MissyAmy88 Lorian is not performing the action of teleporting, however he is undergoing the process of teleportation, it could then be said that he is teleporting, english is fun right? It also speaks to their bond, that they're so in sync that Lorian knows exactly where Lothric is gonna put him and attacks accordingly, and that it's so seamless that it could be forgiven if one assumed it was Lorian doing the teleporting
@@canadiangopnik7007 Yes, their souls have come togheter as one so they are a unit :)
Darkeater Midir is another absolute hidden gem from the ds3 soundtrack that you absolutely should listen to!
i am begging him to do a midir video his ost is such a beautiful piece
Twin Princes is probably my favorite fight/song from DS3. There's nothing particularly hard or flashy about it, but the rhythm of the attacks feels like a dance of sorts once you get the timing down. The choir in the second phase gives me chills every time.
That's because there are almost no delayed attacks. Everything is very well signalled and very easy to dodge. That gives the encounter a very nice dancey feeling and I had the same thought years ago. Now Nameless King on the other hand :)
Yeah one of my favorites bosses!! Always looked forward to it in NG+
For me, theyre probably the hardest mandatory boss in the base game. I can never get the timing of his attacks right
“This spot marks our grave. But you may rest here too, if you’d like”
Try Main Theme pls. One of the most remarkable main menu themes
That's because it was supposed to be the final boss theme music. Originally Pontiff was the final boss of the game and that was his theme. They scrapped the idea and utilized his theme for the main theme.
@@Dizzifying1 yes, I know. The data mined version is even better imo
@@ltrttlThere's a datamined version?! Where can I find it?
@mohidsufyan8706 all the leaked tracks for ds3 are the channel:Unreleased Game Music. The pontiff one your asking about is called Old King of the Eclipse
@@Dizzifying1which is why I love the convergence mod for giving respect to that original idea.
Dude it always amazes me how you come up with the exact lore of the characters by just listening to the song.
The way I see it, the art team and the soundtrack never lie to you. Characters and writers do.
"This spot marks our grave, but you may rest here too, if you like."
-Lothric, Younger Prince
Yuka Kitamura just amazing orchestral talent. Though I think Alex Roe (who has put out a mini album with Kitamura!!) did a remix that made it even better.
It's so cool that you use the words "resignation" for describing how the theme is playing out. In the lore, the current prince doesn't believe anymore in the linking of the fire, so him resigning from his duty of linker of the fire is very fitting.
Also, the reason why we maybe were left hanging is because at this point is because maybe the prince's ideals might yet come to fruition through the player.
You interpreted the song beautifully, especially the part about the requiem.
Lorian and Lothric were supposed to save the world and continue the cycles, but Lothric decided to not do so and watch the world die. He even says, in case you are defeated "this spot, marks our grave."
Linking the fire is not "saving the world," the flame has been prolonged for too long, and the world is suffering because of it, which is why you see all the old kingdoms destroyed and converging in the last area of the game, we're not sure what happens once the flame goes out, but we do know it will come back again to continue the cycle of light and dark
It's amazing how you can "reverse-engineer" Kitamura's songs so well and tell something about the characters lore even without playing the game!
Definitely one of top 3 tracks in DS 3 for me.
Young prince lothric, named the same as the land, because he was supposed to be the last lord of cinder ever, his power and might would have made him an inmortal legend, but he was born ill and weak, always surrounded by nurses, from that life he learned all kinds of healing spells.
Lorian, older twin, a prince born with blessings, he was always skilled and strong, he killed the last of the demon royalty alone, the fire of said demons imbued his greatsword with a never ending flame, he returned to his home loaded with triumps and exploits, but then he decided to share the curse with his brother, they were so close that it is said their souls merged, but while Lothric got a little better Lorian lost his voice and his legs became numb, when the fire started to fade and the lords of cinder were resurrected by the bell to re-link the fire, Lothic and Lorian refused the call and went to the highest chamber of the castle to watch the fire fade from far, until... the bell also resurrected a vile and foul being, a god killer called the ashen one, when the lords refuse their thrones the ashen one will deliver the corresponding fresh ashes to their seats, because it is ash that seeks embers, and thus the lyrics of the song:
_oh visitor of the castle_
_you who came seeking embers_
_you who came hunting_
_im afraid_
_im afraid oh visitor of the castle_
Quick amazing details about this music, there is no voice in the first part because the first prince is mute, the voices comes in the moment the other prince came into the battle.
Oh shit.
0:57 "There's a lot of tragedy already" A perfect summary of the background of DS3
The way the music builds during the phase transition cutscene and explodes when second phase starts... easily one of the most memorable fights of DS3 for me. It usually gets overlooked because DS3 is so stacked with great bosses, but Twin Princess deserves some recognition.
Yaay, time for DS lore again!
The twin brothers are most likely the children of Gwynevere, the godess(or atleast her illusion) waiting for you in DS1 behind Ornstein and Smough.
Both brothers are the earliest children of Oceiros, the by now consumed king.
He was obsessed with creating "the perfect child" to eternally link the flame. To be more precise, he wanted to create a child with both the powers of dragons and gods alike. While Gwynevere was already of holy decend, Oceiros started researching the draconic, eventually coming by the experiments of Seath the scaleless and his crystal magic.
While his first son, prince Lorian was "normal", besides of being very large and a most skilled fighter, he did not have the god's blood of his mother.
But then prince Lothric was born. Albeit cursed with an initial sickness that made him frail and unable to even walk, he was revered as the perfect child by the royal house.
Besides of holding the holy blood of his mother, he also has pale sking and clawed hands, implying that he was the result of Oceiros' early research of how to infuse infants with the draconic.
Lothric was meant to one day take his thrown as a lord of cinder to bind the flame and was raised as such.
His sickness grew stronger with time and might have killed him eventually, would it not have been for his loving brother to "share" his curse. The noble knight and demon slayer Lorian became crippled by helping his brother bear the curse, turning him mute, weakening him subtancially and paralyzing his lower body completely.
Yet he still stayed by his brothers side and they continued to grow up together, with them now being supposed to assume the throne and link the fire together.
But one of his teachers was sceptical of the linking of the flame, questioning if forcing the world to keep the age of fire going to be the right choice. (A question asked from DS1 to 3 repeatedly).
These ideas, combined with the suffering Lothric and his brother had to live by just to be "perfect tools" to link the fire led to them both refusing the throne and fleeing to the castle we find them in.
As they state, they planned to watch the flame die out from a distance, before the age of dark would naturally occur.
After they fled, their father became mad with the desire to still create a perfect heir.
Beside of the generally intoxicating and maddening teachings of Seath, the added mania from "being king" and "having to continue the age of fire with royal blood" led him into more and more vile and brutal testings to create dragon kin. Many of the dragon amalgamations we can fight, like Gundyr, are most likely failed test subjects that where meant to be infused with draconic power but failed to contain it.
While Oceiros neglected his kingdom and sacrificed more and more people to his research, he turned himself more and more draconic, may it be intentional or a side effect.
And while the kingdom fell into disarray and was invaded by the boreal Valley, Oceiros still held on to having to create a perfect child.
In a last ditch effort, Ocelot was created, a child that only partly made it into the game.
Ocelot was the final child of Oceiros and yet another failure. Even with all his sacrifice, Oceiros, by now a malformed, blind half dragon, he could not create an heir to link the fire.
This is when we find him. In game, he cradles nothing, but the game files tell us that he would have had a newborn child in his arm for the first stage of the fight, believeing him to be his magnum opus. He manically asks the child to show everyone its power, to come out of hiding and show the world that Oceiros finally succeeded to create a dragonborn heir and cleanse the stain of Lothric's desertation.
But as the fight continues and the child does nothing... because it is a child, he ultimately smashes him onto the ground, killing Ocelot. Before we kill him, he understands that all his efforts where to no avail and that the child he created, is not what he tried to achieve. He failed, plunged his kingdom into destruction and failed to achieve his life's duty.
It is the same in game, without the child, but more metaphorical, as he only stops to cradle nothing and goes full apeshit on you, abondoning the idea of "having the child".
All in all, Lothric COULD be seen as kind of a tragic antagonist, as he DID refuse to assume his duty, but lived a life of torment just to appease the royal interest in heirs for the flame to consume.
The question if it was worth for the sake of humanity or if Lothric is right and the fire should die out for the natural age of dark is for the player to choose.
The unresolved ending is interesting. Here's my interpretation...
You pointed out how the tension chord resolving to the home chord gives a sense of resignation to a tragic fate, with the tense chord conveying tragedy and the home chord giving the sense of inevitability and resignation to fate. Well, the fight ends with the player killing the twin princes and thus denying them the tragic fate that they had accepted, hence the home chord not coming at the very end. The fate of the princes changed due to the player, but their tragedy remains nonetheless.
Thanks for another great souls music analysis Davi!
This track is already awesome, but your analysis helps me appreciate it even more. Great job.
Yeah, more than any other track in the ost, this one screams agony to me, specially in the 2nd phase, with the voices starting and stopping and slowing down almost as though they're in so much pain they can't even sing anymore... whoo, goosebumps
Also, the unresolved ending is probably so that the ost track feel closer to the in-game loop that just goes back to the choir entrance at that point
No vocals until second phase, since Lorian is mute... only when his brother joins in do the vocals join
It does sound like a funeral mass... all so very interesting... thank you!
one of my favourite, tracks, fights, and stories in all of soulsborne, it doesn't get nearly as much love as it should
Every time dark souls music surprises me even more. Next one should be slave knigh Gael, that's one of most epic OST I've heard in a videogame
Unfortunately I believe he already listened to it In A livestream so I doubt he'll make A video on it
Your review about the feeling of this song is perfect, you nailed it. The Twin Princes' lore really is melancholic, tragic, and depressing.
Lovely breakdown! Spot on with your recognition of the themes of fate and funerals. The change from double meter to triple when the fight goes from you vs lothric to you vs lothric and lorian, all thee fates intertwined. You made me thing of this wonderful fight on a whole new level!
I don't know what's more impressive: the Dark Souls composers being able to so accurately communicate the lore of their stories through music alone, or Davi's ability to basically deconstruct that same lore purely from the music alone.
Gonna go ahead and say both are equally impressive.
God-Devouring Serpent from Elden Ring would be interesting option to react to.
One of my all time favourite Fromsoft tracks. Its so sad and inevitable. Like you said some inevitable fate. Its beautiful and glorious in a tragic way.
One of my favorite bosses in the Soulsborne-franchise. Such an amazing experience.
Always amazed at how accurately he can describe the bosses just based on music alone
finally, this is one of my favorites
I haven't heard this song in so long and now I'm missing it even more than when it was taken off Spotify 😭😭
I've always thought that the transition into phase two for the princes always sounded almost exactly like the transition we hear with Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower in Bloodborne
Yuka loves doing that transition, it’s the exact same chord progression, awesome for main characters like this
"This place marks are grave, but you may rest here to if you like"
Prince lothric
Those boys are my fav bosses in dark souls 3…and god the fight hurt…the poor boys. Their story makes me cry.
yeah idk about many other boss fights that are this much of a kick to the teeth once you learn their story. (plus they're stylish, wearing your bro as a scarf is in)
@@mynameudste from software loves to make brothers with sad back stories that make you cry
I often like to listen to this song whenever I feel overwhelmed with grief over my brother’s death. It speaks to my sorrow and anger.
you've finally reached the best song in the game
btw I like how you correctly understand the essence of the boss from his music.
This fight makes you feel bad. Until this moment most players think they are fairly justified but here is where you begin to question what your mission.
As the Prince lies dying he says "Mark my words Ashen One, you remain among the accursed." If my character could speak he would have said "I know."
Davi, muito bom ver você com 100k , parabéns ❤🎉 continue com esse incrível trabalho de destrinchar emoções nas musicas
"This spot marks our grave. But you may rest here too, if you like."
This is my favorite fight in all of souls and I think the music plays a big part in it. Probably my favorite OST they’ve ever done, especially in the second phase it’s so good.
I love these breakdowns. They're so interesting and I also just like listening to the music once more!
If you are open to suggestion.

- Slave knight Gael
Both of them are from Dark souls 3 and both of them have great OST.

Wow this is awesome . David explaoing the soul music .The background and dark side. David is so like Dan in his mannerisms.
Sorry Davi.
Wow the deacons of the deep would totally blow your mind
I'm amazed at how you see the picture by just listening to the music
I've always had such high appreciation for FromSoft tracks. But after watching a few of these videos where actual professionals react to them and break them down and explain them, that appreciation is like tenfold now. You realize then that each track has a story to tell and emotions to express, and isn't just put together on a whim. Can't imagine how much time and effort goes into creating these. Amazing stuff, we're truly spoiled.
4am, preparing to go to work, see a new analysis of Dark Souls music by Davi.
What a good way to start a day !
Love your videos mate, and congrats on reaching 100K! Well deserved! 🥳
It's worth noting this song uses the same motif as an unused track for Lothric Castle. So at some point in development, it was intended you'd hear a track as you're exploring the area to approach this boss, and then when you get there you get essentially a sadder and more intense version of the same song.
The background is they were waiting for the ashen one who would rob their souls only for his own purpose. They won’t let him take it, so they fight for their own existence. Of course they were killed and their souls were used to selfish purposes. That’s why this is sad. They were rejecting their own destiny, and at last that destiny reached them. There’s nothing they can do for that.
11:00 about this funeral music i think thats right, because if the player died lothric will say '' you may rest here to if you like''
I love being able to interpret meaning from these pieces. Bits placed there intentionally to inspire certain ideas in the player, whether they realise it or not. And also coming to the wrong conclusions, and questioning why this could be.
Whether intentionally, or just as an artistic choice. The sign may end unresolved because whilst the “end” of the song will never organically be reached by a player, since the track loops, and wouldn’t fade into silence anyway at that moment when it would end anyway- it might come back to the significance as to the reason the song emphasises resignation and tragedy.
Briefly touching on the story of the game, the ultimate fate of the world is in the player’s hands. And whilst the Twin Princes who have an idea of how they’d like the world to play out, they’ve also resigned themselves from their duties as well as playing an active part in the fate of the world. Thus when they inevitably fall, the fate of the world comes back from the bleak hopelessness that is suggested in the themes of the song and the Twin Princes’ philosophy.
The harder to find, true ending of the game requires the player to not follow their duties, the same duty that was demanded of the Princes. If there was no alternate path, and the world was doomed to entropy like the Twin Princes thought, perhaps to prove them right, their song would end in a fitting melancholy way.
This is what souls music does to me.
The lyrics say "castle visitor I'm afraid, I have no power to hunt you . I'm afraid that you'll hunt me"
Amazing video as always. I love this piece. It's so noble and poignant. It's easily one of my favorites of DS3 music, Yuka Kitamura's work, and the entire FromSoft franchise. I love the intertwining strings part. Its unsettling yet beautiful melody makes me feel the complex emotions of the brothers, their love and hate, their bond and curse. Really amazing. What I love the most about Kitamura-san's music is that it beautifully expresses the world-building of the games and the characters, and makes the battles dramatic and effective, while also having a universal appeal that resonates with the souls of many people who don't play the game. Thanks for the video, Davi!
you've reached the great hero of this dying age, and he has given up his power and even the world to spend his final moments with his brother.
That's how i view the tragedy, at least for lorian
Finally. Been waiting for this so long!
Hope you enjoy it!
I've seen that you've requested this like a hundred times😂
I was waiting so much for this one! Love your videos!!
The Younger Prince Lothric was raised from birth with the sole purpose of Linking the Fire to continue the Age of Fire. However he decided that he didn't want that as the world slowly fell apart from being held in stasis by the Age of Fire, and instead bought about the end of days. As the world begins to collapse, previous Lords of Cinder are brought back to Link the Fire again, however they also forsake their fate as sacrificing themselves once was torture enough. Instead the Ashen Ones, Undead who have previously sought to Link the Fire however were too weak and instead were consumed instantly, begin to arise as the world seeks anyone at all who will Link the Fire. Your purpose as the Ashen One is to collect the Cinders of a Lord from the previous Lords (including Lothric) to gain their 'acceptance' that you are worthy to receive the First Flame.
The soundtrack is so tragic because you have come to cast judgement on the Twin Princes and claim the final Cinder of a Lord required. You are their executioner and their fate is sealed. Despite this, whenever they manage to kill you Lothric will say "This spot marks our grave, but you may rest here too, if you like." They have already given in and await the end of days, and only wish that you do so too, perhaps knowing the end of days is a better fate than the alternative.
Always get excited for a soulsborne Davi upload
Damn @DaviVasc this just shows the grand mastery of these games. The fact that you knew basically nothing, and just from the music you NAILED the story - themes yous noticed being the tragedy, the resignation, the fate and the funeral... This couldn't come closer to representing the story of the Twin Princes.
They are descendants of Gwyn. They were chosen to link the first flame as Gwyn did a long time before (fate). They decided that it's for nothing, that the flame must die, and they declined to fulfill their fate (resignation).
They chose to stand face to face with their fate - the player, which is another cool aspect of the game:
Every one of main 4 bosses -lords of cinder- had an NPC counterpart that was summoned to bring back the heir to their throne, with whom they crossed paths before or with whom they were locked by fate.
Yohrm had Siegward of Catarina, an old friend of his,
Aldrich had Anri of Astora, who escaped being sacrificed to him as a child,
Undead Legion had Hawkwood the Deserter, who was a member of the Legion of Pharros but deserted,
And finally, it is speculated that the Player Character was one of the five assasins of Prince Lothric, one of Black Hand.
Just before the fight with Twin Princes, you stand off the remaining three Black Hand assasins, and the last one you find dead way before in the castle.
In a way, Lothric and Lorian are facing their own fate. The (tragedy) of being slain by your own guardian assasin.
Finally it is a funeral, as both Princes decided to die in their throne room, which you - the player- is informed by Lothric right as the fight begins - "this place will mark our grave".
They gave up, decided to die there, by facing their tragedy and declining their fate. You can't tell me the game isn't a masterpiece when a composer can read the entire theme, the entire chunk of story just from the soundtrack.
Just noticed you already covered Laurence's theme. Great video btw.
Have you listened to the Moon Presence's theme yet? It's pure horror combined with the calm and lamenting soulsborne credit song.
O h , d e a r b r o t h e r . . .
Edit: It was left unresolved maybe, because Lothric left the linking of the fire unresolved.
The unresolved ending is where in the game the choir starts again but for the OST they just cut it there, there is also an uncut version.
I like how they use the home cord as a symbole of rezignition and then they are teasing it in a maner that it become the first note of the chorus that follow and in the end of the track it completely disapear (as does there hope and interest for the life and the flame)
Just watched the finale of Attack on Titan and I thought the day can’t get even better just to then see Davi cover one of the best OSTs in gaming and my personal favorite of this game. When it comes to the twin princes: You are right. This is a funeral. The princes have accepted death. Not only for themselves but for the entire world they live in. And the most tragic part about all of this: they decided to cause all of this. It’s their free will.
Edit: I just rewatched the video and ending the piece unresolved after having finished the exact set up earlier in the OST multiple times makes a lot of sense. In the game the princes broke the everlasting cycle of rekindling the flame thus making the world fall apart with them.
There's new AoT?! Just when I canceled my CrunchyRoll sub nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
@@DaviVascyea the finale of the entire show just dropped. It’s amazing.
@@DaviVasc Don't worry, you made the right call.
The finale of AoT was truly amazing. An emotional journey over 10 years.
Does anyone else feel like at 15:37 it can lead directly into Plin Plin Plon?
my favourite track in all soulsborn games
I think the cord is left unresolved at the end because until the death of Lorian and Lothrick the fate of the world is decided, the fire will fade and only dark will remain. When the player kills them the fate of the world is left undecided again, hence leaving the end of the song unresolved.
One of the best parts is this young boss trolls you when you die to him. "This spot marks our grave, you may rest here too, if you like"
Great analysis! I would suggest to look into some lies of p music. The boss themes as well as the records 😃
Davi mentioning how this soundtrack sounds like a 'funeral' where the fate of the Twin Princes from the beginning is already decided, is actually backed up by Lothric's dialogue after they kill us, where he says 'This spot marks our grave. But you may rest here too, if you like.'
I've waited so long for this. I believe that this theme is among FromSoft's very best. The royalty and struggle expressed in this masterpiece perfectly encapsulates the entire story of Dark Souls III, and by extension, captures the feeling that this *IS* the finale of Dark Souls.
Lorian and Lothric essentially gatekeep the Ashen One from fulfilling their calling. By ignoring the destiny they were born and raised for, all for the sake of humanity, the entire story of Dark Souls III begins, countless ashen ones try to rekindle the flame, but the final obstacle refuses to give any ground. Lothric does this for our sake as well, knowing the flame should fade and end the curse. But we, the final Ashen One who claimed the heads of the other Lords of Cinder have come for theirs. It becomes a duel for the sake of humanity. If Lothric wins, the curse ends and humanity is free from the gods, though plunged in darkness, humanity will survive. If we win, we usurp their role as "Lord", and continue the curse for humanity. They don't do this because they have lost their mind, or out of hatred, not even for the sake of survival, it is a duel of ideals, and us, the once-failed nameless ash have been given a chance to take the crown of "Lord" from the true prince, a person who tossed aside the title we once sought.
As such, the duality of the Ashen One and Lothric is astounding, we are opposites in every way, but we do not hold hatred for one another. We both fight for the same thing, just for different reasons. We come from opposite origins, a nameless warrior and an esteemed prince, but we rise to become a Lord while they fall from grace, but they do so willingly while we do so by a desperate mission. They betrayed the world and humanity for the sake of humanity, but we who were betrayed by the world (as we failed to link the flame and reduced to forgotten ash), are given another chance to save the same thing that destroyed us. Neither side is right or wrong, but only the victor decides who is. If Lothric loses, humanity's curse remains and the Age of Fire continues but the light remains. If we lose, no other ashen will be able to claim the cinders of the other Lords and challenge him, but humanity is plunged into darkness but is no longer cursed and bound to eternity by the gods.
Though, as we see with Aldrich and the Fire Keeper, hope still remains even in darkness, and a new light will eventually be born. But the entire future depends on this single duel.
They will fight to their last breath, for the future they envision. Both the Ashen One and Lothric, both worthy of the First Flame, and as such, both "royal' and "noble" in their endeavor to decide the fate of the First Flame, and the world of Dark Souls. As such, this theme isn't just Lothric's, it is ours as well. We are the other's final test.
And that's why it's among my favorite soundtracks in all of FromSoft's works.
The twin princes, lorien and lothric were meant to battle of the soul of cinder and then lothric would have lit the first flame, but because of the scholar that helped raise him, lothric wanted to see the cycle of fire end.
You are very much correct that his destiny has been decided. As lothric tells his brother they are cursed. That curse is to forever fight the endless stream of Ashen warriors trying to return their souls to the kiln of the flame
idk if youve heard it yet or not cause i didnt see a video on it, but if you havent heard it yet, you should definitely react to all phases of the "Scaramouche, the Prodigal" boss fight from genshin. its currently my favourite piece in genshin's OST
All major bosses have connections to the characters you meet along the way all but the twins their connection is you so when you beet them your song is their resolution
I’m so glad you’ve done twin princes!! As crazy as it might sound with all the crazy pieces in ds3 you’ve heard, twin princes actually takes the cake for me for the best track in the game. I feel like it gets slept on a bit. 😂
WE ARE REMAINING AMONG THE ACCURSED WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
Another excellent analysis, the prince's tragic fate is their death which is fated and they wait in their room for it so the connection to a tragic fate and requiem is perfect!!
Hello, I've seen your video listening to touhou music and your analysis flabbergasted me haha, I've never seen anyone analyse music your way, but I'm shocked I didn't find flip arfage from ar tonelico on your channel..
Heya, I just stumbled onto your channel with the help of someone very special in my life and I wanted to see if you could react to some of their favorite music from League of Legends. Specifically the login themes of Mordekaiser, Jhin, and Pyke. Now one of those would be awesome since they all provide new people with identities that are fully unique to each character and there are not two themes that sound the same. Defiantly worth a look in my biased opinion and they all are captivating.
Best of luck reacting.
Amazing video!
Can you listen to "The Owl" from Sekiro? Absolute banger of a song.
100% my fav track from DS3
The theme of resolution is so interesting because, thematically, this boss represents someone who refused to sacrifice themselves, even at the fate of the world. Until the player arrives, practically the grim reaper, here to kill the boss so that the cycle may continue.
The lack of resolution at the end may have something to do with the lore of the Twin Princes. Basically, Prince Lothric was supposed to be the one person chosen to "save the world" or renew the age of fire - basically he was supposed to do what the main character of Dark Souls 1 does at the end of the first game. But Lothric saw how there had been many prior chosen ones who had sacrificed so much to renew the world again and again, only for their efforst to eventually be in vain as the entire cycle would always start anew. So in the end, Prince Lothric, the Chosen One that is supposed to fix everything, choose an ending and resolve all the world's problem instead gives up, which leads to the events of the game.
In short: Lothric's entire lore is about the idea that there is supposed to be a specific resolution to the ongoing crisis - but because of the Twin Princes, this resolution cannot occur.
Happy to see you listen to more DS3 ost !
Hoping you hear Pontiff Sulyvahn at some point, it's my fave from DS3, Twin Princes is a close second.
Amazing analysis, Twin princes' story is quite tragic indeed: Lothric was conceived specifically to be sacrified into the Fire and keeping the age of Fire alive. Even in death, even denying the Flame, they couldn't find peace, because it was already decided that, if Lords of Ember would refuse to keep the Flame on again, the Ashen One would have hunt them down to become fuel 😢
Imagine being hired as a Dark Souls boss by Miyazaki and then he hands you a requiem for your soundtrack. Must feel riveting.
Hardspace Shipbreaker has a nice, relaxed sound track. I don't know if it's "deep" enough for an analysis here, but you might want to listen just 'cause it's nice.
If it weren't for the pieces of the DLCs, this would have easily been my favourite composition of the entirety of DS3. Damn you, Gael, why did you have to be such an explosive masterpiece of a fight
There is one emotion I’d use to describe the Princes it’s Melancholy resignation.
Next: Oceiros the Consumed King
This spot mark our graves... But you can rest here if you want... That's what i remember more about the song 😂
Gz on 100k!
I love the lore behind the twin princes and their characters are so cool the music is incredible and the fight is a lot of fun. Dragonslayer Armour is really where it’s at tho. What an ost that is
