There once was a story about good and evil that this 7 year old loved. It started with a space opera and it started a movement into space knights, lightsabers and comics. Then the owner not knowing what he was doing allowed writers to expand the universe but the owner got jealous because the expansion was so much better then the original stories. He became envious and decided to sell out to a company that had no understanding of the cult that was created. They decided to make it their own but don't understand that the magic can't be created by making movies. It was the lifeforce of generations of kids who fell in love with the original story and not the effects. They decided to change the story but don't get why the cult won't let go of the original story that they fell in love with. The gap grows because when they touch a heart string it is a success. When they give even a tiny part of the original it boooms. They decide to throw away 40 years of loyalty for an attempt to see if the new generations have the same love but the kids(most) don't because they didn't live the life. They didn't dream of being a skywalker. They can't afford to by the merch. Their parents didn't take them to watch the movies 5 times each. I wish Disney all the luck in the universe on the path they have chosen. I will keep my EU books and that is the SW I will remember. We part as friends. This fan gets the magic.

I'm on the fence with this. I want a backstory with Vader in it on how Vader became so feared in the galaxy, problem is Disney wont allow the story to go dark even though the 20 years from Revenge of the Sith to New Hope the galaxy was very dark and violent. Like many Sci-fi fans, my avenue to Sci-fi was Star Trek, but with Star Wars, my imagination was expanded. Besides wanting to be a Jedi Knight for the next few years, I wanted to be an astronaut and a medical professional. Not just any astronaut, but the first African Indigenous American Astronaut from Oklahoma with an MD. I looked up to Uhura and Bones and felt like Spook due to my heritage. Then came Luke, a simple farm boy who had aspirations that were out of this world. I no longer felt alone; there was a hero who felt just like me. Then I saw for the first time a female hero who wasn't a damsel in distress and a better soldier than her male "rescuers." In the next chapter, a "blackman-in-charge" and not comedy relief nor killed off in the movie's first five minutes. But the part of A New Hope that always gave me pause was the discrimination of the droids in the cantina. Blatant discrimination, even in a galaxy far, far, away?! That's what the current asshats at Disney have forgotten. They have forgotten how to teach and instead preach. Ironically, they have alienated the fans who supported equality with tired tropes, and while insulting the audience's intelligence. John Boyega was right when he said, he was lied to, and so were we.
