- I needed to be in Vienna for a Brompton bicycle race, I decided to fly in/out of Munich & check out the BMW WELT & BMW Museum. I was also lucky enough to borrow a German press M240i and drive that through Germany and Austria.
It was great spending some more quality time in the M240i, I discovered it really does make for a great long distance cruiser & couldn't think of many cars (regardless of cost) that could have done it better...

Had my m240i 6 months now and agree with all of your points, fantastic all round and flexible motor. Done Nearly 4K and car feel the motor starting to loosen a little, what an engine it is too. The only thing I would disagree with is adaptive suspension. I have fitted Birds B2 suspension to mine and it absolutely transforms the car, far FAR superior to either the standard passive or adaptive especially at high speed, it is fantastic. Just smothers and irons out bumpy pot hole ridden roads rather than fidgeting about on them. Quaife LSD next :-)

I went to this museum in February. It is a piece of art.
I like the spreading between the the low fuel consumption on the Autobahn and the high fun factor driving through the Alps. I like this car very much. Great video, so much nice memories from my tours this year. Can't wait to take my car back to the alps next year. Thanks :)

Your best video Joe by far. My mate and I were discussing the other day how we wish the UK got the alcantara seats, they look really nice. There is a lot of time in between your releasing your videos but when they are this good it is well worth it. Thanks for sharing.

Just ordered an M240i myself. Of course with the manual six speed. Why order anything else if you are into this type of car. Had an 135is for 4 years. Amazing car, just looked funny.

Great review, very thorough and honest feedback.
I'm going to upgrade my 2018 mx5 in August to a m240i. This video was helpful in making my mind up. Scary and fun in some parts with the car on the limit lol n you in the slow lane, only possible in Germany lol. This car offers near m type performance with also being able to handle the daily drive to work / school to drop my daughter off and not drive you mad. At the weekend we have the wife's X1, will be good to be a all bmw family again.

great vid, can see how the editing is getting smarter over time...... Had my 140 for 3 weeks now and coming up to 1k miles. Still got a lot to explore performance wise, foot flat it flies, but i still not done much in manual mode on clear lanes. Comparing to an M2 is something i cant really do but - my wife is fine with a 140 hapy driving it at 50% max throttle in comfort mode, but she would hate an M2, so for me its a perfect balance. 36mpg going to work vs my 320d where i get 48mpg. Boot is way bigger than i remembered too - mountain bike fits in easy
Cheers man! Yeah they do "normal" driving so well, not intimidating at all, then with a prod of your right foot it becomes an animal! I'm a mountain biker too mate, its all about the hatch for me :-)
Great vid, those roads look epic. I've got the 225d (same blue) in the uk, it has those seats. I didn't want to be sliding around on leather, getting high mileage means leather would be worn too. Would have preferred petrol, but much more money, even for the 228i.
I've got the standard msport 18s, do look a bit small .But not sure I would want to sacrifice ride and tyre cost, just for cosmetics. Something I will look into when tyres need replacing. I'm sure I've seen other 2 series (not m2) with 19s and the difference in gap between top and side looks even worse.

At 18.25 you mention a Chris Harris video that explains the benefits of adaptive suspension - I can't find it! Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thoroughly enjoyed this video Joe so much so that I feel this would be a much nicer option for me rather then the 140i option that I was looking at, I am currently living in Germany but with a RHD one series looking to get back to the UK to get myself a really nice M2401 with adaptive suspension as you recommended and bring it back to Germany. Just ordered it, in last moment went from alcantara to the leather, listening to you not sure if that was the best decision. But that engine!
The leather is fine a makes the car look/feel more premium, I was just really impressed with the added grip/support from the cloth seats
I currently drive a 2014 428i convertible. My biggest problem is that I like to be aggressive and that doesn't do me any favors when it comes to gas mileage. I miss my '03 M3 because it wasn't much effort to get up to speed.
This is one of my favorite cars that I have driven and reviewed so far. It goes fast, and effortlessly. Perfect daily driver!

I agree on your comments regarding the engine over the M135i, I had one and upgraded to a 340i Touring as I needed more space, and it just lacks a bit of drama and noise when really pushing on in the last part of the rev range, but makes up for it with low down torque and economy. its no slower than the M135i, but the gearbox up shifts quicker, leaving you relying on that greater torque and giving you better economy. loved my M135i, but the 340i Touring is better, the ultimate Q-car in my eyes. Great reviews by the way

Joe Achilles gonna wait till the winter is over and look at a JB4, and near to 380-400bhp, seems as they don't make the M3 Touring!
be good to run a 340i and the M140/240i together and see what differences there are, especially before and after a JB4

I actually like these cloth/Alcantara seats more as well. I found them more comfy and they don't get boiling hot here in Australian summers (this was on a 125i M Sport). Standard here in Aus too.

Can't wait to get mine and turn the wick up with a jb4. Burger motorsports are Claiming 390 wheel HP just for a stage 1. M4 power. Unreal bargain for the money Joe. Great for a work tool as a second car.

BTW Did you drive the manual M2 before picking the DCT? Or did you pick the DCT
because you already had a manual M135i?
I have only driven the DCT M2 so far and obviously it's astonishing and it would be
awesome on the track(gotta go faster than my dad in his f30 335d).
But will I miss having a manual? If your M135i would be auto would you then
opt for the manual in your M2? I would have to sell my manual M3e46 and replace it
with the M2, and my 2nd car is an auto.

How does the Alcantara compare to your leather seats? You say they are more supportive, however, it didn't quite feel like it to me at the dealership. Alcantara is standard on the M140i here, but I upgraded to Black Leather and Blue stitching.
I understand it's a matter of preference, however, I believe the leather seats are better, and probably more durable. thoughts?
Good stuff Joe, if you don't have adaptive suspension (like me) you can configure sport mode not to have the heavy steering, that's how I have mine, like you say it's naff!

Definitely recommend the adaptive suspension over the OEM m suspension...I made that mistake.

Hey Joe. I recently found your videos on youtube as I'm looking to get my first new car (been driving used ones for a few years now). I'm pretty interested in the BMWs, but everyone talking about the rough ride on the M2 leaves me a bit undecisive. If you had to pick one to live with every day as your only car, would you still take the M2 over the M240i?
Joe great video yet again, but I picked up my m235i in July. Now in November and it just covered 1900miles I've had 41.2mpg in mine. Exceptional mpg. I posted that on my instergram aswell, as proof.

Question, this is not the xdrive, how does it feel driving on the snow? Is it worth to get the xdrive model, if you live in a country that snow is probable during winter season?

Given the known performance/value for money ratio, possibly makes it the best all round coupe on the market Joe - surely at a 65/70mph cruise you'd have hit near diesel 50mpg economy too? New territory really.

totally agree with your comments on the interior. in the UK the cloth or standard in the non M performance series 2 and 1 cars.
crazy to think it's not a n option on the more powerful cars
I just wish they had a cover for the cup holders, in my 4 series there is a nice removable lid for the 2 cup holders which makes it look very finished inside. That's my only dislike with the interior of the 1 & 2 series.
@Joe Achilles - Watched the video for the first time .. did you say this car was giving you 42 miles a gallon ??? I was contemplating between M2 and M240/235 ... now i think i will go for the M240/235.... in US you cannot drive above 80 miles anyhow .. i am not planning to take it to track anyhow.

That was near Schladming in Austria, I got up at the crack of Dawn to climb that mountain for this video, unfortunately the summer tyres prevented me from getting to the top and I actually got stuck and had to be pulled out of a small ditch, such a shame as the scenery was unreal! I'm swinging towards the M140i at the moment as I think I very slightly prefer how it looks and considering its a few grand cheaper than an identically spec'd 2 series it seems an even better deal.

Also did you drive the m240 back from Germany and finally can you order a non leather interior as that's the only part I'm not keen on - thanks
