    Thanks a million, Man! I just did this job. You were very bright to even mention the millimeter size sockets needed. I checked to see if I had all the sockets before beginning.Took me about 1 hour. By the way, I did not have magnitic sockets. A trick I have always used in the past, is to push a wad of PVC tape into the socket with a pocket screw driver. This holds
    the hex nut, so it does not fall down in to the door someplace! Very bad. Thanks again!

    very useful instructions, thank you. 2003 Explorer, driver side mirror -- A few things that greatly complicated the repair for me: (1) the cable cartridge attached to the mirror adjustment button would not come off, so I had to work with the door panel pushed to the side still attached in the front through a rather short stretch of cable - very annoying, (2) the 3 bolts that hold the mirror in place are sunk rather deeply into the door frame. The holes are small enough that you can't grab the bolts with your fingers, so when they come off at the very end, unless you're careful (I wasn't) they'll drop right to the bottom of the door - happy fishing!, (3) the panel that contains the mirror control buttons snaps in place in the front, but has a plastic ledge on the back that keeps it in place; you won't see it because it sits underneath the panel. Pull the panel off in the front and then slide it forward so you don't break it, like I did.

      I had the same problem with the wiring harness not coming out;
      looked like maybe you could dismantle the whole thing, but I just suspended the panel still attached - you might wanna tie or gaffa to stop it falling and pulling on the wiring.
      This vid and another I watched are both for passenger side - lazy buggers!
      Especially as driver's side is the most likely to be clipped when parked.
      The 3 nuts are something I was very careful with.
      I found that I could get a finger through one of the other holes to keep the nut in place in the socket, then slightly tilt it up as I removed them together.
      Handle surround is best levered out from the door-hinge end;
      both it and the control panel above it need to go forward because they're clipped toward the back (door-latch end) as mentioned by OP.
      Main door panel needs zero tools to remove;
      just bump upwards on the bottom of it.
      I found a lot the door covering inside was unglued - gaffa tape!
      And the interior cover over the mirror bolts was gone - I fashioned a makeshift one by removing the old foam seal from the outside of the mirror assembly and cutting it to shape,
      then gaffa tape to seal and cover holes.
      (But be sure to leave top hole open - the door panel clips in there!)
      Only disappointment: Turns out my Explorer has no puddle-light function. 😞

    Wow, that looks super easy to get off. 🙂👍
    Very pleased to see that the panel just slots in, without a bunch of pine-tree clips or similar to fiddle with and damage.
    Also glad I watched this first, otherwise I probably would've been trying to yank it straight out!
    Finally something easy to access & fix on my Explorer. 😄

    2005 Ford Explorer. Had it off and replaced in 18 minutes. The vid skipped a part but I didn’t need to take the speakers off at all. It was basically plug and play after everything was off. Thanks for the vid.

    Minor correction. On my 2002 Explorer the bolts at the bottom and behind the power window switch were too small for a 6mm socket and too large for a 5mm socket. A 7/32" socket was just right.

    I just replaced the drivers side mirror on a 2004 Explorer Eddie Bauer. The instructions were perfect - I had three more wire sets to deal with, but no problems. Thank you very much!!!

    Great starter video but I wanted to point out a few differences. I have a 2005 Ford Sporttrac and the video mirrored up to removing the panel. The difference in my vehicle and the videos was my mirror was powered. This meant that I had to remove the speaker so that I could disconnect the motor power/control. Once done, I could remove the mirror and replace with the new mirror.

    My bolts (2003) are 7/32 and 11mm. Driver's side is just as easy - just mind the auto-mirror adjuster. Beauty 1-2-3 video, tho! I referred to it for both sides of the vehicle. PS your door panel liners look like Rolls Royce liners compared to mine! Total hack jobs. Oh well. She still runs great!!

    Great video. 2005 Explorer and the only difference was 7mm screws at bottom of door panel and they didn't fully tighten. Start to finish 18 min.

    Stuff a cloth in the door panel incase one of the bolts fall it would be caught by cloth and just lay there so you can retrieve it.
