Her dress was a gorgeous hanbok, traditional Korean clothing and this song was written by a man whose family was torn between the North and the South and longed for them to be reunited. This is a very emotional song for Koreans.
*Arirang* is the most beloved Korean folk song. It’s believed to be first sung over 600 years ago and passed down from generation to generation. No one knows the exact meaning of Arirang but it embodies the spirit of the people of Korea for centuries (first sung 600 years ago). Arirang represents the suffering and tribulation (Arirang 'Hill') overcome as people and the nation. If we’re together as one holding hands, we can make it over the hill. *Arirang Alone* is a modern adaptation (released in 1990) of the original song written in the hope of reunification of Koreas. It’s a song of hope and peace. It tells a hopeful fantasy of the Island of Dokdo floating in the East Sea all alone singing Arirang. If Dokdo sang Arirang, alone in the Eat Sea, would North and South reunite? Dokdo is islets centrally located between Mount Baekdu (in the northern border of North Korea) and Mount Halla (on Jeju Island, South Korea). Let’s ride a boat together from Baekdu and Halla. When we dock our boats at Dokdo, we’ll witness new dawn together. The songwriter’s parents had to leave two sons and a daughter in North Korea during the Korean war. His father’s dying wish to him was “when Korea reunites, go find your older brothers and sister and tell them that their parents did not abandon them”.
These are the two world class singers, Dimash & So Hyang that keeps lingering in my mind wherever I go. Please react to So Hyang “Breathe” & “where are you”.
Big shout out to Sue Sun on violin, and glad you pointed out her contribution. These two women are gorgeous onstage, and the song was spectacular. The last 2 lines always bring tears to my eyes.
This stage of "Arirang Alone" by Sohyang is a prime example on how music can transcend the barriers of language, culture or nationality. It speaks so loudly when one can become so mesmerized and enchanted by Sohyang's performance here without understanding a word of it. Your reaction demonstrated this point so keenly. Sohyang is a whole package without a snippet of doubt. Thanks for the great reaction.
Finally you watched Arirang !!! Wow I really liked that you were so into it you could not pause it much to talk haha. I am glad I subscribed to see that you reacted to this ! Thank you for the reaction, have a great week both of you Asia and BJ!
This song is estimated to be 600 years old. It is used as the national anthem for both Koreas, when they present themselves as one country. Sohyang is dressed in traditional Hanbok to emphasize Korean cultural traditions.
Watching y’all videos again. All of them for the Queen Sohyang. Hoping you continue the journey of her flexibility with jazz, rock, & rap. And even more Whitney, Celine, and Alicia Keys covers. I know it’s tough with the copyright strikes but it seems there’s lot of ways around it.
While her "epic" performances like this one are incredibly impressive. I find her stripped-down, busking appearances on 'Begin Again: Korea' to be even more emotionally impactful. From English covers of 'I Will Always Love You' and 'If I Ain't Got You' to Korean songs 'Stay' and 'Love Poem'. Her ability to sing so beautifully and delicately melts my soul.
Another gorgeous reaction to SoHyang!! She was absolutely on fire!! and there is more SoHyang' singing you would like to.. Please, check out her song "King of masked singer" series.. you won't be disappointed!!
Unfortunately I can’t watch this video yet because I’m cooking up here in Philly...white wine garlic shrimp with capellini if y’all are hungry. Just wanted to take the time to say you guys are a beautiful couple and beautiful people. I’m just an old Italian guy and I’m disabled so I don’t get out much but y’all make me feel like I got company at my house. So a big Philly Italian thank you for the vids. Prayers for continued success. God Bless you both! ✌️

Ex-Amor below suggested 4 performances.; among them I suggest the following because they are in different genres: "Misty" and "Mona Lisa " from the Masked Singer (rock song!). Be aware that KBS performances are often blocked and people have gotten copyright strikes. I also recommend "You Raise Me Up" (Josh Groban). Shane Filan (one of the lead singers of the boy band Westlife that performs this song) is in the audience and gives her a standing ovation.
Adding the Mariah-Carey-style runs extremely sparingly with an overall more controlled and emotionally real Lara Fabian expression, and a stage presence like a metal queen, pretty much makes this her best performance. The deep sincerity of the song and the pain of North Korea trapped by no fault of its own people, all come through here.

love your channel guys, can you react to mamamoo new song "where are you now" vocals are masterpiece not sure fo youve done this korean girl group known as vocal queens
I believe that in order to get a better idea of what this song is about, it is necessary to listen to the versions that are probably closer to the probable original. I think the North Korean version - except for the last stanza that has apparently been added to promote propagandistic aims - is truer to the original. Based on my own independent study of Korean language and history its vocabulary is largely based on Hebrew, Akkadian, and Geez, a language that has a similar relationship to Tigrinya (a northern Ethiopian language) as Latin does to Italian. All of these languages are classified as Hamito-Semitic or Afro-Asiatic languages, although it seems many Koreans probably don't have enough respect for Africa to consider the evidence that would support the belief Korean is one of these Hamito-Semitic languages. Recently, there has been some research to show that Korean has many similarities to "Sumerian" which is closely linked to Akkadian. I believe this song is probably much much older than the 600+ years that has been mentioned, and its author has apparently inserted Hebrew words in a coded way to remind Koreans of their spiritual roots. If you look at a translation of the North Korean version, it becomes more obvious. It seems that this Korean folk song has concatenated many Hebraic words in order to preserve a Messianic message for future generations. I believe the original lyrics of the chorus were Ariel, Ariel, Ari, Ariel - or alternatively Avraham, Avraham, Ari Ariel. Ari means "lion" in Hebrew, and Ariel is the ancient name for Tsiyyon ("Zion"), which is the holy mountain in the Bible, and one that is important in Biblical prophecy. The fact that Ariel, which apparently later morphed to "Arirang", was originally intended as the destination appears likely, because some versions use the preposition meaning "to" rather than "over" after the phrase "Arirang hill" (Korean 아리람 고개로), so this would mean that Arirang hill is not just an obstacle to overcome on the way, but rather the final destination. The allusions to rest appear to be references to the sabbaths that must be observed on the way there, since it is several thousand miles from Korea to the holy mountain. In the version sung in North Korea, there is a reference to a few Biblical narratives. One phrase says 10 "ri" (which would be equivalent to about 4 km, since almost 400 meters is equivalent to one "ri" - but in Korean, "ri" also refers to an administrative district such as a village) would not be reached before there would be a disabling foot ailment. (Apparently 1 "ri" is equivalent to 700-1000 paces, depending on whether one is carrying a load or whether one is an adult or child.) This is apparently very rich in symbolism of various kinds. I believe there are a few important Biblical themes being symbolised here. First is the prophecy found in Genesis 3 that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent's head while the latter bites the former's heel. Most Biblical scholars acknowledge that this is a prophecy about the Messiah (who as offspring conceived within a virgin is her seed) and most Christians believe the reference to the serpent's biting the Messiah's heel is a reference to the crucifixion. If one reads Matthew 10, where Yeshua commissions his 12 apostles to evangelise the 10 houses of Israel, who at this point were scattered around the world, it becomes clear why this song is saying that not all 10 districts would be reached before the foot injury occurs. A secondary referent of the symbolism seems to be Baal-Peor, which is represented by the Korean word "Baal-byeong"; although "byeong" means ailment or disease, I believe it came to mean this as it was borrowed from this name of a place where there was an altar set up for Baal; and in fact, the people who were sexually seduced into into idolatrous worship of Baal at Peor were struck with plagues. It was also the fact that Israel never managed to rid herself of Baal worship that became the reason YHVH allowed her to be conquered by her enemies and thereby scattered among the nations. The word "shibri" actually is the masculine form of the number "seven" in Hebrew; so the fact that a Hebrew word like that appears in a Korean folk song in such a context seems significant. Also the word "radah" means "enlarge" or expand, so the combination of "ri" and "do" appearing in juxtaposed fashion appears significant as well. The next concatenated Hebrew words seem to be the Hebrew word "chomot", which means "wall"; "mot", which means "established" (in Ge'ez, "mot" means "death", probably because sacrifice was a way of establishing or ratifying covenants); "azab", which means to "restore" or "repair"; and "aseh", which means "make" or "do". In essence, the song seems to suggest that the Messiah was ordained to die as a propitiatory death for the sins of the children of Israel before reaching the 10 lost houses of Israel (and Yeshua died after 4000 thousand years of human history (of which 6000 is ordained before the return of the Messiah, based on James Ussher's analysis); and a double meaning is that before 7000 thousand years are reached, we will be restored and be able to worship again at Tsiyyon. Interestingly, there if you read the conclusion of Kant's famous work "Critique of Practical Reason", it makes reference to the same glorious promise that this Korean song makes reference to. According to Kant: "Two things fill the mind with ever new and increasing wonder [Bewunderung] and reverence, the more often and more steadily one reflects on them: the starry heavens above me and the moral law within me. I do not need to search for them and merely conjecture them as though they were veiled in obscurity or in the transcendent region beyond my horizon; I see them before me and connect them immediately with the consciousness of my existence” (Critique of Practical Reason, 5: 161)." According to the versions of Arirang that were probably earliest, "As the heavens are replete with many stars, in my heart are many dreams". I believe both are referring to the promise made to Abraham: "“By Myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand, which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies. And in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.” (Genesis 22:16-18).
Here is the passage from Matthew 10: "These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them, saying, “Do not go on a road to Gentiles, and do not enter a city of Samaritans; but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as you go, [g]preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with leprosy, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give. Do not acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts, or a bag for your journey, or even two tunics, or sandals, or a staff; for the worker is deserving of his support. And whatever city or village you enter, inquire who is worthy in it, and stay at his house until you leave that city. As you enter the house, give it your [n]greeting. If the house is worthy, see that your blessing of peace comes upon it. But if it is not worthy, take back your blessing of peace. And whoever does not receive you nor listen to your words, as you leave that house or city, shake the dust off your feet. Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment, than for that city. “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be as wary as serpents, and as innocent as doves. But be on guard against people, for they will hand you over to the courts and flog you in their synagogues; and you will even be brought before governors and kings on My account, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given you in that hour. For it is not you who are speaking, but it is the Spirit of your Father who is speaking in you. “Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. And you will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved. “But whenever they persecute you in [r]one city, flee to the next; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes." (Matthew 10: 5-23 NASB).

Here is the passage from Matthew 10:
"These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them, saying, “Do not go on a road to Gentiles, and do not enter a city of Samaritans; but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
